  1. It's funny, because I share your opinion that CD's Iris is very different, yet, in that scene, wearing a fluffy pink dress, and referring to Mac as "Daddy", it is easy to see them as the same character. It made me think that CD's Iris become more different from the original over time as writer's felt the need to make her a more contemporary figure. I tend to focus on the obvious disparities, the accent, the height, and the age, but there are also some overlapping styles of acting and writing that make them seem more alike than I remembered. I was also reflecting on how masterful it was to have the Jason Frame murder reach a denouement during the anniversary party. There's am exciting momentum from Felicia's birthday to the anniversary. Reading the synopsis reminded me that Nicole was wearing the earrings that Derek said he saw on the killer. They were Vicky's earrings, which was a red herring, that Nicole had borrowed both for Felicia's party and later for the Cory Anniversary. Others have remarked that there was also some foreshadowing of Nicole's guilt in the weeks leading up to the party. But, I am always a fan of a writer who can interweave the plots so that there is hardly a moment to breath between events.
  2. Alex had to have been Iris's shortest marriage. So, he may have been her favorite by default because he adored her, never did anything to disappoint her, and he fathered Dennis. I would say Elliott was her least favorite, but I never forgave him for slapping Iris on Texas when he found out that he didn't sire Dennis. However, it would have been fun to see him at the party with Alice. Brian would have screamed if Iris had compared him to Mac, (as she did with Robert in this scene), given how much he wanted Iris to find her independence. I also doubt he would have ever sympathized with Iris's scheme to takeover Cory Publishing. So, Robert makes sense by default, especially given his own complex relationship with his father and their family business. And perhaps he mellowed toward Iris over time, especially in comparison to Olivia.
  3. I've often wondered about the rationale of pairing Dukes of Hazard with Dallas/Falcon Crest and Fall Guy with Dynasty? I don't think they were produced by the same company and it wasn't as if the 8pm show was the established hit. I recall my family being avid Dallas viewers on Friday nights, but we never watched Dukes (as kids we were forced to slug through MacNeil/Lehrer on PBS before we got to the good stuff). And, to this day I don't think I've ever watched an episode of Fall Guy or Matt Houston (which someone will remind me if it took its place, or ran before The Colby's) by choice. Maybe it was a "one for the guys, one for the gals" situation, but programming an evening seemed like there was more audience research involved, and I wonder how they sold advertisers on the diversity of those fans.
  4. I always associate Robert with Lenore, it was relatively short, but I liked that pairing
  5. I appreciated the visual style and the music of AW's ER opening and JFP's later work on GH. However, it felt crow-barred in because the image didn't match many of the characters. Suddenly, there was no diversity in the costume style. Donna, Felicia, and Rachel were all wearing shapeless Donna Karan and Armani looks. Fashion of the period was a dynamic mix of the Grey-age Japanese influence and Versace's loud mix of color and print. I doubt that Felicia Gallant would go from feathers and beads to long beige pantsuits. So, it just homogenized the look of the show in order to seem like a contemporary drama, but it missed the fun of giving each character their own twist on the times. Worse, for me, is that JFP seemed to ignore the diversity of class in Bay City, and later in Port Charles. Suddenly everyone seemed to exist with middle class standards and values. There were no young women seeking status through wealth, everyone was only interested in career advancement. Victoria Hudson and Brenda Barrett went from spoiled brats to business women without any period of adjustment. They no longer wished to vacation in Europe, now they wanted to sign contracts. It just didn't fit with the character's history to have Donna manage a media company and Felicia run a bookstore. It felt very 90s (in retrospect) to ignore income and race, and just show an integrated cast where nobody had to deal with cultural issues. Hiring Black and Latino actors may have seemed like progress, but not acknowledging their diversity was a JFP hallmark in ignoring the depth of that time in history. She brought on Ricky Martin and Joseph C. Phillips, and never gave them a story about their minority statue, as if the casting was enough.
  6. Aww, that makes me like Robert even more. Although he always had a sadistic attraction to domineering women, I appreciate that Robert didn't bend to social pressure, and was willing to see Iris's side of the story.
  7. You've covered Julia, Augusta, and Gina so: Eden - instantly no - she's got that psychic connection to Cruz and he would rescue her within a day, no cell phone needed Kelly - she's already freed herself from an old western town, and she avoided ever being captured by Flame, so she's out Laken - the Lockridge's never had that kind of liquidity to come up with a reasonable ransom Santana - too high maintenance and I don't have access to pharmaceuticals Brandon - he's already been kidnapped many times before and he's a willy little bastard Minx - she'll kill your pet for an appetizer and she's has a potion of youth, so she's got nothing to loose Sophia - would disguise herself as a man and escape due to her knowledge of all of the underground tunnels in Santa Barbara Thus, I agree it's got to be Ted - my only concern is that it would take weeks before anyone realized he was missing...
  8. lmt5nMET.mp4 Does anyone recall the context of this scene? I know Robert returned for the Cory Anniversary party in 1989, but what did he do for Iris to cause this reaction? Carmen Duncan is really captivating in this scene (even in that ridiculous dress). And 34 years later Robert Delaney's still got "it" in that white dinner jacket.
  9. I still wonder if Victoria (as well as Summer and Kyle) know the story of their very complicated conception?
  10. @Vee You've really made me think differently about the Trina and Spencer relationship based on your impassioned writing. I will admit to not always being sensitive to issues regarding race in daytime, so I had been thinking of the obstacles in Trina and Spencer's relationship as just being like any other young couple on soaps that are kept apart in order to create a longing for them to be together. Like the old Agnes Nixon quote, "make them laugh, make them cry, make them wait." But, reading your observations made me think about how Trina's sexuality is portrayed differently than Joss or Esme's. Her virginity is neither an indication of her innocence or a tool used to seduce men. Joss is using her sexuality to express her maturity, and Esme is using hers to control the men in her life. But, Trina's romantic desires are ill defined, and I can't help but think that is because the character is a woman of color. So, thanks for opening my mind to new possibilities, which is really the best gift that we can give each other as we share our opinions about this genre.
  11. AMC For years, Adam kept Stuart locked up in the West Wing of the Chandler mansion. When Erica discovered him, Adam's secret was out. Stuart began as an evil entity. Erica was living with Adam, and occasionally a "bad" Adam would appear and try to hurt her. As we found out later, it was really Stuart, who was being kept hidden. Joanna, the housekeeper, had convinced Stuart that Erica was evil and had to be stopped. Of course, he was never really mean, just misled. Rebecca The second Mrs. de Winter (Joan Fontaine) is somewhat overwhelmed however when, after their honeymoon, they return to his vast estate, Manderley. She not only has to deal with a huge house and numerous servants, but also with the dour and domineering housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers (Dame Judith Anderson). I've always thought it was common knowledge how often AMC stories and characters were inspired by classic films, but as Voltaire said, "common sense is not so common anymore." I guess the same is true for common courtesy and respect.
  12. While my comment about Victor's vasectomy was meant in jest, (and I am certain to be corrected), I always thought Nikki wasn't certain that Victoria was Victor's because she knew that he had the surgery. Alison knew that Victor and Nikki had a liaison before her wedding to Kevin (not Michael's brother), but it wasn't until Victoria was kidnapped that the truth came out. BTW, I wonder if Victoria is aware of all of the drama surrounding her conception?
  13. Agreed, the Loire Valley and the San Fernando Valley have different accents
  14. Soap justice never makes sense. If Nikolas can "pull some strings" to get a judge to assign Martin as Esme's lawyer (then offer to double his fee for a pro-bono case - isn't 2x0 still 0?) - why would he worry about Dante and the police investigating him for kidnapping Esme? I mean if he has the judge in his pocket, why do the police matter? And if Victor can spring Spencer from jail on a whim, aren't all Cassadines above the law and free from any consequence? Where are the stakes in this story?
  15. At least Rachel is written as the type of unappealing child one would expect after her upbringing. It is a credit to John that he humors her as much as he does, and it makes Sami's attitude toward her step-father even less reasonable, considering how kind he can be to bratty little girls.
  16. This has always been my issue with the way the character is written. I admit to being an education snob, and I guess a guy who went to a school like La Rosey could be into video games and not graduate from college, but if I were Victor then I would constantly be complaining about wasting $132,000.00 in annual tuition on this schlub. Half of Genoa City went to school in Europe, but none of them speak French, drink espresso, or share a lack of knowledge of pop culture that occurred while they were out of the country. On a side note, it is always the oddest piece of Y&R trivia that Nikki and Victor have kids named Nicholas and Victoria, but neither was named for their parents. Just within the past few years I learned that Victoria was actually named for Kevin's (Nikki's first husband, not Michael's brother) maternal grandmother and his overbearing mother Alison insisted on the name. That was back when Nikki thought that Kevin was the biological father and before Victor's vasectomy was magically reversed; resulting in three more kids.
  17. Brady already told Kristen that he's responsible for Rachel's kidnapping? The pacing of this show is wacko
  18. First, I really sympathize with actors, imagine only being secure in your job for three months at a time, it would make it impossible to plan financially, let alone anticipate when you should audition for other work. That being said, Zach posted today on Insta that he is appearing on one of the CBS procedurals tonight (not a fan, so I have no idea which one - CSI/FBI/Mia/NYC?) I would be fascinated to know from someone with experience in the field, what is the long term financial gain of a guest appearance on a single prime-time network episode (with residuals) versus a 13 week soap contract? Because last night on TikTok I watched a man open his residual checks and it totaled over $1,100.00 for six episodes in the past five years which must be close to a week's salary on a soap (considering the average annual daytime salary is 56K, according to SAG/AFTRA). https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/heres-how-much-daytime-soap-stars-really-make-its-not-as-much-as-you-think.html/ That number seems very low when you consider the average rental in LA is $2700
  19. I'll summarize. Jen cheated with a man four years ago, his wife found out and sent photos to Coach Shah, Jen then drove to another state where the wife lived and knocked on her door at 2:30 in the morning, the next day the wife got a restraining order against Jen which expired after six months. Now, four years later, that woman has gone to the press to try to get her 15 minutes of fame, ignoring the shame it would bring to her family which was the purpose of the restraining order in the first place. TMZ "uncovered" the restraining order, which is another word for doing an internet search of the court documents. However, as noted earlier, adultery is not a criminal offense, there is plenty of evidence of Jen's poor character, and I doubt that it will have any impact on her sentence which is federally mandated.
  20. Oy, I just saw this. At least it has slightly higher production value than Men of West Hollywood on Crackle. However, Brad and Todrick live in the valley, and Jaymes lives in Newport. So, not only have they expanded the territory of Weho, but once again an outside production has tried to define a city without involving the actual population. Weho has one of the largest elderly and Russian immigrant populations in LA, but of course we'll only focus on the four block area of Santa Monica Blvd where the bars are located, as if that is the cultural center of town, and ignore the influence of women, poverty, and immigration on the growth of the Weho society. I doubt that they'll take the time to discuss how real estate development is pricing locals out of their long term homes, or the expansion of non-gay owned clubs, or the controversy around the largest land owner on Santa Monica Blvd who is forcing small gay bars out of business by increasing rents. Because we need more time to discuss how difficult it is to manage a social media presence while trying to maintain a private life (snore...) I get that MTV wants to program an evening around RuPaul, but this reeks of pandering without diverse representation. I, for one, would prefer an expanded discussion of how younger people are redefining the gender and sexuality binary which was the center of last season's Drag Race story.
  21. To be fair, I fail to see how Jen harassing the wife of a man she was involved with four years ago has anything to do with the fraud that she committed against the elderly. Not being a good wife is hardly a federal offense, I doubt it will have much effect on her sentencing.
  22. On a positive note (fulfilling my 2023 resolution) I would say that I prefer the blank slate status of a long-lost adult child, over a suddenly SORASed 20something who has either none of the personality traits that we saw the child actor portray, or a never-before-seen conflict with their parents due to being SORASed at a boarding school. For example, randomly naming a character Serena Baldwin has no dramatic value for me if they are just playing homage to the past, rather than exploring the depths of what it means to be the child of Scotty (and kind of Lucy), which they never do because nobody values intergenerational plot enough to keep the veteran actors on contract. I think GH has gone wrong when they contort themselves by trying to have each new person be connected to established characters. But, I still find Josh Kelly compelling enough to want to see what happens next to Cody.
  23. You may be right because if we look at the current canvas: Bobbie, Sonny, Nina, Heather, Victor, Monica, Alexis, Obrecht, Ryan, Kevin, Scotty, and Jeff have all had long-lost children who happened to move to Port Charles (sometimes more than once). I would tend to believe it was a sponsorship thing if 23&Me advertised regularly, because they are certainly not selling any diapers with all of these stories of people who abandoned their toddlers.
  24. Yeah, but you get my point that it is especially terrible that the two stories which stretch credulity are occurring at the same time, along side the Willow and Trina long lost parent reveals. Someone on the writing staff has got to find a new source of inspiration.
  25. Also, Adam was introduced with "Rebecca" inspired story of a relative in the attic, so he didn't need more women haunting his relationships and Skye #1 was such a dud that I'm certain they never thought she would last as long as she did, so she hardly needed a mother.
