  1. And Hollingsworth was later brought over to EastEnders to tidy things up as well not long after Eldorado, so the BBC must have been impressed despite the poor ratings. ITV wasn't even trying to hide how much they wanted to kill this show from the beginning by scheduling the first hour-long Coronation Street episode directly against the premiere Eldorado episode, lol.
  2. I only saw one episode of Jennifer Hudson's talk show in a doctor's office - but damn, she's so awkward, stilted, and unnatural. She's VERY rough and I will be surprised if she gets another season.
  3. I believe that pilot episode is the highest rated sitcom pilot episode in history thanks to that massive Cosby lead-in.
  4. The way they treated Lisa doesn’t surprise me, and pretty sickening that a young pregnant woman was treated like that. Her comments about the show not being a timeslot hit is funny as we’ve discussed this at length in past threads. However, the data backs up ADW being a timeslot hit despite what Jasmine claims. Without the Cosby lead-in, the show suffered and that had nothing to do with Martin (it didn’t even really directly compete with it in that last season and Fox was still a fledgling network that didn't have ratings comparable to NBC in primetime). Cheers had become a legitimate ratings hit in its own right along the way (that surpassed even Cosby) in a way ADW never did. I do think the show was ultimately undervalued by NBC though as they were more than happy to move it to Saturday in that last season and watch it die with little to no fanfare. Yvette Denise Lee, who created Martin’s Thursday night companion on Fox, Living Single, got her start on ADW, and of course a lot of ADW actors were guest stars on Living Single.
  5. She’s gorgeous, I assume this is for a new opening credits? https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cixl0P-pfSZ/?igshid=NTlmMWMyMzg=
  6. That looks on par with the horrendous Lifetime movie Angela Bassett directed. Also, historically inaccurate based on her singing ‘How Will I Know’ when Clive “discovers” her in that scene they have in the trailer.
  7. The time Barbra and her elaborate outfit upstaged the Queen, lol.
  8. Exactly - I really don’t mind or care what his preferences are, we all have them. However, that hyper sensitive and defensive (not to mention) belittling language doesn’t earn or deserve any respect. Trying to police people who don’t share your view on a message board will never go over well.
  9. I mean, it’s largely ceremonial anyway, so I don’t see it drifting away that easily. That said, having spent time in various parts of the UK, there is a general apathy about the thought of still having a royal family from big parts of the population. There is an overwhelming sense that it’s an idea out of touch with modern British values from some. If I’m honest, i’ve always felt like the royals were much more beloved in the commonwealth than in the mainland UK from my experience. A 70 reign is nothing to sneeze at though and I don’t think anyone can doubt just how devoted she was to her nation and its causes.
  10. Barbra's tribute to her late longtime friend and frequent songwriting collaborator Marilyn Bergman on her posthumous induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. You can feel how much this means to Barbra, and how much the Bergman's have meant to her both professionally and personally.
  11. Laurie Metcalf won a Guest Actress Emmy for her role on Hacks. Laurie Metcalf Wins Emmy for Guest Actress in Comedy Series
  12. Chadwick Boseman Wins Posthumous Emmy for Final Performance, in Marvel Animated Series ‘What If…?’
  13. How long did that iteration of that theme last again? A little over a year? Calhoun would scrap it for 'Hold On To Love' entirely by January 1991.
  14. The broadcast scheduling is always a bit puzzling in the UK. Earlier this year, Coronation Street moved to 3 hour long episodes a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8pm). This was also a timeslot change as Corrie’s historical timeslot (for the most part) was 7:30pm.
  15. I’d be very surprised if this is done with any dignity. https://news.sky.com/story/eastenders-special-to-pay-fitting-tribute-to-late-june-brown-12683610
  16. I think I could just watch Karen, Marco, and Jenny all day, lol.
  17. I believe in ‘96 there was a lot of talk about CBS wanting B&B to expand to an hour and the Bell’s seriously considering it. The talk was GL would be canceled to make room for that. This was also when the show was in the creative and ratings gutter. Rauch, for all his faults, did reinvigorate things for a (short) while a year or so later and GL’s “recovery” in 97 was being hailed by the press. But obviously that didn’t last too long. GL’s cancellation rumors likely began as early as 93/94 when many of the major affiliates switched it to a 9/10am timeslot, which also coincided with JFP’s worst tendencies overrunning the show by that point and ratings starting to tumble. But things got really bad in like the summer of ‘96 when GL dipped below even AW for a week or so and talk of expanding B&B took wind.
  18. Those promos are so ridiculous, but still better than what much of the show was by this point as this was when the cancellation rumors started to intensify and GL even dipped below AW for a week or so in the ratings.
  19. Yes, thanks @victoria foxton! I really do think this era still holds up well and the ensemble cast is mostly very compelling.
  20. If you want to get technical, her soap career began at GL under Allen Potter as a production assistant.
  21. It was Marcy herself who told Michael Logan she had reservations about JFP going to AMC after her GL stint, lol. She blamed Jill for using her as a negotiation tactic at GL. She was right given the ill-devised character she was given to play. https://marcywalkeronline.tripod.com/pages/press022.htm
  22. There were some meandering years in the mid/late 90's where the press complained about how boring the show had gotten and ratings started to go down. That's probably how JFP weaved herself in there - she initially came over to ABC as a consultant when she left AW, and consulted for close to a year before taking over OLTL (it was apparently between AMC and OLTL, but she landed at the latter).
