A Hollywood, CA native and son of a Beverly Hills sporting goods retailer, Mr. Griffis enjoyed 53 years acting experience, including a quarter of a century on Broadway. Many of his characters date back to radio dramas of the late 1930's. He got into show business out of college and from the beginning was a character actor. In 1950, Mr. Griffis made his debut on Broadway, playing parts in many successful shows, to include, "Oklahoma," "Jimmy," "Death of a Salesman," and "Rex." After a six-year stint on "All My Children," playing the role of Harlan Tucker, he spent most of the 80's starring on television shows after moving back to Hollywood. Among these were "Newhart," "Designing Women, "and "Remington Steele." Residency in Hillsborough was an attempt at retirement, but Mr. Griffis remained busy, even joining the cast of the Playmakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill for "The Cherry Orchard."
