LMAO at Bobbie "Jason who?"

Nancy Curlee and Stephen Demorest interview
This. I've always given Reilly credit for understanding the basics of a soap opera, for knowing the formula that works. He can be very frustrating on his own accord but when paired with other good writers to balance him out, and push them to do "more", it worked.

Y&R Actors Out?
Yep. I do wonder what Mal would have done with them. Dumping Mia was a very stupid decision. She could have been the next Jill Foster Abbott.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I liked James coming out in the interview and the street cheering him and Danny on. That was sweet. Tim and Steve were actually cute trying to befriend James and have him come out to play. LOL. "Is it weird?" "Yeah!" *smiles as the door opens* Gail having a mild heart attack due to her ungrateful brats felt a bit non-eventful. It was really nice seeing Audrey. She never changes and I love her for it (Shona's a pork pie short of a picnic or something she said). LOL. I liked their talk and a reminder that Audrey was definitely 'hands-off'. I'd argue Gail wasn't always the most interested in being a mother, but she became consumed by her kids and their lives she stopped living her own. If I were in charge I'd bring Martin back for Gail and reunite them. Can we dump Nick (he's SO awful to Gail), David (I did lol at him scheming and using a water gun to make Gail think there was a leak) and Sarah (who's very grating) and just keep Sam? LOL I'm ready for Jenny and Ronnie to get together, but it was nice seeing Johnny and Jenny just having fun together (was also nice seeing Carla supporting a clearly 'lost' Johnny). And whoo boy Daisy is a mess and I'm here for it LOL. Sean needs a slap from Eileen. Can we end the Covid protocols? LOL I appreciate what the show is trying to be again. The original tone is long gone but there seems to be an effort to make it familiar.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Been reading some spoilers/rumors. Seems like they're back on the stunt-wagon soon. Nancy gets hit with a car driven by Frankie next week. A fire will take place in the fall (was recently taped, so should air in September)

Y&R Actors Out?
This is so true. They really did fail them due to clunky boring writing. There's no direction, no real plan. It's so obvious. Lola had potential but they were too afraid to make her a schemer/bitch. Calle would have nailed it. And Tara is such a wet dishrag. My goodness. What terrible casting. Honestly, the Rosales were missed potential. I feel like they wanted a Hallmark movie with them but in reality, Rey should have been Lola's father after having sex with Celeste (who would have been his step-mother, of course LOL). It writes itself. We'd care. But Lola was forced down our throats and Calle was wasted. The Rosales had potential. And people seem interested in Amanda's clan but they get once a week airtime in some weird How to Get Away with Murder homage. Poor writing and a lack of direction/plan is the problem with this show. Well, one of them.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I mean, to be fair, episodes aren't even airing normally. They drop them all on Monday to stream. LOL. Clearly that's hurting them. But again, the show isn't exactly exciting must see TV either.

The View
I'm glad. I feel like you could see the writing on the wall this season. BYE. She's a talking head, not a talk show host.

GH June 2021 Discussion
It does seem that way. I appreciate Ava isn't treated like the [!@#$%^&*] on the bottom of people's shoes, but she can be more than just one thing at a time lol. Especially when Nikolas is more than willing to get his hands dirty. They had her slightly involved with Cyrus but it's really just been Ava and Carly finally not seething at the sight of each other (that's being saved for Nina, clearly LOL). It does feel like the stalker story is treading water a bit. Are they trying to figure out who to have it be? LOL. Did plans not work out? It's going to be quite the spectacle seeing Nina explain away merrily being in Port Charles living her life letting everyone believe Sonny is dead, all while hiding her weird feelings for him. LOL.

DAYS: Actress returns
Will she notice Sarah has vanished? It's hilarious and yet sad no one gives a [!@#$%^&*].

Jill Farren Phelps Interview
I absolutely preferred her as Vanessa on AMC. I hated they turned into some drug lord mess. Lord. McKinsey is hands down Alexandra Spaulding. But I see why Marj was cast. Unfortunately, Marj had a frenetic energy to her and that wasn't Alexandra. When she reigned it in and really delivered, I felt it could have worked. But no one could replace McKinsey, truly. That said, I felt Joan Collins was more fitting than Marj and I have given Marj a lot of slack as Alexandra. Again though, no one could truly replace Beverlee McKinsey.

GH June 2021 Discussion
I have a feeling that was the plan in 2017. Yeah, Maurice and Vanessa seem friendly and on good terms. I never believed there was truly any bad blood between them. It would be nice to hear actors like Maurice or Steve go to bat for their women co-stars but we never hear that ... But to his credit, Mo seems very well liked regardless of what we all think of his inflated ego (which he's aware of LOL). If he's constantly told 'you're the star' ... (and he just had Sean Kanan on his YouTube series, so no bad blood between them either ... it's all Frank) I agree, she'll be back eventually I'm sure. The wannabe writer in me is frustrated by all the missed potential. I'm so tired of soaps being run by petty executives who don't give a damn. LOL

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I appreciate the show has a less ugly and toxic feel to it, but I'm not surprised. It's not exactly the most interesting. It's also not horrible but nothing really interesting is going on. I imagine fans aren't interested in Chelsea and Gray (who is past his expiration date) I like Sonia and her father and his little triangle with Shirley and Kathy. Mick and Linda are expecting Max's child. Zzzzz. If I never hear 'Max' again I'm good. Then you have Bernie (who's very likeable) going on a diet with pills to become Stuart and Rainie's surrogate. Violet is filling the battleaxe archtype. Ben is pathetic over Callum, who deserves better than Ben. Then you have Ben providing protection for Jags in prison but he gets pissy over realizing Sharon and Kheerat are seeing each other so he calls it off (he's drunk when he does it) and Jags dies (supposedly). I like Sharon and Kheerat though. Kat and Phil is ok for now. He at least smiles. Martin and Ruby ... zzzz ... she can't have kids. We get it. She's terrible. I don't really care much. Ruby feels on borrowed time. I can't say it's must see. But I don't want deaths and trauma every day either. It needed to relax the over the top drama. But I don't know if these writers/producers are doing it. No wonder they finally brought Janine back. I hope she adds some life.

GH June 2021 Discussion
I'm way behind in the thread but PREACH. It's felt so natural to have Brenda back over these last few years. Yet, tumbleweeds blow by and crickets chirp. [!@#$%^&*] Frank Valentini. I've always felt he was the problem. It keeps getting confirmed. She should have come back in 2017 instead of Tams as a second character. Seems like Frank's arm needs twisting in order to see any vets in substantial roles. It's been a miracle seeing Bobbie with Maxie and Monica feels like she could have new relevance (but both often disappear for what feels like months at a time). Even Lucy has popped up more and they're FINALLY using her with Sasha, etc. It's very easy to use the vets in strong, supporting roles. They don't all have to lead stories 5 days a week. Like Scott with Obrecht. Give them some side stuff. Use them as mentors but not in a "propping you because that's all we're seen as" ... Dan and Chris seem like they want to use the vets in ways that make sense but they're limited in using them, for a variety of reasons I'm sure. It's annoying (and blatantly obvious onscreen). I have to say, Rebecca Herbst and Steve Burton still have crazy chemistry. Liz and Jason is where this all should have been going. Instead, Liz is eyeing Finn and propping him as she struggles to get a POV. I'd be all for this Jason and Carly marriage of convenience if it was written a little better (Jason has been in charge before, lord). There are scenes and times I get into Laura Wright as Carly and then there are times like this where she's just chillin' with Jason and having a beer and it just doesn't work for me. I can't believe I have to say I appreciate the soapiness of it, but the marriage of convenience coming on the heels of Britt and Jason reaching a turning point in their relationship is good. I just wish the writing were a tad stronger and we had a bit more investment, but the writers seem to be trying ... The potential is here ... some cast changes need to be made .. but the show is being held back ...

DAYS: Actress returns
Very happy Suzanne is back at work! Maggie can get on my nerves (marriage to Victor has done the character no favors) now but I love Suzanne. Glad to see her back. I thought she was. Glad it's confirmed.

GH: RIP Stuart Damon :(
Awwww man. So incredibly sad to hear this news. He was such a fantastic actor. Alan and Monica are a favorite of mine. I adored their dynamic. Damon was royally shafted and it sucked to see him fired. We were robbed of at least another decade of Alan Quartermaine. I imagine his health would have required him to step back or retire but at the same time, it was a massive mistake to fire him and kill Alan Quartermaine. Then to kill his biological son. Twice (or three or four times). This show. Seriously. Anyway ... not about that ... My heart goes out to his family. 84 is a good life but still taken from his family and us too soon. RIP Mr. Damon. Absolutely. You could tell they wanted to go there but it wasn't likely to work out, unfortunately, when I think about it. You summed him up very well.

Is Kelly Monaco Leaving GH?
This. I don't hate her but Sam has been blah for so long. Monaco has been checked out for a long time. She seemed to be interested in the Dante pairing (and checked back in because she saw she was immediately replaceable with Korman-Hartley) but even now I see she's already checking out on-screen (IMO). My gut says she wants out. She probably got pissy they didn't bring her boyfriend back as Drew (if he would even be interested). Bye. I'm sure Hallmark has a movie waiting. 18 years. My God. Don't forget the few years on Port Charles, so she's been with GH, technically, for over 20. She's likely not treated like a vet because she likes to think about her boyfriend instead of being engaged in the scene (I jest, slightly, LOL)

Jill Farren Phelps Interview
This. They totally declawed Vanessa and drove Maeve out. I imagine better writers would have gone in that direction (if allowed, mind you). This. It's a good scene. Time just isn't taken on a regular basis to really deepen a character. Every so often we get bones thrown our way ... Maeve says a lot with her eyes. I feel like so many actors just don't bother, they're playing themselves and reading lines. Even Marj is checked in and good. I argue she could have played Alex more 'in character' and better than she gave. She just has a different energy to her as an actress and it clashes with who Alexandra is. Jill Phelps needs great writers who are allowed to write so she can produce the hell out of it. I agree with others, I think she gets that and it's why she keeps saying the GL writers were the best she worked with. They were and she produced the hell out of it. But then 'focus groups' and interference ... I wouldn't be surprised if she looks at GH with mixed feelings. It was a hot mess and she has to know that. Guza had control. Frons had control. I doubt she had as much control as we thought. I do wonder if under different writers what GH would have been, but she'd probably still make the same calls. I believe most of it was Frons. "You fire her or you get fired" is probably how a lot of his conversations started LMAO

Jill Farren Phelps Interview
And that's when we lose interest. It's tedious seeing weekly shootings, explosions, stabbings, kidnappings, etc. We know they aren't going anywhere. Soaps used to build up to these events and create stakes and make us care. This. Agreed with Mitch too. Balance would be nice. I CRAVE the mundane interactions at this point.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I agree. itv3 is currently airing 1998 episodes (watching through an APP on my TV). Not to mention loads of classic episodes are on YouTube. And I have a link to a blog that posts the episodes everyday, you can watch or download. I think they go back pretty far. Personally, I'd argue the decline started in 2001 (Amanda Barrie/Alma didn't like the direction of the writing), but became EmmerdaleEnders around 2010. Today's a bit of a hollow show but there are still a ton of familiar faces so it's watchable to me. COVID protocols have hampened the feel a bit.

Soap Vet Joins Bold and Beautiful as Finn's Father!!!
Yeah. My expectations are in check. I was excited to see Ted King again on a soap but reminded myself it's B&B. And the 'stache can go ... lol I mean, we've had decades of "look it's Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy! Look it's Sydney Penny and Lorenzo Lamas! Look it's Mario Lopez!" ....

Y&R's Doug Davidson v. Nelson Branco?!!
lol! I'm glad you might have chuckled. LOL. Doug is such a whiny bitch. I'm so tired of him. Like the whole "look at Doug, Lauralee and Tricia Cast on swings". It read of "LOOK IT'S ME DOUG! DON'T FORGET ME! INVITE ME BACK!"

2021 Daytime Emmys
I'm happy for Cady, Max and Marla. Victoria and Jacqueline too. Victoria has always had potential as Ciara but she's nothing but a Ben prop. Cin fans better clutch their pearls because now that she has that Emmy ... lol So Steffy's drug addiction story was cut short because it was 'too dark'. Really? Yet the same show can lock someone in a cage and have murders of the month? Wave guns around? (Though I always believed they were never committed to it, truly, anyway - the actress was - it was a plot device to introduce Finn and their romance) This is seriously one of the biggest issues for our soaps. They've never been allowed to be truly progressive. It's such a shame. Not saying they should be as dark and depressing/"real" as the Brit soaps (I know Labine's GH bordered on depressing, yet there was always romance and humor as well) but I think a middle ground would work. Yet some couldn't stand the AMC/OLTL revivals in 2013 and they tried to tackle real stories. We just can't seem to win.

Y&R June 2021 Discussion Thread
Yep. AH would have been much better as doormat Katie. I've long wanted them to swap. I will never not miss Heather Tom as Victoria. And she'd definitely make better choices if given the same dreck as Heinle. Her eyes alone act circles around Heinle. Sorry but it's true. It's true. I like her there from what I've seen and I didn't even mind her as Mia on AMC, though 2001-2004 is a bit of a blur to me looking back. And it's not a period I've bothered to try and watch much of again. (Though I feel like she annoyed me on AMC at the time, the character, not her)
