Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I think it depends on, like others said, when you started the show, etc. A few posters have clear and fond memories of the real early years lol and I can see why it was better. I have to admit watching what I could on YouTube and my interest wanes when it hits 1983/1984 and Kobe starts. I like Long more than some on here lol but it did suck to lose so many characters and it felt like a different show. Not *bad* just not the same (YMMV). Just my perspective on someone who started in the 90s and has tried to see what I could (I hate so much has been removed from YouTube). If I was looking at it from an unbiased view, I'd say you can see the decline in almost all the soaps now cancelled starting around 95/96/97. The soaps changed and not for the better. Ironically, the four soaps left on the air now were probably at their 90s peak and still doing well. You could probably break down most of the soaps from their beginning, the 70s, the 80s, the 90s and the rest. I'd say the decline in daytime started around 1996-1998 were horrid years for most of the soaps. Rambling post but I think it depends on whether you still liked the show after 1984. Many just didn't care for it and I can see why. Now that I've seen earlier years, I get it.

GH May 2021 Discussion
I have to admit, this Carly storyline is proving that Laura Wright is miscast as Carly. 👀

I would love it. LOL. I'm shocked he wants to talk to her. I'd love it but I don't see it happening. Everytime I see a Hillary scene now all I picture is Marsha Clarke eavesdropping on her co-stars and ratting them all out as she gets thrown at man after man. I liked her as Hillary too. They should have just recasted.

GH April 2021 Discussion
They get hammered about Liz and her family on social media constantly, and rightfully so (especially when someone other than her gets a parent or sibling). I think they also realize a certain Harrison family should have been Hardy/Webbers (hence tying Chase/Finn/Jackie/Gregory together, which works, though Jackie is weirdly absent at odd times). I'm assuming Frank will find some friends to cast in those roles. I better not see Farah Fath playing Sarah. Sarah Brown or Tamara Braun playing this stuff as Carly would be amazing.

It sounds one and done, agreed.

I couldn't have said it any better.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Seems shock value plots and misery are wearing thin Yes we do! Yeah, I think Ian's family is worn out. I have no interest in Peter. Bobby is .... and Lucy is dead. I'd keep Kathy of course. But you're right. They do seem to ruin them. I would dig deeper too.

GH: John Reilly Tribute Episode
Ohhh, makes sense. I can understand her position on that. Glad almost all of the vets are involved. And good to hear it should be a nice tribute. I'm cautiously optimistic.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I have to agree, I lost interest majorly over the Bobby killing Lucy garbage. It's been a struggle to get back into it over the years. Continued poor writing doesn't help ... lol Phil feels *very* tired (beyond tired). And it seems like they're kinda desperate throwing Phil and Kat together (not sure where they stand I'm not up to date on the last month or so). Denise seems to be in constant misery which gets really old. I'd love something different for her. I like Sharon being more of a bitch, personally. But she still has a heart. Channel more of her mother. But she feels damaged. The canvas feels stale too. I'd start bringing some popular characters back and shake things up.

I agree. MEK could have been Jeff. And good point on Dan and Chris. It often does feel like 'two shows' in one (well, three if you add in Frank's pets). I guess Chris created Peter but I thought it was Altman. I'd be interested in Dan taking the reigns solo, I think he's capable but it would be nice to have diversity with a woman of color as his other head writer.

They really are. The problem with Peter and Cyrus is that they aren't menacing villains but they're written as they should be menacing. Jeff Kober is interesting but Cyrus is pathetic. The writing is the problem with both of them (and Ramsey is clearly just saying f it). Meanwhile, Obrecht is proof of how you rise above and become a fan favorite. Faison was beloved even though he was terrible. Peter and Cyrus read like "please love them even though they should be terrible villains". You know? Side-note, I'm kinda tired of Michael Knight's Colonel Sanders schtick for Martin and hearing 'Mama' constantly. Can we do more with him please?

It's just so much misery. And ahh, I can see that. Stalling and dragging things out until Christmas for inane reasons that no longer matter. I never understood misery on Christmas. Big moments happening? Sure.

GH April 2021 Discussion
THIS. I'm watching everyday. More than I can say for the other three soaps. I see the effort. Is it perfect? No. Are there characters I could care less about? Yes. But I see the effort and after a few years of crying over Oscar, making Drew and Franco happen, I'll take what they're giving us right now. The show was falling into a Hallmark-esque "we won't really *go there* drama" rut. ATWT comes to mind in it's last few years under Passanante (ironically ...)

GH: John Reilly Tribute Episode
I'm so happy Kristina Wagner and Felicia are included. She HAD to be but she hasn't been on the show in over a year so ... what's going on with that? Did she just ... leave? Or wasn't able to travel due to COVID? Looking forward to seeing Reilly's daughter play his on-screen daughter. Too bad it seems to just be a guest spot. I'm assuming the 'secret' is Kimberly McCullough as Robin but she already spoiled it herself so ... although I keep waiting to see Geary's decrepit ass pop up in the tribute.

GH April 2021 Discussion
I like the twist with Michael, Willow and Chase too because it makes them somewhat more interesting and complicated. Willow and Michael are still zzzzzzz but at least something may come of it all. Chase can pretend to be paralyzed to hold onto Willow. It makes them more 'gray'. Which I'm good with. I also like the messy Nina/Jax/Sonny/Carly stuff. At least they're trying to be a soap again LOL. Nina is shooting herself in the foot lol. I'm also patiently waiting for Sonny to set Phyllis and Lenny up in PC. And busting up Jason and Sam and moving them into new relationships is nice. Sam and Dante aren't bad. Though I feel like they aren't entirely sure where to go with them and then you have Brook Lynn in the mix with Dante and Chase ... Great to have Shawn back. I like they immediately hit the beats with him and you can tell he's silently pissed at being in jail so long. I'm glad he's back. I've become used to Briana Henry as Jordan but when literally everyone acts circles around her ... sigh.

GH April 2021 Discussion
THIS. Carly is everything they're writing her to be. Laura Wright, and I do love her, can be grating, so that's probably why folks are rebelling against it. That, and no one seems allowed to call Carly out on her laundry list of crimes and misdeeds as she reads them for filth. It's uneven writing too.

GH April 2021 Discussion
Yeah, I'm expecting Peter around until fall, despite what they say. I agree. I see potential with the show, I really do. It's still messy but it's there. They remembered they're a soap opera so that was a start. I like the soapy cliche of Willow staying with Chase out of pity (though, please, like ANYONE would choose Michael over Chase). I like that actions have lasting affects and the show doesn't feel like people are in their own bubble. Characters interact and stories interact. Also wanted to add, Carly's felt the most in character in YEARS. Despite this, Laura Wright can't totally sell Carly as a mob boss so that's why it doesn't 100% work. She can sell the other aspects but it often comes off as a harassing shrew. I think she's on way too much but it's so much better than kissing Sonny's ass and playing matriarch. And can we keep amnesiac Sonny? He's so much better. EDIT: Apologies for being late to the discussion lol I'm pages behind ...

I wish Sony would just sell their interest in the show. Sony has always felt like the problem to me with both DAYS and Y&R. I'm assuming NBC wants to keep the show (Today isn't setting the news world on fire, let's be honest so no more expansion; they have no replacements in development). But just how much lower can the damn budget go? lol And if a game show ever did replace it, the show would be a 'name' not some new development.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
These shows hold onto psychos for waaaaay too long. I agree folks are numb to it. It feels tired. The actor playing Gray is gorgeous so I assume that's why they hang onto him but it's time to move on. They seem desperate to have something 'click' and be a hit and work. Man, it reminds me so much of what we've had to sit through with the US soaps for so long now at this point.

I'd be over the moon but the show is ... yikes at the moment. Nailed it. I see no purpose in this either. For what? I didn't care either way for Kush but this is definitely a mistake.

The Bachelor/Bachelorette Discussion Thread
THIS (and I'll have to see who that guy is LOL) I've questioned reality show casting for so long. I swear they deliberately cast people with issues who should be in therapy and not on a dating show or competition series. EDIT: I wonder if being 'isolated' in a reality show bubble amplifies the mental health issues people are suffering from when they aren't surrounded by their typical routine and friends/family. I've always been interested in human psychology lol

The Bachelor/Bachelorette Discussion Thread
Colton really should probably be in therapy and not on ANOTHER reality show. Just saying. He has deeper issues (not an excuse; an observation). lol yep. He looks ridiculous going on ANOTHER reality show. And his PR goodwill blitz was just shot to hell. Lord. He (or his team around him) isn't very smart is he?
