GH March 2021 Discussion
I've been trying not to throw that out there but yeah, you know it. Sonny's wonder sperm will magically knock up Nina. I guess Snarly's reaction to it should be worth it. I'm so tired of her. I'd rather watch Cynthia Watros' Nina and her "legacy" over Laura Wright's wailing as Carly. Meanwhile, it's always fun when I randomly stir up the stanbases. I threw out there that Howarth would probably play Drew with Franco's face and they are losing their minds lol. They act like the show gives a [!@#$%^&*] about Billy Miller as Drew like they do. PREACH! Roger was playing himself really (as Franco in the last few years). He hasn't "acted" in a very long time. He perked up when Franco had the upper hand on Peter and I almost remembered when I used to like him. They wanted Todd 2.0. both times (on ATWT and GH). It didn't work. ATWT had several miscasts, IMHO in their desperation to snag ABC stars (Susan Batten, Marie Wilson, Julie Pinson, Roger Howarth). How'd that work, I see ratings rose and they're still on the air -- ooops, you're not. Howarth would have been better as a resurrected David Stenbeck (not that I'd really necessarily like that, but if they insisted on hiring Howarth ...). I also thought Hunt Block would have made a better Scott than Craig and would have given Lisa something to do. Anywho .... I digress like always.

I could give a rat's ass about Nina and "her legacy" but I'm so here for it, lol. Like you said, something interesting. I like Phyllis and Lenny too but it's been repetitive. Sonny acts strange, Lenny gets concerned, Phyllis talks him down, cop comes in, wash rinse repeat. LOL.

Summed it up perfectly. It doesn't work at all. Deep, deep deep down they have to know that. But at this point, she's been Victoria for what, 15/16 years? Yikes. I won't lie, often-times it's read like "we're kinda stuck with her" ... Interesting how I didn't mind her Victoria or Ordway's Abby under Sussman and Alden ... ... hell, they even almost turned Cane around!

GH: Classic Thread
Excellent point about the opportunity being there in 1991. Who knows what might have been had Monty stayed. Seems like one of those classic missed opportunities in the world of soaps. Timing is everything sometimes. The Herbert angle does sound interesting and something that should have been more explored. Alas, that's not what's soap became in the late 90s and 00s + ... sigh. I feel like Carlivati would have gone there with Jimmy Lee but Ingle/Edward passed away right into Ron's start at the show. I would think Edward's death would open that opportunity up but maybe they never thought about it or didn't think anyone would care without Edward around, which I can understand. Alexandria was 100% a Tracy replacement. I felt like they didn't even really hide it or try to lol. It was obvious from the word go. I wonder how it would have been seeing Tracy play out the Cassadine stuff instead of Alexandria?

lol, when you point it out that way it's kind of hilariously sad that Tracy has always had to fight for acceptance. Edward was SO welcoming of Alexandria in what I've seen. You'd think SHE was his daughter if you didn't know better. Was it a mistake in hindsight to freeze her off and kill her? I also feel like they swapped out Jennifer Smith and Frank Smith for Edward and Alexandria when it came to Luke and Laura. Just kinda funny how it quickly shifted to a similar dynamic. I like that about soaps back then, they had a canvas in mind and characters filled their roles.

I wasn't going to bring her up LOL because I *always* do but I agree. AH does cold bitch well but there's just something lacking in her Victoria. I know that's apparently "what they want" but yeah no. I say comfortable because I've seen numerous comments around social media anytime I've brought up Heather/Amelia and so many are "comfortable" with them where they are. Settled. They don't see it as we do, unfortunately, lol. And it drives me nuts when I bring up Victoria Rowell and Drucilla and people dismiss her and question why Dru would even be relevant without Neil. I kid you not. People just don't ... think outside of the box/their comfort zone. Not saying she was dismissed based on race, just saying it's like people can't see what they aren't being told to see, you know? Meanwhile, anyone else think Don Diamont has been showing off a bit in his Y&R visits like "see you shouldn't have lost me bitches" LOL. At least that's how I'm envisioning it And watching the Traci/Lily scenes this week, while it's very nice they kept that relationship, I'm annoyed for a few reasons, lol. One was already pointed out (the optics) but the other is that all it does is remind me that Dru and Colleen should never have been killed off and both should be on-screen today.

I do miss aspects of Lester's Jack that Bergman just doesn't have, which is fine. I like Bergman as Jack but like I said, I can see why people loved Lester in the role and can't accept Bergman. I get it. I feel like I do the same with certain actors and actresses ... and I do think overtime, you become more "used" to that portrayal and it becomes comfortable. Lane Davies is an interesting thought. I'm still salty GH wasted him.

LOL at random pop up cousin Lorena. Can't wait . Why do soaps have a fixation on spa stories? NO ONE CARES. Ever. LOL I'm around this time frame in watching it's been fun. 1980-1983 have been very engaging and interesting to watch play out, with what I can see, mind you. I was always surprised they never reached back into the Crane Tolliver side of Lila's history (which I'm not entirely sure of), or Jimmy Lee's side with Edward later on. Of course maybe Claire Labine would have. Never was gonna happen in the Frons era. Really surprised Jimmy Lee never came back. I know soaps loved the whole "I'm a good guy I don't want your money" schtick but I find it a bit tedious and heavy-handed as a way to say "he's a good guy LOVE HIM". But I like Steve Bond. You could tell the show was desperately trying to fill the void left by Richard Dean Anderson (who's Jeff can be annoying, no? Lol, just saying).

The Real Reason ‘The Talk’ Is In Trouble
Well hello there I agree, it does read as one last hurrah to see if they can boost ratings. I do think it has to come back and address it. I don't see them just yanking it. Sure they can air reruns of stuff but eventually they'd need a replacement. That takes time unless they have something in the wings. Usually we hear about development. It doesn't sound like any of the networks have anything for daytime to replace the soaps with unless it's news. What's next, 48 Hours: Daytime Edition, hosted by riveting CBS news personalities? 👀 LOL

Spot on. So many actors on Y&R are basically just playing themselves at this point. I've seem more of Terry Lester in the last few years as Jack than I ever have and damn do I love him in the role. I see why folks hate Bergman as Jack. I was always indifferent but I can't even look at him the same, lol.

News & Gossip from the mid-1980s per The Soaps of Yesterday
That's very true. It does sound rough. But for sure that year introduced us to so many fan favorites. I'll be curious when I watch some of the storylines what I think. I just spent time watching 1986 and the Duke/Ramsey stuff. Some of it's just edits but still fun. It's funny watching episodes from like 1980 and Susan is like a background character (she's not but not featured in what I was watching, just making a point) with Mitch and Frank Smith and then by 1983 she's knee deep in it and murdered. LOL. I have to say the show was so incredibly engaging in 1980-1983. I'm aware of everything but sometimes you don't know little details or interactions and it's fun to take the time to watch stuff I've only seen bits of. In hindsight, I wonder if they were a little too quick to kill off some of the characters they did but I'll be damned if it wasn't engaging and they didn't affect the canvas. I mean, Susan Moore's damn son is still running around today. Granted her pinky is more interesting than he is ... and my God this is why I love soaps, Lesley and Monica, 40 years later, are STILL salty with each other, yet at the end of the day have each other's backs.

lol for sure. It NEEDED to go in that direction. We'll see how they handle it, however ... BRING ON THE MESSINESS! lol!

I used to with CLB. Watch him stalking Christine. He's chilling. But I guess even then you know he's gay. It doesn't matter but CLB has become distracting, IMHO. I'm glad they don't use him much anymore. I mean, on paper you'd think Lauren and Michael would be a genius pairing. It killed both of them. Greg Rikaart does good. I loved him as Leo. Kevin can kick rocks but he does well playing him as straight. LMAO. You know in the real world Xander would have been all in.

The Real Reason ‘The Talk’ Is In Trouble
lol at watching for the male models. They do a good job picking them I have to say. LMAD is definitely annoying. I like Drew but I've just never been in love with him hosting the show even though he seems to respect it and enjoy hosting it.

I feel that way about a lot of characters I see in the 80s on soaps LOL (I'm sorry but you know Marland on ATWT would have loved to pair up Andy and Paul, despite the Paul/Emily chemistry). You just know they wanted to go there but couldn't and I believe that with Phillip. I didn't mind Phillip gay but it was just such awful writing. It was baaaad.

The Real Reason ‘The Talk’ Is In Trouble
They could just run them at 11am, 2pm and 3pm and they'd do better. I'm still not a fan of Drew Carey's Price is Right. Let's Make a Deal is only around because it's really cheap (though I'd take it over Drew's Price is Right).

GH March 2021 Discussion
I hope they go there with Nina and Sonny. I don't need them sleeping together but you know they probably will. I want it messy. I feel like Valentini is still afraid to let the show truly be as messy as it could be lol. So many Stanco stans have been whining about the "miserable" show (and all of the so-called couples busted up were awful and chemistry free). I mean, they would never have survived Frons era GH. Or the 80s on any soap. I only bring up the stans because whenever I seem to have any interest in the show, the stans don't and the show seems to end up catering to those loud and vocal stans who have no idea how a soap works.

Spot on I've often wondered if B&B's hesitation is really Brad Bell's. Vinny and Thomas don't count. That's Maria Bell bullshit.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: February 2021 Episode Count
Thank you so much for the counts! Interesting top 5/10 ... lol If they insist on Steve Burton leading, I'm gonna need Jason to start emoting a bit more. Even during Guza's hellish years Jason had some emotion. I'm over the Stone Cold bit. Anywho ...
