  1. Jim Cramer is Jewish, so I feel pretty confident he wasn't referring to Nazi Germany. He's talking about putting a sticker on people before air travel, after they have tested negative. Apparently there are countries doing that, of course, first you would need a lot of tests, which we don't have. Obviously, he chose his words on live TV poorly, but it's not the same thing at all. Trump is the one who turned down tests from the WHO, which is directly related to the fact that parts of the country are in lock down versus following the South Korea model ( I won't cite China because God alone knows what's really happening there). You bet I blame him for the confusion and delay. If we had been able to test 6 weeks ago we wouldn't be where we are right now, imo.
  2. When you post a link it will say something on the bottom like "paste as plain text instead". Click on that. https://twitter.com/MonaChalabi/status/1240991030008315904?s=20 https://twitter.com/MonaChalabi/status/1240991030008315904?s=20
  3. It will likely be ok. People can only do so much hoarding before the run out of space, especially when it comes to perishables. I find articles like this one comforting: https://www.denverpost.com/2020/03/20/food-supply-chain-groceries-colorado-coronavirus/ Short-terms shocks to the supply chain should correct themselves in the next week or so, said Jack Buffington, an assistant professor of supply chain management at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.
  4. They worked right here in Nebraska against Republican Lee Terry. He refused to stop taking a paycheck during the 2013 shutdown. In stead of being diplomatic, he said "I have a nice house and college to pay for". He got his ass handed to him by Matt Ashford (D) because of that. The ads with that quote were on all the time and you bet it pissed people off. Next election Matt Ashford lost to the jackass Don Bacon (R). Refusing to take responsibility when things go to hell isn't something people will forget. His base will follow him into hell, but there aren't enough of them (please God) to save him now.
  5. I hope every single person who is guilty of this pays a steep price. I'll wait for the investigations (or at least more info) to cast stones. If it is true though, I hope they go to jail, pay fines and are shunned by decent society (all very unlikely, I know).
  6. She's talking nonsense. What she really means is the she doesn't GAF about anyone else and she just wants to pretend everything is normal because that's what's easy. Last night the number of infected was 200,000 worldwide. It is now nearly 250,000. God alone knows the real number since testing isn't happening the way it should.
  7. Here's some mostly good news in terms of the food supply chain. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/18/supply-chain-experts-foods-that-could-be-less-available-in-pandemic.html
  8. That's what I think too. My 50 year old neighbors invited us to a St.Patrick's day party last night. I couldn't believe it. They are teachers and should know better. It's going to take a few more weeks for people to realize that if the worst thing that happens to them is missing a party or social gathering they are going to be lucky indeed. Not to be a hypocrite. I was sad that my son won't get to have a 5th birthday party with his friends and that he can't go to preschool anymore, but we have to put these things in perspective. Many people cannot or will not do that until death is staring them in the face. All you have to do is check out sites like this to see what we are in for. The rate of infection is horrific. https://ncov2019.live/data
  9. Yeah, that is completely disgusting. Don't these people love their parents and grandparents?
  10. This was a really good insight, thank you. Meanwhile it wasn't long before preschool and everything else was shut down here (Omaha) making my guilt irrelevant.
  11. It wasn't the same level of threat as you probably remember or don't remember because it wasn't like this. Believe me 20 years from now we are all going to remember Corona. Granted Trump is a useless fool who is making things much worse, but this was going to hit us hard even with someone better in charge. Most of Europe has better leaders and they are pretty f*cked at the moment too. That's thanks to the Chinese government who spent weeks arresting doctors in an effort to suppress the truth.
  12. It was nowhere near as bad as this.
  13. I wonder if he should have gone with a black man though. It's really sad that we even have to have discussions like this. With any luck he will win and a woman will finally get into that VP spot.
  14. I think the cat has been out of the bag for a couple of weeks, but who knows? Even now we can slow the spread and try to mitigate the deluge that hospitals will face at any one time, if we stay inside as much as possible. The strange thing is that I feel incredibly guilty for all of the commitments I've broken over this last week. It's really irrational, but I feel deeply guilty about not attending a child's birthday Saturday that we had RSVP's to, cancelling play dates, breaking dinner plans with friends and taking my child out of preschool. All insignificant things considering what we are facing. I wonder if some other people are feeling that too and their emotions are overriding common sense and expert advice. As to hoarding it gives people a sense of control and helps calm us down. I've figured out a way to do it that doesn't hurt people, which is I buy $10 worth of canned goods and then donate it to the food bank. I feel like I'm doing something, it eases my anxiety, but I'm not keeping the food to myself in the basement. 1) I never claimed to be sane. 2) Pandemics bring out the nut in people. At least I'm not fighting people for toilet paper and blaming random Asian people for a disease that is no one's fault.
  15. Biden does lie unnecessarily though. He needs to stop ASAP because he is going to be held to a higher standard then Trump. Don't ask me why because I've never understood why Trump gets away with what he does. It doesn't even matter that journalist call him out on it he just does it endlessly and his base doesn't GAF. Not sure how I feel about Biden choosing a woman as VP. Of course women deserve a chance, but after the unleashed misogyny we've seen over the last 4 years, I just hope it doesn't stop him.
  16. I see this as good news. I would be fine with just keeping it at community college and giving more federal grants to at risk public schools, but whatever. We need to compromise and come together as a party.
  17. ^ Hell, yes. Now this is the lane Bloomberg should have stayed in all along, imo.
  18. It only looks that way because they didn't mention the number of people who are still active cases. Thank God. Here is a website that spells it out more clearly: https://ncov2019.live/data
  19. Who knows? Maybe it would have turned out differently or maybe they would have split the moderate vote between them. Biden does have some real negatives, after all. Those clips people are putting together of Biden putting his hands (and mouth) all over teenage girls give me the creepy crawlies, for example. So icky, so entitled. I would have voted for HRC over him any day. Nevertheless, next to Trump he looks like an answer to prayer.
  20. It pisses me off. His supporters were the first to tell other people to drop out. Bernie should do the same now that he basically has no chance. Get behind the nominee. Of course those hypocrites won't, just like they didn't 4 years ago.
  21. They aren't even trying to stop this. At least that's how it seems. What a time to have such a leadership vacuum.
  22. I wish Jill Stein would FO already.
  23. Yes, on many fronts. For the first year or two of his presidency I was in such denial I kept telling myself "We can fix it. We can undo this once he's out". Bullshit. Children have been traumatized, it can't be undone. The environmental destruction his policies are enabling, can't be undone. The additional deaths his incompetence will cause cannot be undone. At best we'll be able to pick up these pieces and go on. I'm not even worried about Corona for myself, I'm worried about the people who are more demographically at risk. What a time to have a huckster in charge.
