Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
So many politicians are announcing COVID-19 positive test results today. Lots of people getting together sans masks lately. Couldn’t be me.

As I have said, I can only speak for the sport of tennis, as a fan. I cannot speak for other sports. Tennis has a code of conduct, the chair umpires and officials are multi-lingual, they can tell when someone is cursing in Serbo-Croatian or Greek or Russian, so they are fairly up to date (or learn quickly) whenever a player is participating in offensive speech or behavior. Players get penalized. I have a hard time imagining a tennis player getting away with what that Russian gymnast got away with. The Ukrainian tennis players have been very vocal in what they expect from the governing bodies and those bodies seem to have shown sensitivity. I often have complaints about how the sport of tennis is run but not on this issue. In a sport where there is a history of bad behavior, systematic doping ins particular sport and/or event, then, I would understand if they banned athletes in those cases. ‘Maybe there are some issues with marathon or long-distance runners? The Boston marathon might have some type of specific concern?

As a tennis fan, I can appreciate the nuanced take on this situation that the tennis governing bodies have instituted in allowing Belarusian and Russian players to compete, but as neutral players. I am beginning to see rumours (British spelling because the origin of the rumour is British) that certain high profile Russian players could be banned from playing Wimbledon unless they publicly disavow Putin but I am dubious as to the validity of this. I think it makes more sense to allow the athletes in as neutral competitors and give them access to uncensored news coverage whenever possible.

With such unexpected news, that’s understandable. There’s a bevy of tragic news these days, in all directions, it seems.

Very sad to hear of this news, on a human level as well as for anyone who appreciated his tweets and dispatches on unvarnished news. Such an untimely passing.

While it was amusing to look at the light-hearted banter, the media with all their short attention spans regarding anything not related to sex and violence, need to also keep front of mind that there were some pretty substantive things that were said in that press conference and signing. The declaration that the intent was always there to start out with a specific goal and to expand the ACA to be more line with something like universal coverage. And the necessary closing of a loophole that was closing off pathway for coverage for millions of family members that happened to live with a head of household that had health insurance via their employers, even though coverage didn’t extend beyond the employees, which excluded family members. Also that Republicans have gotten in the way of making the ACA more expansive and covering more people who would benefit from it. I wish the media would do its actual job and keep these aspects included in the most important aspects of their reports. It’s cool to laugh and reminisce. In these times it served as a balm for most of us, but the media’s job is different from the rest of us…they need to report on what the “meat “ and intent of the actual PC and signing was about, beyond optics.

At long last, some “higher ups”. Apparently, testifying days after her husband Jared, who reportedly gave some information deemed valuable. Allegedly.

B&B: Bold from the beginning
Yes, that makes sense @Videnbas. It’s kind of “plotty” though, in the sense that so many plot points are predicated on this relationship happening between two characters that don’t seem to have much romantic chemistry. What a tenuous link. I guess with Grease’s popularity, it was likely seen as a coup in getting Conaway, so they had to try to make it work with the two principle characters who were supposed to be still carrying a torch for one another. It’s kind of dubious though.

I am watching the Locher Room episode with Patricia Bruder Debrovner and I guess the advantage of watching the livestream in real time is that you don’t get all the ads.

B&B: Bold from the beginning
Having missed certain storylines, particularly going into 1990, would it be a fair guess that the introduction of Mick Savage marks the beginning of the exit storyline for Kristen? It’s beginning to feel rushed in certain aspects. For some reason it almost feels like the show doesn’t have enough time to build stronger chemistry between Kristen and Mick, which is somewhat odd because I felt as if I saw chemistry between Margo and Mick in the first scene where it was just the two of them. And I saw chemistry between Macy and Mick almost immediately but don’t see much of it between Kristen and Mick. Maybe that changes at some point?

I hope the series works out well for him. I liked him on Y&R who sadly underutilized him.

One Life to Live Masquerade ball - 1981
Yes, I agree and for years I have been saying the same thing in regards to P&G soaps like As The World Turns. I once worked as a liaison to an archive for a performance art institution and I am still flabbergasted when I hear that any company neglects their archive. It’s time consuming sure, but so worthwhile.

Whew, you hung in there a lot longer than me because I was through with this nonsense years ago. It’s so bad and you’re right, it’s incredibly lazy!- Oh no, ANOTHER Mass Shooting in the U.S. SMH
With all the violence occurring daily in some section of world, it’s often difficult to keep up but we should never forget the waves of indiscriminate gun violence that plagues the U.S. on a constant basis. by the way, I often look for links on SM where you can read the article free of firewalls. I don’t personally know these people. I don’t even follow most of them. TheIr posts simply provide a free, unfettered link to the article. - The Politics Thread
