  1. From the November 6, 1979 Digest. SOD Publishing Inc. Doris Quinlan, welcome to The Doctors!
  2. Poor Ken is at #30 in the poll Both he and Deirdre would have been better off with other partners, as they tend to stagnate each other and have for quite a few years. Anyway, onto happier news...a Digest article from November 6, 1979. SOD Publishing Inc. Corrie is coming to the States! (which it did, repeatedly, over the next few decades, before finding something of a footing through torrents and Youtube).
  3. From the July 1976 Daytime TV. Sterling's Magazines, Inc
  4. It's too bad they didn't keep Olivia around. I think it was JFP who made Paulina weak, just being the doting wife who remembers her place. I think Grant started to seriously change when he accidentally shot Vicky and then kept her a virtual prisoner in a clinic in Switzerland.
  5. I hope it works out for her -- it would be nice to have someone who can actually sing be on the pop charts.
  6. From the July 1976 Afternoon TV Stars. Lorelei Publishing Inc
  7. I read some post on DS, I don't know how true it is, it might not be true at all, that Burke is trying to find success in the US and all she could get in the UK was a deodorant commercial.
  8. I think just about anyone from a talent show seems destined to less and less success, unless they are well taken care of, which is rare. They don't seem to care about Joe at all. The show only cares about controversy and stunts -- they're more interested in Cheryl Cole's career than in any of the contestants. Saddling Joe with that poor Christmas single was a sign. So far his new single hasn't done all that well, I don't think.

  10. That seems like a very depressing video to sell a song. Of course I guess it hasn't been much of a hit for him, so perhaps the very depressing angle was what he should have gone with. I think that woman's voice suits the song better than Joe's. I think he would be better off going more in an Erasure direction -- she's a little more Pet Shop Boys.
  11. Even now they could bring David back -- Guthrie has passed away and I guess Marx might not be acting now but they could recast and it would be a way to bring a fresh character in, along with his son Scotty. They could even get Rick Hearst from his pointless B&B role. The show seems more willing to bring back Hortons now so the timing is right.
  12. I think saynotoursoap said the specials weren't that well-rated. It's too bad. I'd love to see them. I agree that soaps doing longer episodes sometimes might have made sense. Did The Doctors try to bring in a Nick type of character when Gerald left?
  13. Sofia would have been very good. Based on her work on Ryan's Hope as the bitchy soap opera actress, I think Ellen Barber could have been too. The show seemed to have Rachel go back and forth with her art -- it stopped for years then came back around 1993 or 1994. Then suddenly showed up again a few more times in 98 (she was in her studio when she killed Nikos; then she did a bust of Jordan Stark). Sometimes I wonder if Victoria asked them to let her do it again. I have some interviews with the Randolph kids I will type up. I still don't understand why they only had Michael stay around for a relatively short around of time as an adult.
  14. I know someone already answered this for me but I've forgotten -- did Patty Weaver leave for lack of story? I wonder if the show would have done anything with her if she'd stayed. It seemed like Liz sort of took her place. I know there were some issues with Mike after Eure was written out, and then they did recast Valerie some time after Tina Andrews left, but I guess their efforts were half-hearted. Did the show make an effort? I never understood why they didn't do more with David. You have some pretty handsome or talented actors playing him, but then he just goes. Was Gregg Marx the last David?
  15. I think by that time GL was probably being told to move further away from its past, and Peggy had vanished about a year before Kelly showed up, so people might have still remembered her son was much younger than Kelly's age. It's a shame they never thought about bringing Peggy or Billy in later. Instead of some of the silly stuff GL did with Roger and Holly in 1994 after they got back together (Mr. Tashiwa and the rest), they could have had Peggy come back and show Holly's insecurities.
  16. I probably had the same reaction she did...he probably sums up what works best in the '70s soap hunks. I wonder if any of the David/Val stuff is on Youtube.
  17. I know a lot of this is already out there, but since I was mostly posting old articles in the cancelled soaps section I thought I might start posting some stuff on the current soaps here, just under different threads for each soap. If you're interested in this, let me know, and I'll post more, or someone who has a lot of good stuff can post more. This is from the July 1976 Afternoon TV Stars. Lorelei Publishing Inc
