I guess Lemay struggled with actors who didn't suit his idea of acceptable performance. He said he cut short her madness story because he didn't think she had the talent. She wasn't a great actress but she did suit a certain range. He just didn't want to write for that. And I can't imagine she was worse than some of what I've seen of Susan Harney (who wasn't bad but wasn't exceptional).

2012 will probably be easier for Republicans than 2016, as Obama has a lot of baggage and who knows what 2016 will bring for either party. Meanwhile, Rick Perry is facing controversy because his family's hunting lodge, or what was once their hunting lodge, was called by a racial slur. I should warn that this article prints out the slur. http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/10/herman-cain-rips-into-rick-perry-over-n-word-named-family-hunting-parcel.php?ref=fpa Herman Cain has responded, saying that Perry having that lodge was "insensitive." I wonder what the reaction will be. Perry (who says his father crossed the name out when they bought the property and it isn't his place now anyway) may become a martyr to those who feel this is "PC" or "playing the race card" or "reverse racism." Cain may get some backlash. Or maybe this will all be ignored.

I wish I could see Michelle in the role. It's too bad it didn't work out, as Michelle was quite a delight on KL.

It's like Jean le Clerc starring in a tribute to ugly early '90s fashion. I especially hate the Colonel Sanders outfit, although the tribute to grunge is almost as bad. Is that really how they decided to distinguish the twins? I haven't seen Gilbert that much (only once actually) but I just don't know who decided le Clerc should play a dual role.

That's interesting. Was this when they wrote her out for good? I know she came back towards the last year but wasn't sure if she was there to the end.

ALL: They Almost Became
Carl Low tested to be Mary Stuart's new love interest on Search for Tomorrow. At the time, he was wearing a wig, to hide scars on his head from a car accident. They were interested in him. When he returned for another meeting, he was no longer wearing the wig. They felt he was too old to play her love interest, and cast Robert Mandan in the role. Carl was cast as Dr. Bob Low.

There are rumors going around that Mike Huckabee is going to jump into the race, because of the weakness of the field. He has denied this but others say he still may join. That would piss the elites off something fierce - they loathe Huckabee. I'm not a fan either, although I can see his appeal. The conservative blog Redstate spent yesterday baiting Sarah Palin about why she hadn't met her own deadline for announcing whether she would run for President. It's pretty crazy how she managed to turn so many conservatives against her. Meanwhile, meet our new welfare queen - school lunches! http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/10/montana-gop-rep-worries-poor-people-are-bilking-the-school-lunch-program.php?ref=fpa

She said she thought she was too glamorous to be Liz. Around the time OLTL was trying to attract new viewers (hiring George Reinholt for instance) there were rumors that Alberta Grant (Liz Fields on Edge of Night) was going to be cast.

That's interesting. Too bad they didn't ever bring her back - she wasn't able to have children so she could have competed with Liz for the affections of the various offspring. It's a little offputting that Janet, Pat, and Alice all had stories about how they were unable to have children.

Thanks. I've never seen that. I'd never heard of these people Ingrid or Sven. This story seems so convoluted but also sounds like fun. I'm always so fascinated by what they were doing with Ellen at this time. The idea of patient Ellen quitting a job...I guess this is when David still had amnesia? Or he and Ellen were estranged, at least. The idea of her being interested in another man. Too bad they never gave her a story like that after David passed away (she flirted but that was it). Karen seems like such an odd character. There are a lot of very quirky female characters on the show at this time - Karen, Margo, Ariel. I wonder how viewers reacted. I also wonder if that's why a lot of these characters were never mentioned again after leaving, even though there was certainly reason to bring back or mention Ariel and Karen in later years. I wonder if they were a little too grey for Marland.

I never knew about the short wig. I wanted to ask, what was it like during the year that Jacquie was away from the show? Did you notice her absence? What was Steve doing? I know that she came in and taped a few scenes at one point. I'd like to see more of Douglas as Elliot. It's strange that we went from that to Daniel Davis going hog wild. I think Beverlee was asexual as Iris, but as Alex she had some sexuality at times, like with Roger. So what stories did Janet have? Odd that she just vanished.
