  1. Wait...no offense to KR, but...someone is considered too ugly for Ste?
  2. The weather's getting a bit cooler here, which once again means it's time for me to binge watch tons and tons of classic soaps. The last few years, it's been a very sad affair with my two faves being gone for good I miss AMC, y'all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeaJ23kESF0
  3. I saw your post before you put the at the end, and that changes everything LOL. Sorry for the confusion, y'all. Bey stans are like "they forgot who the fuckin thread is for!"
  4. LOL Well, I didn't understand why you thought that. Cheap posted that text/picture about Beyonce and Joan, and another posted implied that it might be too soon to make such jokes, so I shared something about Joan that I thought would help put Cheap's pic in perspective.
  5. Anyone who remembers what Joan said she wanted her funeral to be like will understand that there should and will be no sappy, sad mourning for her, not in the public sense, at least. She wanted her death to be like her life, and taking advantage of every mean-spirited joke is how that bitch LIVED. We celebrate her shady ass under THE biggest oak tree with THE tallest glass of tea.
  6. OMG!!! I almost thought "That's mean!" but I have to remember this is Joan Rivers.
  7. Gwen Stefani was NOT feeling Taylor's performance lol
  8. I always thought Tony was hotter than Darren, but they're both very good-looking men with nice bodies. JP, the McQueens were more interesting/fun in their first year or so on the show, so if you want to see them in better days, look for that material. Circa 2006-2007.
  9. I'll check those songs out when I get a chance, but if she has stuff like that on her albums, I wish whoever's in charge would try to get some of it out there so that she's more than just that kid who sings about bullies and bad boyfriends. That's why I've never ever ever gone beyond her hits (no pun intended). Also, because I just can't stand that damn voice.
  10. Or, really, we could just stop at "You don't like me?" Regardless of what follows, it gets old. Her biggest hits have all followed the same formula where Taylor revels in pulling one over on someone who committed the cardinal sin of doing Taylor Swift wrong. "I Knew You Were Trouble," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "You Belong to Me," "Mean," and now this one all have that recurring theme, and it just doesn't appeal to me in the least. Will she ever get self-aware and write something a little deeper? I mean, if she doesn't, that's cool. If that's not what she wants to do or what her audience wants, then I've no place to expect it of her, but that's what it'll take to get me to want to listen to her -- or, rather, like her lyrics, because I can't stand her voice. "Red" is the only song she's written that I've really liked.
  11. I can't stand Taylor's ass, and I don't need a reason. I just don't like her or her music. It doesn't speak to me, so I keep it moving. I do like the music of this latest song, but the lyrics are more of the same in the vein of "You don't like me? You're just jealous!" Write about other sh!t, please.
  12. My baby Morgan maintained such a natural face until a few years ago
  13. I think Soap Classics has stuff starting from 1979, hence all the great video packages on YT. There is an episode from September 1978 online as well (one of Colleen Zenk's earliest appearances as Barbara). There's also one from 1972 with poor quality B/W video, but it's definitely worth watching. Other than very short clips, however, that might be all that we have from ATWT's early 70s heyday.
  14. I believe so. They divorced the same year Andy was born. There's a clip out there that was used for the 50th anniversary of John pleaded with Kim to not go through with it, but she rather sympathetically tells him that she'll only hurt him. Kathryn Hays in her prime!
  15. I'm looking forward to the scene where Betsy goes at John. I do like her, though. Like you said, she is very soulful. Kinda like daytime's answer to Kristy McNichol. It must have been interesting to be a young actress on the show for that particular five-year period. Were there any other Betsys between Suzanne and Meg? And was there any extreme SORASing between the two? Annie and Dee are kind of a bore. I do like them with their parents, and I love Ellen and David. How weird for them to spend the early 70s as parents to two grown sons, then both sons end up dying and their two daughters grow up and take over. Maybe this was an attempt to sorta de-age the characters (especially my girl Ellen)? Back to Annie and Dee, though. I'm disappointed in them somewhat because I've always loved the concept of the Stewart family and their predecessors the Lowells as a less idyllic counterpart to the Hughes family. I was looking for more from these two supposed-to-be young girls in the late 70s. Once again though I guess that's ATWT's fall from grace and need to cling to its old-fashioned ways. I wish they'd tried to reestablish the Stewart family more in the end. Annie had quadruplets and we never saw a single one of them onscreen!
  16. I had no idea about that, Chit. That's a very interesting piece of history. I'm most looking forward to the Emotions and Chi-Lites episodes. I know most people think "Best of My Love" when they hear of The Emotions, but they'll always be "Don't Ask My Neighbors" to me. And that holiday standard "What Do the Lonely Do at Christmas?" I'm still waiting patiently for Betty Wright and Maze/Frankie Beverly. I feel like Rick James is far from "unsung," but that's just my opinion.
  17. I posted a status update about this last week, but I have to comment further. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkpjORLrFkM vs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfqhzaRiBW4 I really do enjoy both versions of the song, but I feel like Bonnie Tyler is actually embodying the lyrics and what it means to be in love with married men whereas Bette Midler is siiiiiiiiiiiiinging a song, and the song happens to be about being in love with married men. The wailing really turns into a full-on whine by the end of the song, and there's really no emotion behind it. I do love the strings in Bette's version, though, and I REALLY love the musical bridge that is completely nonexistent in Bonnie's version.
  18. I've been working my way through the 1979 clip packages, and I think I'm starting to see what some of you meant when you were commenting on how absolutely drab and lifeless the show was at this point. Some scenes really are good and interesting, but so much of it just plods along. I'm a huge advocate of less background music in soaps, but these extremely long scenes such as any including Grant and the police detective, sans music but very chatty, are a chore. The most interesting things at this point are Kim/John and Lisa's battle against Hester. Everything else is dreadfully boring most of the time, and that saddens me. I expected more from the show at this time, but I guess there really aren't any surprises here considering what was going behind the scenes. Three or four years earlier, and I'm sure it would have been on fire. The actress playing Betsy has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard in daytime!
  19. I love The Chateau and The Goalpost as well, but the Valley Inn will always have a special place in my heart because so much of the show took place there when I started watching. I loved those sets.
  20. Are we sure that's her hair, though?
  21. Good for him, ol' Thot Prispot! I gave up on AHS last season, but I hope it leads to other things for him.
  22. I loved Cam Zeegahndayyyy on The OC.
  23. Thanks!!! I'm gonna jump right into it as soon as I can. I never did get to see the last three or four episodes. Just skimming through some of the eps, I'm reminded of how lush and beautiful the music was. IMO, all of the primetime soaps of the time had great, great music, but FR's roots as a 40s movie are definitely reflected in its melodramatic scores.
