You know Dani is the STAR when Karla Mosley has 4, yes, FOUR, costume changes all in just the first "day" of the show (the next day kicks off on Friday, I believe). Like, Drew on GH. The only thing is, we know Bill ain't dying on this show. Can't say the same for Drew when the time comes. Too many people are gonna want him gone.

Please, for anyone who might be even a little bit disappointed in the first episode, remember it's day one, episode one. Exposition is necessary when establishing a new series, particularly with its first episode. In primetime, this is called a pilot. I URGE everyone who might be skeptical to at least give the show all five days before passing judgment or critique, both good and bad. For me, watching all the episodes as a binge/marathon had me thoroughly invested and waiting for what's next. If that's something you think might work for you, I highly suggest that method as well. Either way, don't call it a failure or trash it based on one episode. To be clear, I'm not saying the episode itself is bad. I'm just saying before you judge it give it a chance beyond episodes one, two, or even three.

ARTICLE: Opening the Gates: A Brief History of ‘Beyond the Gates’
It’s hard to believe that nearly a year ago next month we learned that a broadcast network had not only discussed the possibility of putting a brand new daytime drama in development but that it had been having ongoing conversations over such a thing for quite a few years. That network, CBS, formally announced a little show called “The Gates” on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, which would follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community. Created by veteran soap opera writer Michele Val Jean (“General Hospital,” “The Bold and the Beautiful”), who would also serve as showrunner, executive producer and head writer, the new soap would be produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP production venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. Best known for producing the classic soap operas “As The World Turns,” “Guiding Light” and “Another World,” among others, “The Gates” would mark the company’s return to daytime soap operas since the cancellation of “As The World Turns” in 2010. In addition to Val Jean, Ducksworth was announced as an executive producer on the project, in addition to her role as president of the CBS Studios/NAACP production venture, with Ducksworth saying at the time, “This series will salute an audience that has been traditionally underserved, with the potential to be a groundbreaking moment for broadcast television.” Established in 2020, the CBS Studios/NAACP production venture was created by the two companies to develop content for CBS, among other providers, with an emphasis on producing premium content that expands diverse voices by telling inclusive stories that increase the visibility and impact of Black artists in a growing media landscape. By April 2024, “The Gates” was ordered to series, officially marking the first new soap opera scheduled to air on CBS’ daytime lineup in nearly 40 years (since “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 1987), the first new daily drama series to air on broadcast television in more than 25 years (since NBC’s “Passions” in 1999) and the first-ever one-hour Black-centric daytime drama series. Simultaneously, “The Talk” was canceled with CBS ordering a shortened 15th and final season that would conclude in December 2024. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/media/2024/09/Beyond-The-Gates-Logo-1024x576.jpg“Beyond The Gates” CBS By September 2024, “The Gates” was retitled “Beyond the Gates,” and the series formally established its core storyline around the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. Set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington D.C., and in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States, “Beyond The Gates” is where viewers find a posh gated community filled with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions that the wealthy call home. Behind the pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. As for those living outside the gates, they are indeed watching closely. For every person who has “made it,” there are always those who have not. Follow the characters as they live, love, work, and play, all while trying to navigate life, some more gracefully than others. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/media/2024/10/3044034_4981b-1024x683.jpgDaphnee Duplaix, Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Karla Mosley Quantrell Colbert/CBS The first to be cast in the new series were soap alums Tamara Tunie (“As The World Turns,” “Days of our Lives”), Daphnée Duplaix (“One Life to Live,” “Passions”) and Karla Mosley (“The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Guiding Light”). Additional cast announcements came in the weeks that followed, with Clifton Davis (“Godfather of Harlem,” “Madam Secretary”) playing Dupree patriarch Vernon, along with actors Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Marquita Goings, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad, Arielle Prepetit, Alex Alegria, Lauren Bugliogli, Ben Gavin, Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob and Mike Manning. Not just Tamara, but other actors have done the voiceovers as well, including Karla, Clifton, Daphnee and a few others who were used throughout the first week's episodes. Oh, and the first week only shows 2 iterations of the opening title sequence, so maybe as the weeks go by we'll see more. Each iteration only displays 12 cast members, primarily those appearing in the episode.

ARTICLE: ‘CBS Mornings’ Goes Behind the Scenes of ‘Beyond the Gates’ Ahead Of New Soap’s Premiere
In case you missed the segment on “CBS Sunday Morning” last month, CBS will once again air the Nancy Giles segment featuring the cast of “Beyond the Gates” on the Monday, February 24 broadcast of “CBS Mornings,” anchored by Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson, Soap Opera Network has learned. Presented by journalist Nancy Giles, the segment will take viewers behind the scenes of the first new network soap opera to premiere in more than 25 years and the first-ever one-hour Black-centric daytime drama series. We’re told what will air on Monday on “CBS Mornings” isn’t too much different than what already aired in the prior broadcast. However, it’s the morning show’s story using the “CBS Sunday Morning” material. Set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C. in one of the most affluent African American counties in the United States, “Beyond the Gates” follows an affluent Black family who holds court over Fairmont Crest, a posh gated community that’s the center of luxury with wealthy residents harboring deep secrets. Watch as Giles speaks with cast members Clifton Davis, Tamara Tunie, Daphnée Duplaix and Karla Mosley who portray the four core members of the fictitious Dupree family that founded the community they live in. “CBS Mornings airs weekdays from 7:00-9:00 a.m. ET/PT on CBS. “Beyond the Gates” premieres Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT on CBS. The programs can also be streamed Live and On Demand with Paramount+. In case you didn’t get to watch the original segment aired last month or don’t have time on Monday, you can watch the segment in its entirety below. Without saying anything specific, I loved all the episodes I had the privilege of watching before the premiere. However, episode four, and especially episode five, is where the show truly sets itself off. Things are really in place for the characters and make sense for the audience if you still had questions.

Ron Carlivati is a breakdown writer, not a scriptwriter who actually writes the words the characters say. Regardless, Michele Val Jean as head writer and Robert Guza Jr. as co-head writer approve scripts before they are sent to the actors for filming. I haven't watched the segment myself, but if you're saying what I think she might have been saying without saying it, I believe I know what she might be referring to. To be clear, it's not about Ron Carlivati at all. That said, I won't taint the show with that nugget right now as it needs no negative press going in. It'll come out when the time is right (again, I didn't say ANYTHING!)
