ARTICLE: Total Viewers and Households Return, ‘Beyond the Gates’ Sees Significant Gains Over ‘The Talk’
After an extended absence, Soap Opera Network is happy to announce that we will once again be able to report the weekly performance of the daytime broadcast shows among Total Viewers and Households, along with the readily available Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 sales demographics, starting with Nielsen ratings data for the week of February 24-28, 2025. As reported earlier, CBS’ “Beyond the Gates” averaged 2.28 million viewers among Live+3, +78% over the year ago performance of “The Talk.” In fact, among Live+3 streaming, “Beyond the Gates” increased +7411% over the streaming only AMA performance of “The Talk.” Black viewers made up 55% of the new show’s audience, a hefty increase over the comparable performance of “The Bold and the Beautiful” (30%), “The Young and the Restless” (29%) and “General Hospital” (22%). Against its timeslot competition on ABC, the new soap was in a virtual tie with “General Hospital” among Total Viewers (vs. 2.02 million) when factoring in three days of delayed viewing (Live+3) and finished ahead of the long-running soap in the key Adults 25-54 demographic. The premiere episode of “Beyond the Gates” (February 24, 2025) averaged 3.0 million viewers, beating out the July 5, 1999 debut episode of NBC’s “Passions,” which averaged 2.96 million in an era of less viewing competition. With its 9 share among Households, “Beyond the Gates” also beat out the 7 share received by “Passions,” meaning a larger portion of people viewing television watched the premiere of”Beyond the Gates” than the premiere of “Passions.” In Live+Same Day, “General Hospital” topped “Beyond the Gates” among Total Viewers (1.852 million vs. 1.810 million) during the week of February 24-28, 2025, with the former down -196,000 viewers week-to-week and -150,000 viewers year-to-year. Meanwhile, “Beyond the Gates” was up +512,000 viewers over the year ago performance of “The Talk” among Total Viewers (1.810 million vs. 1.298 million), and up +0.4 among Households (1.2 rating vs. 0.8 rating). “Beyond the Gates” topped “General Hospital” among Women 18-49 (0.25 rating vs. 0.19 rating) and among Women 25-54 (0.39 rating vs. 0.28 rating), marking the first time a brand new daytime drama series beat out its soap opera competition in its debut week in over three decades in each of the key sales demographics used to sell ads for daytime television programming. Outside of “Beyond the Gates,” all other daytime broadcast shows saw significant drops among Total Viewers week-to-week, while “The Young and the Restless” (3.180 million) was up +95,000 viewers compared to its performance during the same week last year. Likewise, “The View” (2.515 million) was up +170,000 viewers from last year and “NBC News Daily” (1.187 million) was up +19,000 viewers over the year ago week. Among Households, “The Young and the Restless” was flat year-to-year (2.1 rating), while “The View” was up +0.1 (1.7 rating vs. 1.6 rating). “GMA3: What You Need to Know (1.318 million) was also flat year-to-year among Households (0.9 rating). ARTICLE: ‘Happy’s Place’ Renewed For Season 2 At NBC
After a successful freshman season that saw the show’s pilot episode amass 17.6 million viewers across all platforms, up +338% from its initial broadcast on October 18, 2024, NBC has ordered a second season of “Happy’s Place,” starring Reba McEntire. The series is about a woman named Bobbie (McEntire) who inherits her father’s tavern (Happy’s Place) and is surprised to discover that she has a new business partner, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), a twenty-something half-sister she never knew she had. Called “nostalgic, funny and heartfelt” by Variety, while the A.V. Club touted the show’s “comforting familiarity to its rhythms and its jokes, to its plots and its characters,” the series has rejuvenated NBC’s Friday lineup, improving its 8:00 p.m. ET/PT slot by 54% among Total Viewers and is the second best comedy launch on Peacock ever, behind only the network’s other freshman series “St. Denis Medical,” which was also renewed for a second season. In addition to McEntire, the series stars include Belissa Escobedo, Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk and Rex Linn. Created by Kevin Abbott and Julie Abbott, “Happy’s Place” is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, with executive producers Kevin Abbott, Reba McEntire, Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis, Matt Berry and Pamela Fryman. Overall, NBC notes that “Happy’s Place” and “St. Denis Medical” have reached nearly 45 million viewers across linear and digital platforms this season. ARTICLE: NBC Orders Pilot For Untitled Tracy Morgan Single-Camera Comedy, Reuniting Actor With ’30 Rock’ Producers Tina Fey, Robert Carlock & Sam Means
NBC has handed a pilot commitment order for an untitled Tracy Morgan single-camera comedy, which will see the former “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” star reteam with Tina Fay, the latter series’ creator, who will also serve as one of the potential show’s executive producers, alongside Morgan. Written by Robert Clark and Sam Means, the comedy sees Morgan portraying a disgraced former football player on a mission to rehabilitate his image. Clark and Means will executive produce with Fey, Morgan, Eric Gurian and David Miner. Rhy Thomas is set to direct and executive produce the pilot, which Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, where Carlock, Means and Fey have overall deals, is producing with Little Stranger, Bevel Gears and 3 Arts. Morgan will next star in the Paramount+ half-hour comedy series “Crutch,” which is scheduled to premiere later this year on the streaming service. His deal allows him to star in both projects should the NBC pilot get picked up by the network and “Crutch” continues beyond its initial series order. NBC recently renewed freshman comedies “St. Denis Medical” and “Happy’s Place” for second seasons, set to air during the 2025-2026 television season. ARTICLE: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Splashes In Debut, ‘The Young and the Restless’ & ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Hit Season Highs Among Key Demos
Days of our Lives has never been touted as the reason people subscribed to Peacock. Not saying people didn't jump at the chance and do so, nor not saying the show isn't successful on the platform, but let's not for one minute think it's the sole reason Peacock is still in business. Everything they have released on the subscriptions has always been referenced by sports as the main driver of success. Other than my note about Peacock, I agree with you. Soaps are helping keep churn low and maintaining subscribers at the service. That's the main goal. Soaps, sports, and a LOT of classic broadcast programming are what are doing the best for the streamers. Their originals, not so much, unless they are Netflix, of course. That said, live viewing on traditional broadcast does have a huge impact on the bottom line. This is evidenced by today's announcement of layoffs across ABC News, including GMA, GMA3, 20/20 and Nightline, along with even World News Tonight with David Muir. When ratings for traditional television reach record low levels, the money starts to dry up. Therefore, while streaming helps combat that, it won't ultimately save everything.

Forgot to post in this thread: Jamey Giddens has joined Beyond the Gates as a breakdown writer. I'm hearing Gregori J. Martin ("The Bay") left the series at the end of January, which is seemingly confirmed by a recent Instagram post he made.

ARTICLE: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Splashes In Debut, ‘The Young and the Restless’ & ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Hit Season Highs Among Key Demos
The debut of “Beyond the Gates” during the week of February 24-28, 2025 had a halo effect on the bulk of CBS’ daytime lineup, with “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” up by substantial margins compared to their performance during the same week last year, Nielsen data shows. The veteran CBS soaps also hit new season highs among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, the two key sales demographics used to sell ad rates for daytime television programming. For the week, the network’s launch of its first new daytime soap opera since 1987, and the first new soap opera to premiere on network television since the debut of “Passions” on NBC in July 1999, ranked a solid No. 1 in its timeslot opposite “General Hospital,” where the two compete head-to-head in most markets. With its 0.25 rating among Women 18-49, “Beyond the Gates” ranked a solid sixth for the week among daytime broadcast shows, up +0.06 week-to-week from the performance of the preview special “Beyond the Gates: Welcome to the Neighborhood” (0.25 ratings vs. 0.19 rating), and up +0.09 from the year ago performance of “The Talk” (0.25 rating vs. 0.16 rating). Among Women 25-54, “Beyond the Gates” again ranked sixth for the week, averaging a 0.39 rating in the key sales demographic, up +0.09 from the week ago performance of the daytime preview special and +0.14 from the year ago performance of “The Talk.” “Beyond the Gates” marked the network’s best performance in the 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT slot since the week of March 7-11, 2022 among Women 18-49, and the best since the week of September 27-October 1, 2021 among Women 25-54 rating. The Young and the Restless As for the rest of the CBS lineup, “The Young and the Restless” was down slightly week-to-week among Women 25-54, averaging a 0.52 rating for the week, but the soap did manage to see an increase over its performance during the same week last year (0.52 rating vs. 0.45 rating). Additionally, among Women 18-49, the perennial ratings leader among daytime dramas was up week-to-week (0.35 rating vs. 0.31 rating) and year-to-year (0.35 rating vs. 0.30 rating). The Bold and the Beautiful “The Bold and the Beautiful” was also a big winner, up across the board. Among Women 18-49, the half-hour soap averaged a 0.31 rating, up +0.03 from one week earlier, and up +0.05 over its performance during the same week last year. Meanwhile, among Women 25-54, the soap hit a 0.47 rating for the week, up +0.02 from last week and +0.08 compared to the same week last year (0.47 rating vs. 0.39 rating). General Hospital Opposite its first soap competition since the cancellation of “As The World Turns” in October 2010, “General Hospital” was down week-to-week among both demographics, averaging a 0.19 rating among Women 18-49 and a 0.28 rating among Women 25-54. The Price is Right Elsewhere, “The Price is Right” remained the top show in key demos, with the game show’s second half-hour flat week-to-week among Women 18-49 (0.39 rating), while the first half-hour saw a nice week-to-week uptick (0.38 rating vs. 0.34 rating). The Drew Carey-hosted program was steady among Women 25-54 rating, with only the second half-hour posting week-to-week and year-to-year declines, albeit nothing to be concerned about. Wrap-Up What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of February 24-28, 2025 among Women 18-49 rating and Women 25-54 rating, including their performance during the comparable week last year. A closer look at how the daytime soaps performed, specifically their daily performance breakdown in the demos, will be posted shortly. Are you saying the show is still on its first "day," or is this what that site is saying? In the world of Fairmont Crest, the show is on day 3. Dani and Hayley's confrontation was Day 1. The model photoshoot for Chelsea was Day 2, with Dani and Andre having sex that very night. The wedding was on Day 3, with Dani and Andre having a morning after conversation, Dani confronting Bill before the wedding, and then Dani pulling the gun on Hayley and Bill that very night. In fact, there were scenes where characters specifically said Hayley and Bill's wedding is on "Friday," so there is no way all this took place in one day.- ARTICLE: Bryce Durfee Cast As Josslyn’s WSB Handler on ‘General Hospital’

“General Hospital” has cast actor and model Bryce Durfee in the recurring role of Vaughn, Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) handler at the WSB. According to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news via an interview with the actor, Durfee makes his debut on the Friday, March 7 episode of the daytime drama series. “I was anxious in the sense that I didn’t know what to expect because I knew the soap world moves fast. But as far as the performance, I had just finished another project and was feeling loose and ready to go, so I was really excited for that,” said Durfee of his first day on the job. “That first day was just a whirlwind! I kind of felt like I got thrown into a washing machine and I got spit out an hour later [laughs],” he continued. “That’s kind of how I remember that first day. I can’t wait to see how it turned out!” It turns out that Durfee could have landed in Port Charles a lot sooner had the show cast him as Harrison Chase back in 2018 instead of Josh Swickhard, who happens to be a pal of Durfee’s from their modeling days. “It was down to me, Josh and I think a third guy,” Durfee recalled. “And the best man got it! Josh is absolutely fantastic, and I was really excited to run into him on [the] set recently.” Another “General Hospital” connection for Durfee comes from his time starring in the PassionFlix original series “Driven,” which also featured Charles Shaughnessy, who played Victor Cassadine on the soap opera from 2021-2023. Also starring in “Driven” was “Days of our Lives” alum Casey Diedrick (ex-Chad DiMera). The series ran for just three seasons and produced 16 episodes. Before he makes a name for himself in Port Charles later this week, which marks Durfee’s first speaking role on a daytime drama series, the actor previously appeared in a 2012 episode of “The Bold and the Beautiful” as a male model. Durfee’s other credits include roles on such shows as “Last Man Standing,” “Man with a Plan,” “9-1-1,” “Hacks,” “Baby Daddy” and “Aquarius,” among others. Ahead of their annual “Live with Kelly and Mark After the Oscars” broadcast on Monday, March 3, “Live with Kelly and Mark” hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos interviewed Oscars host Conan O’Brien in a hilarious must watch moment. In the clip, recorded backstage during Sunday’s Oscars telecast, Ripa and Consuelos can be seen standing on wooden boxes as they stood even with O’Brien’s height of 6′ 4″ that saw the former late night host get up close and personal with the daytime talk show hosts, particularly Consuelos, who he called Consuelos “distractingly handsome.” During their banter, O’Brien asked how the real-life married couple manages to live and work together daily, to which Ripa jokingly replied, “[after work] He goes home to his regular apartment, and then I go back to the mansion.” As the clip closes, Ripa excuses herself as the bromance between Consuelos and O’Brien is born, with O’Brien jabbing at Consuelos, saying, “And I’ll see you at the gym.” Watch the full clip below. I heard that too and wondered if it was an oversight with another scriptwriter using "Senator" instead of congressman about Martin Richardson and that it wasn't caught by production since it's clear that's the title he was given from the scripts Michele herself wrote. Otherwise, I can't imagine another politically involved Richardson being brought on or referenced since we know Martin is the one who has the secret. We'll see. (update) I forgot to add that when the person says "Senator Richardson," it's clear they are talking about Martin since it shows him eavesdropping on someone (Nicole?) and then he meets with his mother at the Country Club, telling her, "You need to be the first one to know." Sounds like a writing oversight to me. - ARTICLE: The Young and the Restless Must Watch Moments For the Week Of March 3-7, 2025
