The soap ratings seem to have been really bad for a few months now and its been embarrassing to look at. I mean they've been bad since the 90s but I mean their hitting new lows every week it seems like. This rating system is so outdated, I don't even take it seriously like I used to until they change it which they never will.

Its only a matter of time as I think before the summer ends that DAYS will become the #2 soap marking a first since the late 80s that the #2 soap isn't B&B.

Days was pre-empted again in a lot of markets for several reasons. I hope they are able to bounce back from the fall last week tho.

I know it was kind of mentioned last week, but it looks like AMC and OLTL had yet another quarter and big growths in viewers on SoapNet

I'm pretty sure AMC was #2 for most of the early 90's, and DAYS for most of the mid-to-late 90's.

ETA: Just checked. B&B has been #2 since 1999, 10 years.

Yep. AMC was the #2 soap from at least 1992 pretty much through the spring of 1995. DAYS took over as a solid #2 by early 1996. Then B&B took over #2 in 1999, though GH particularly has been #2 or tied for #2 on various occasions since. GH tied them in January 2007. For short periods in 2002 and 2004 GH was the #2 soap. DAYS also had a patch in 2002 where they beat out B&B for second place.

Why would you hope that? Even if I'm not happy with a soap, I want them all to do well because I don't want the genre to die out. Any victory for any soap is good news, IMO.

Exactly. And a record drop in ratings would signal to everyone that people aren't putting up with the drivel. Mediocrity Shittiness should not be rewarded.

I'm afraid with a ratings drop, they would just decide we aren't seeing enough of the quad and random psychos.

I don't want any of the soaps to drop, although I won't be too sad if AMC (which is confusing and run by those who can't tell stories to save their lives, it seems) or GH (which is now all about Sonny's spawn) fall a bit.

I don't think any of us should be looking forward to a drop for any show, because there isn't any real difference between most of them and they will sink as a group.

Personally I'd love to get my hands on the Day +7 ratings and see what kind of story that tells. I think we'd all be breathing easier with those numbers.

She was, according to the broadcast episodes of Peyton Place.
They're available to watch on Youtube if you'd like to verify.

I had such high expectations for Beacon Hill, and hoped it would be a classy, American version of Upstairs, Downstairs, which I enjoyed.
The first episode was atrociously written, and TBTB seemed to be treating the series as low-brow camp. I expected Jerry Lewis to pop up as The Nutty Professor at any moment, LOL.
When I saw that the writer was Anne Howard Bailey, whose abysmal writing had tanked How to Survive a Marriage and doomed that daytime soap to failure, I was crestfallen. With hackneyed caricatures and shallow scripts at BH's core, I quickly predicted it would be a bomb.
Most frustratingly, weeks into its run, the writing suddenly took an upwards swing. HTSAM had had the thing happen: after AHB was replaced by the great Rick Edelstein, the quality of the writing surged.
Alas, neither the viewers of HTSAM nor BH gave those dramas a second change; once burned, twice shy, I suppose.
I stuck with Beacon Hill out of morbid curiosity, wondering if the network and/or show runners would do anything to turn the series around. I had watched the debuts of several soaps (HTSAM, Bright Promise, Return to Peyton Place, Where the Heart Is, among others) whose early days were stained by poor writing...but suddenly rebounded when new scribes were brought in.
Unfortunately, none of those soaps were able to recover from their disastrous beginnings.

Really soaps should always give long term characters some sort of decent send off.
I'm annoyed Y&R didn't do a tribute to Brock. Over the years he was involved with so many characters and with Beau Kayzer gone, Brock should have died also.
Back on topic The Doctors saw a change in format in the the first year. Originally they planned to tell a story a day but I think low ratings and the difficulty involved in mounting basically a new producttion each day saw them move to 5 episode stories. Then just over a year after the debut TD became a full on continuing story in the traditional soap format.

DAYS: February 2026 Discussion Thread

Today was kinda boring.
There really needed to be a secondary storyline included today to offset the whole stalker thing.
But as botched as this storyline was, I’m looking forward to seeing this all play out, especially now that Stephanie’s been kidnapped. Now that this is all wrapping up, hopefully it means that we’re going to move on to a better story for all of these characters. This could’ve been so much better than what we’ve gotten.
Everything with Johnny and Bonnie felt a little unnecessary too. But Johnny did look good in his suit.
RC’s LGBTQ+ themed soap, where everything’s a big stupid joke, the sexual harassment is constant and all the female and bisexual male characters are the worst people ever

I'm so glad that didn't go ahead. Some of Rachel Ames' last big scenes were telling Elizabeth in '98 about Tom Baldwin raping her, and she was just incredible in that material.
I'm perturbed she didn't get a more full sendoff - I assume she's not able now as she's nearly 100. I think Audrey's last (largely voice) appearance was writing Liz a letter about marrying Franco, IIRC of all things. But still, they did a lovely tribute to her in 2013 for the 50th, when Audrey visited the GH hub and blessed the new memorial or something. The entire cast and extras broke into applause mid-scene after she said her lines, and judging by the look on Ames' face I am fairly convinced she didn't know it was coming. I do appreciate Frank Valentini for that, and for what he did for John Ingle's last request among others.

I don't have any issue with Anastasia being OTT. I just don't think the actress is very good lol.
Nor do I have an issue with Mona's faith. I think it makes sense to have a character represent the people with more overt ties to the church. I don't think she's a fanatic. They'd have to do a lot to clean up Randy if they intend to make him continue with her, though.
