January 25, 200719 yr Author Member Okay, that last segment before 'halftime' was my favorite. I'm loving Beth Ehlers as Irna.
January 25, 200719 yr Member Beth Ehlers is doing a fantastic job. Very well put together show. I'm a little bored though, but the show is still good. I am not bored at all. I am eating this up. But that is the soap historian in me I guess. LOL I have always said that daytime should do an Irna Phillip's bio movie. Or some motion picture should do it. It would be so good. So that side of it is wonderful.
January 25, 200719 yr Member Well, I've never watched GL before, but I am watching today's special 70th anniversary episode, and it is certainly interesting.
January 25, 200719 yr Member Okay I'm not bored anymore, lol. This was definitely a great idea. I LOVE Chamberlin!
January 25, 200719 yr Member LOL, this is LOADS better than the nonsence ATWT dished out last year. Paying tribute to THEIR show, rather than "old" sitcoms. I wonder what B&B will come up with. Edited January 25, 200719 yr by DruRocks
January 25, 200719 yr Author Member I wonder what B&B will come up with. It will start with Sheila's first appearance and end with her last, LoL
January 25, 200719 yr Member I am loving it! So much better then the Munsonsters, etc that ATWT celebrated their 50th with.
January 25, 200719 yr Member I'm not familiar with GL history, but according to the the show's Wikipedia entry it began on NBC radio before moving to CBS. But didn't early on in today's show, they say 'here on CBS radio' instead?
January 25, 200719 yr Member With the focus on Irna so much, this is more than a tribute to Guiding Light - it is a tribute to soap operas since she is the one who invented them. This is wonderful. I can't stop saying that enough. And Justin Deas has Papa Bauer down to a tee.
January 25, 200719 yr Member Too bad they don't have Agnes Nixon in here or Bill Bell. Bill was her assistant on GL for awhile, and then it was Agnes and she turned the show over to Agnes for many years - just supervising her.
January 25, 200719 yr Member At first I was bored and wondered why they'd waste an episode on this but about 15 minutes in I was hooked. I'm surprised. It's like time is slipping by as the show is airing. It's really good and it's fun and informative. Good job, GL!
January 25, 200719 yr Author Member I love this episode because many people just watch soaps for the sake of watching a soap. This teaches those viewers about what the genre is all about, why it exists.
January 25, 200719 yr Author Member Ooh, I got chills with that ending. WHO ELSE?! Admit it... you did.
January 25, 200719 yr Member What was the ending? I am downloading the clips now. I hope I will be impressed the way some of you are.
