Y&R: Who launched the Nuclear Warhead?

In the past few months I must have missed the rumors of the possible cancellation of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS. ...

I say this because this program has been SOOOO excellent...so superb...so suspenseful and intricate on a daily basis...that the only comparisons I can come up with in American daytime drama are the final last hurrahs of those dearly departed soaps that in their 11th hour, as they were being herded towards the network death chair, pulled out all their dramatic big guns to deliver a few remarkable months of top notch soap opera...

Examples of this historical tradition include "the continuing story of ANOTHER WORLD"; "the continuing story of TEXAS: THE NEW GENERATION!"; LOVING; THE CITY; GENERATIONS; SEARCH FOR TOMORROW; ANOTHER LIFE; arguably THE EDGE OF NIGHT; ditto THE DOCTORS; even a program still with us today, GENERAL HOSPITAL in early 1978.

Coming back to Y&R...I was watching with my mother, and we both were so blown away by today's (THURSDAY) episode, scene by scene, each one featuring characters with real and believable motivations interacting with each other in surpring and complex ways that built the action minute by minute until the final 'good ole days of soap opera' emotional explosion of a scene that we both yelled out loud in sheer soap operatic ectasy. In fact for the past several weeks, every since Genoa City's answer to WWE's Stone Cold Steve Austin, Victor Newman, saved Nikki from the thug by employing the ancient defense technique of a HEAD BUTT that so deceptively over the course of the last couple of months dramatically altered the entire landscape of the whole show, Y&R has been nothing short of THE BEST SHOW ON BROADCAST TV. Period. At first I was describing this phenom as being "like sweeps in the summer", but friends I am here to tell you that what Y&R is doing makes the months of sweeps look like black and white low budget reruns from the 1950's.

In closing, yes I know there is no danger of cancellation for this drama, but something in the past few month not only lit a fire under the writers, producers, and ensemble acting company...no, something set off a nuclear warhead under them all.

Beautiful post, Sedrick. Agreed wholeheartedly.

Absolutely. It just goes to show what happens when you hire truly talented writers. And Lynn Marie Latham is one of the best. Her Homefront is my favorite show of all time.

I started watching Y&R again when Sheila returned last year, and almost quit after she left, but I am SO glad I stuck with it! This is the best show on TV, period!

It's true. Y&R has been knocking it right out of the ballpark lately. These last months go to show why Y&R is #1 in the ratings. Other shows have moments of greatness, but Y&R just keeps bringing it day after day.

When you can tell that Eric Braeden is having fun, you know somethings right.
