So I forgot one glaring example of a "good" character turning cuckoo and doing rotten things - NINA CORTLANDT!!!
It was during Heather Stanford's run as Nina that the character went completely nuts, hiding a gun in her bridesmaid's bouquet, attempting to shoot Donna at her wedding to Benny Sago. She was locked up at Oakhaven, reverting to a child-like state; she later escaped and went on the run with a gun.
The story and Stanford's performance were universally panned at the time, but I find it fascinating to watch now (mostly her performance, not particularly the story).
Have you seen it?? I can't take my eyes off Heather (Nina); she's dedicated as hell and swallows the scenery whole - a similar acting choice Faye Dunaway gives in Mommie Dearest.
It's exhausting and exhilarating and over-the-top and kind of amazing. Lol
