It's something that Access Hollywood has lasted as long as it has. Even back in the day, it was off-brand Entertainment Tonight, a role that was also filled by Extra. And in the '90s, all three of them were getting whupped by E! News.

I always disliked Access Hollywood. It had nothing on ET.

Kind of amazing to see NBCU exit first run syndication entirely.

I agree, with both statements, lol.

Such a surprise, but I guess we all should have seen it coming. I know I haven't watched a talk show on linear television probably since before covid, I know I am not alone. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if NBC exited the late night television market in a few years too. Podcasts and social media have taken the place that all these shows had with an audience. People aren't going to tune into a talk show at a specific time to watch an interview with a celebrity when they can listen to at their leisure a half dozen podcasts that person probably appeared on promoting whatever.

I wonder if any podcasters will start selling their shows to these local stations at some point? That would definitely be something cheap to fill the airwaves with and something different than local news or reruns of some repetitive primetime crime drama.
