Fully agree. I also still cannot accept her as Taylor. It's like Amelia Heinle as FauxVictoria on Y&R.

Does anyone else remember Mary Stuart's one episode stint as Kate, the madame of a bordello in Louisiana who also happened to be Jo's doppelgänger? And I believe Kate was Martin Tourner's former girlfriend. I happened to see that episode when it originally aired, and the idea was quite intriguing. Nothing ever came of it, and no storyline was built around Kate. But I assume the Corringtons were toying with the idea of somehow getting Jo and Kate together -- ala Kathryn and Marge on Y&R.
I'd love to see that episode again, but haven't found it on YouTube. Kate is mentioned during Martin and Jo's first meeting scene, which is on YouTube. When Martin first meets Jo, he thinks she is Kate. This particular scene was available on YouTube as late as about a year ago.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

Same goes for Trent Dolan. He played Private Detective in 1987 and Private Detective Steele in 1988, but I didn't list those roles, just like I didn't list Lester for Jeff Eagle. Mainly because we don't know all the small roles they may have played on Days from the mid 70s to mid 90s, when paperwork and credits are severely lacking for those two decades for many guest roles.

I agree. I like Ted Bessell, and thought he and Mary were pleasant enough together, but his character always felt extraneous and shoe-horned in.
Yep, they went on to have bigger roles and success elsewhere. Place, Marshall and Bessell were all well cast for the MTM roles, but their characters were not really necessary. The six principles (Mary, Mr. Grant, Ted, Murray, Georgette and Sue Ann) were enough.
I found it dark, drab and ordinary too. Her first apartment, however, had had such warmth and flair.
There has been so much praise for the Chuckles episode over the decades. I, too, find it overrated. It's good, I believe, but not a significant standout compared to so many other fine episodes.
Mary's problem with sleeping pills (the ep you mentioned, in which she sits down in the tub only to have Mr. Grant, Murray and Ted all barge into the bathroom) was funnier, IMHO. The Ted/Georgette wedding was great too. And the series finale always guts me. The first time I watched it, it made me ugly cry. Strange reaction to a sitcom, I know. I sobbed throughout a particular episode of Oz, but a comedy show? Hmmm.🙄

I seem to remember a summer 1981 Don Chastain plot about a wrestler. It seemed to have queer undertones. I remember it was a lot different in tone from the prior few years but the clips I've seen recently it looked well lit, produced and acted. Don had never written a soap and Bunim was crazy to put him in charge. The other issue is that Harding Lemay's material had only been airing a few weeks when the strike material started in spring/early summer 81. SFT suffered from a series of head writers similar to The Doctors and I've wondered this before: was Mary Stuart behind many of the writer changes? I think all the shows lost their footing during the 1981 strike. But Chastain's SFT had some high ratings but the show did start to slip.

I've noticed the last day or so that it seems like I keep getting booted out of my avatar and asked to log back in. When I do so, I get an error message. But a simple refresh shows that I logged back in. However, it's been quite frequently. And just wanted to give a heads up or see if an update is also going on. @Errol

My opinion of them was the same as Ted Bessell as her boyfriend - Mary didn't really need them. By that point the heavy focus on her workplace life and having friendships through work felt more logical.
Mary Kay Place and Penny Marshall both lucked out over those roles not working out (even if I find Loretta difficult to watch the further I get into Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman)
That's how I feel too. I loved that apartment. Her new apartment was fine, but felt drabber, too stark, and perhaps a bit too on the nose for the cultural shifts of the late '70s moving away from the last shreds of individuality and hope into something colder.
I think the show still had some strong moments all the way to end, but there was too much focus on repetitive and unpleasant banter with characters like Murray and Sue Ann (I love Betty White but I did not need so much Sue Ann). The show loses some heart. I also think Chuckles Bites the Dust is overrated. The better moments in those last few seasons were quieter, more unique (I like the episode where Mary intended to relax and take a bath but instead Lou barges into her place).

Hoping someone can identify. I think one of them is Michael Sutton! He looks totally different. Steve Burton at the end obviously.
