I can think of things for Carly to do. But it would start with breaking the character down a bit more and bringing on A.J., and we've all been over all that many times.

You have to be willing to shake characters up when they're beyond stale, and GH rarely likes to do that today. The only reason we have the current semi-compelling status quo which includes Willow and Drew is because someone was briefly brought in from outside, by all indications against FV's wishes.

And that (along with the Drew/Nina hate sex) brought so much drama and mess. 

 

Sad to see some of (thankfully not all) it wasted.

I figured. I can't believe they did that to that story. Okay, I can! But I was looking forward to some revenge. Hearst played it well as Ric changed his mind (for now?) but it seems like it's done done. But I'm on the week before last and haven't started this past week yet.

I just can’t imagine Ric of all people allowing them to get away with drugging him for a month and having him handcuffed to a bed.

The thing about Carly is that I don't think she needs her own storyline. For most of 2025, she's really been more of a supporting player in other people's storylines (especially the Michael/Willow/Drew affair), and I think that's played to Laura Wright's strengths. It hasn't felt like Carly is eating the show, as it has in some previous years, even though she's still on at least 3 days a week. Because Carly is already this nosy, rude, chaos agent, it feels organic when she butts into other people's storylines and creates conflict.

Not unlike when they claimed Sasha was Robert and Holly's child after they supposedly fúcked in 1992, while he was married to Anna who had been abducted by Faison. Holly then spent the next 18 months of the show onscreen and in heavy story, definitely not pregnant.

Or when they claimed Cody was Mac's kid with Dominique. They were not together that long and Dominique was, again, onscreen in story from the beginning of that relationship in '91 until her death in '93. Like, WTF? These are major characters.

It annoys me less if there's some interesting story purpose but there rarely is. I know there were delays with the Cody and Mac story due to JJY's health but we barely even see them together. And if the purpose was for the con story with Scott, that also had little impact and needed Serena.

I would still find some way for Cody to be wildly misinformed re: who his mother is and make it some scheming old flame of Mac's from his mercenary days, out to snag the Stanton/Bell fortune. (Yes, I know they said Serena had given much of it away but we can ignore that; she'd come back still rich and a heiress/philanthropist, probably to play off Michael and others.)

I would change Cody's mother as well.  Making his mother an unknown flame from his mercenary days makes way more sense than using Dominique.   Dominique is long dead, Katherine's dead, Scott's gone, Serena is nowhere in sight, and Lucy doesn't care.  At least with unknown mom you could cast someone down the road to stir up trouble for Mac, Cody, and Felicia.  Of course the last thing the show needs is another 50 something scheming woman probably played by an ex-OLTLer.

Lol.  I am sure FH would do great in the role.  The bottleneck of 50-year-old women on the show that are super talented is crazy.  There aren't enough love interests or story to go around for them as it is.

Since they killed Cyrus and Laura didn’t even get to do it, what was really the point of her birth father’s other children? Jagger? Jackie Templeton being Chase’s mother? The return of Pickle-Lila, twice? Jimmy Lee Holt’s dead and here is his soon to be dead son Austin? The visits and references to Loving’s Corinth? Re-naming Jake’s the Floating Rib? Mentioning Erica Kane? Ava Jerome’s mother being Delia?

It’s history used in the most shallow way possible, and I hoped when Ron left it would go away but instead I think it got worse!

I am half surprised the show didn't make Miranda Cody's mom because they actually had a murky backstory and Miranda could have easily faked her death because she was pregnant with Mac's baby and not Jax's.

I could imagine Frank thinking she's part of the Sonny/Brenda/Jax triangle in the 90's and people will like that lol.
