I'm the only one that likes Pamela's wacky ass! I think they need more of her, but I will acknowledge she's turned off many lol. And she used to be redundant in some ways vs. Vanessa, but Vanessa has darkened considerably vs. being a straight-up Lucy Coe comic analogue early on.

No, I like her, too. I just think Transatlantic accent is a bit too inconsistent for my liking. Sometimes it is heavier and more pronounced than it is other times. It needs to be a consistent thing for me to really fall into it.

Watching today's episode and looky, looky!!! That dangling plot thread about Dani drinking too much finally returned into play with people calling her out on it. I felt it was dropped so I know people will be happy to see it brought up again.

Yes!!!  I was happy to see that acknowledged. Interesting how they used Doug's storyline to bring it together, but I liked it!

Oh I like Pamela too! LOL.  She's quirky and different. I just wish we could see more of her, because like others have mentioned, it's odd she's not around or mentioned during certain events (Chelsea's kidnapping, Dani's insta-wedding, etc).

There were a few examples  today but one minor example comes to mind-when Derek returned to the nurses station, Ashley asked 'Have you finished your physical therapy session already'? All she needed to say was something along the lines of "Finished already?"

I cringed at that one too.  I believe literary folks call it "over-writing", when extra words are haphazardly thrown in, making the sentence (or question) clumsy, awkward, and repetitious.

In theory, the dialogue writer should've caught that line when he reviewed his completed script with an editing pen.  Then the script went to a "script editor", who should've caught it if the dialogue writer didn't.  Next, it went to a member of the headwriting team, who definitely should've caught it.  And lastly, it went to the director, who would've scratched out the clunky, unnecessary words immediately.

But somehow, on Beyond the Gates, those glaring errors often slide right through the entire editing process and end up on our TV screens.  Hopefully, they'll become more proficient in fixing them.

  • Bill, you do not regret that passionate, electrifying kiss. That was more electrifying than anything you have had with the child bride. Do not deny it now.
  • Well, news of the marriage is spreading like wildfire, and here comes Naomi to likely rip Andre a new arsehole. Haha.
  • Jacob investigating Douglas' death feels cool, but I am also surprised Marcel was not attached at his hip.
  • Donnell is not taking any prisoners... he is gunning for Joey and the casino. I love it. But careful, buddy!
  • Poor Vanessa is continuing to go through it, and it is absolutely understandable.
  • Joey, sir, what the Hell are you doing? This does not look good for you at all. Nor do I think it will look good with Ms Vanessa.
  • Not the "toe-curling way". Whew. The language is brilliant. These two yearn for each other, and it is beyond apparent. They need to stop tiptoeing around it.
  • Uh-oh, Shanice, you have got to have a poker face about things like that. No bueno.
  • Andre, you will ALWAYS want Ashley. You belong with her. Do not deny it.
  • Whew... Dani continues to speak facts. Offering to adopt a child (and Bill ended up marrying one). Hilarious. Dani went to the ends of the earth for Bill and he went for a petite tart who paid him some beautiful attention.
  • Drake is wearing Douglas' watch? Whew... Drake, this is not looking good for you. Joey is setting your backside up and Donnell's looks could absolutely murder you.
  • Uh-oh. Bye, Drake. Nice knowing you!
  • I know Vanessa is Nicole's best friend, but I did enjoy seeing Vanessa share some interaction with Ted. There is history there.
  • That's it, Naomi... loosen up, and share these memories. Do it.
  • Naomi... I do not think you ate anything bad... but something else is going on....
  • Andre, did you kiss Bill on Dani's lips? And, if so, how did he taste?
  • What is the child bride up to? What news is she about to fake?
  • Well, that was a shock to Vanessa, and I am sure Joey is going to hear about it from her the moment Donnell is not present.
  • Not her trying to fake another pregnancy. Girl, that schtick will not work again.
  • Dun, dun, dun... Naomi is pregnant. Whew.

Notes:

  • Alex Cheeks (Donnell) continues to kick butt on day two of his time in the role of Donnell. This is casting gold.
  • Lauren Buglioli (Vanessa) continues to provide GOLD in her performance of Vanessa's grief and shock.
  • I continue to say the same thing over and over again: the chemistry between Timon Kyle Durrett (Bill) and Karla Mosley (Dani) is electrifyingly palpable.

Well Dani just pretty spelled out Hayley to us. Im ready to see those words come to action.

Are they also hinting that Naomi's pregnancy and Hayley are about to converge somehow  ?

I see your point but adding a stronger Hayley into the mix would create more complications. I just don't think MG has been  served well by the writing and is capable of more.

That  whole miscarriage story was bizarre and had zilch logic or motivation.

I agree. MG isn't the strongest actor, but she's certainly capable of playing better than they're giving her. On paper, that character is fire. In execution, not so much.

As I've said before, BTG has WAY too many "We'll drop this here...and get back to it later...MUCH later" stories. I love the idea of it, but not with so many plotlines.

I know exactly what you mean. Many people have favorite dialogue writers, but usually that's because they turn out something special. Even without the "special," they're always very good on a base level.

We're seeing evidence that some of these dialogue writers fall below that base level and are not capturing characters' tone/essence/vibe. When you say to yourself, "That doesn't sound like ________," it's not good.

One more thing that doesn't help clunky literature sounding dialogue is lack of background music or inappropriate one for the mood of the scene. Something that they also like to do. I've seen scenes where Temu Ronn Moss is talking his clunky lines and there is this somber piano going behind him while he is talking about getting it on with Kat.

I'm not happy with the background music, either. In so many ways, Gates embraces the soap genre, but with the music, it goes for "We're different. We're the anti-soap." I don't think it works.

I wonder if Hayley is going to try to steal Naomi's baby somehow and pass it off as her own.

I definitely had that thought as well especially with they way they cut to Naomi after Hayley and Bill's conversation about kids.

Naomi said on a previous episode that she doesn't want children. I'm betting that she has an abortion and Jacob will not be happy about it (not a spoiler, just a guess).

Unlike the rest of her family, Naomi did approach Andre in a less judgmental manner. She does have legitimate concerns for her mother and didn't harp on the appearances.

Hayley mentioning pregnancy again was an eye roll moment. At this point she is making it more obvious that she feels like she needs a baby to secure Bill.

Re the dialogue. It comes off clunky at times by feeling the need to reference stuff explicitly.

There were a few examples  today but one minor example comes to mind-when Derek returned to the nurses station, Ashley asked 'Have you finished your physical therapy session already'?

All she needed to say was something along the lines of "Finished already?"

Or when Dani said about someone finding out about the marriage through 'the Anita impersonator on social media' instead of just saying 'social media'.

Maybe not the greatest examples but there is a lot of that  stuff that sounds phoney and unnecessary.

Hope you get the gist of what I'm saying.

I call it the Douglas Marland effect because any soap opera he was head-writing had that type of dialogue... which was very unrealistic.
