I don't necessarily dislike Liz/Jason.  I prefer them to Jason/Sam when those wars were going on, but I never felt strongly either way.

Don't worry my board profile pic stays til Vanessa comes back lol.

I know, I know your stance on those two, I had to pick just a lil bit. ;)

And that is good to hear re: Vanessa. So I get to see her one way or the other.

A contract just means the show has secured an actor for the length of their needs. GH and other shows have often abruptly put people on contract not long before offing them in recent years. Sooner or later - sooner, I suspect - he's toast.

Agreed.  I don't see any viability in Chris McKenna as Brennan.  McKenna seems like a nice guy and good for him for getting a contract, but he has no chemistry with Wright, isn't terribly charismatic, and the character is a dud.  Plus, he is not the typical male actor Frank would keep around for years and years.

I feel like Brennan is time waster until the show figures out what to do with Carly.

McKenna is great in certain roles where he can play to his strengths - witty, relatable, earthy, etc. He's still my favorite Joey Buchanan from OLTL, where he aged to adolescence, had key roles in famous stories and was a direct precursor character-wise to Nathan Fillion's Joey. He grew up to be hot. But putting him in stiff suits having him mouth this lousy dialogue and play the type of role he's totally unsuited for is crap. I feel like he just got the job because Mesure left them in the lurch for mysterious reasons (I'm still wondering what happened) and Chris is another of Uncle Frank's old pals. I'm always happy to see him somewhere but this was never it.

Still, Brennan is a worthless character who has always been a placeholder with a limited shelf life, no matter who plays him.

I would love to know what happened with Mesure.  Hadn't he just signed a contract?  Maybe something better came along.

I have always heard positive things about McKenna on OLTL, but I get nothing from him on GH.  I really thought he was a placeholder until they could write out the character.  I actually didn't know he was a buddy of Frank's.  He could be here for the next 7 years now lol.

But the show really needs to figure out something to do with Carly and Brennan isn't it.

I am fairly positive he is. Always have been. But the Brennan character was doomed even while Mesure was there. He was always this rando dayplayer they just latched onto when Jarly flopped again. (And as I keep saying, it is insane they have attempted that twice in five years, watched it tank both times and take half the show with it and yet the same creative team is still in place.)

I suspect there is a real story re: Mesure but I have no idea what it is. Very strange.

I always assumed the original plan was to try Brennan with Anna.   The confidence Korte or whoever had/has that Jarly will work now with the same actors when it flopped the first time is just bold.

And then you kill Sam off (fine by me!), but when Jarly flopped again, Jason and Carly were out of options, and they had to hire KT back and throw Carly with dayplayer.  I suppose they will eventually just put her back with Sonny.

As do I, which is unbelievably depressing to think about. Round 89.

Brennan was clearly conceived in the strike or whenever as the bad guy behind Pikeman, then Mulcahey made him and Valentin accomplices, clearly (IMO) intending to dump both. He even wrote the reveal eps. Once they quickly realized Jarly was doomed they suddenly had Carly visit him all the time, glommed onto a bit of social media interest and tried to make it work - I don't think that was Mulcahey, personally as he was already about to get iced and there was clearly BTS turmoil. But it was never going to last. Brennan is a nothing character regardless of the actor. I always get so sick of these timewaster couples these days.

I'll also call it now: While Steve and KT have real chemistry, Thiebaud is a poor dramatic actress and always has been. The minimal mystique of Jason and Britt for some of the audience (not me!) was its newness and squandered potential. I think once they go all in it will fade fast, and she'll be out again in a couple years.

I don't see much long-term future with the pairing either.  I agree they do have chemistry, but I can't see it working for years or being the next big Jason romance.  Britt by herself is such a limited character and KT has no range.  If anything, I see KT lingering on a few years post-Jason much like Sam did in the background.  Unless, of course, Kelly decides to up and quit FOR GOOD again.

Believe me, it's not a pairing I like.  But it's GH's default especially since neither have had any luck with other love interests lately.

The smart play for Carly would be to bring back A.J. (be it Sean Kanan or someone else) again. But they won't.

Totally.

That was another thing that surprised me coming back to regularly viewing.

I was not for the recast (no offense to Chris who I always loved on OLTL), but they used him a lot more...for better or worse...than they do now. Now he feels like an afterthought and islanded off in that Alias story. Just a complete waste of what little potential the character had.

NOW I too feel like he is just a time waster for Carly. Which this past week, I started to think who could Carly be paired with. Cuz I don't feel...unless I'm wrong...that the writers are doing Nina/Sonny/Carly again given the recent Nina/Sonny scenes I saw.

Yeah, I can also agree that Jason/Britt 1.0 was lightning in a bottle for the same reason that Damian Kane on Y&R worked...it was new and fresh and full of potential. Potential that got squandered for something that never worked in the first place. Or as I called it earlier...an albatross to the show. On this show...the Carly/Jason relationship.

So I don't think Jason/Britt 2.0 will have the same reaction. Moreso if they are already doing propping duties in the writing to make it work. 1.0 worked originally because it was organic and needed no propping. At least from what I remember.
