Hopefully, they were allowed a lot of rehearsal time or multiple takes. Carson Boatman said that he and DF were allowed that for the scenes when Johnny confronted EJ.

Yeah, Phillip was doomed from the start. 😂 The selfishness of everyone involved--and I have to include Elizabeth, because only someone REALLY messed up would believe giving your 12 year old basically up for adoption would be a GOOD thing--was off the charts. One of the rare cases where Alan wasn't at the top of the list.
One other beat Marland missed--Alan finding out the reason Jackie really married him. A guy with his ego would have FLIPPED OUT. Even though he was using her and much as she was using him (being married improved his chances of gaining custody) he probably believed she was crazy about him, at least in the beginning.
I'm sorry, this was such a good story, regardless of believability, because of the complexity of the characters involved and the situation. Some of my favorite scenes are when Alan and Jackie were married. They were SO mismatched, both of them having no idea how to live together as a couple, both using each other, most of that staying in the subtext. Chris and Cindy played the heck out of those scenes. This is why it is so disappointing that we never got the reveals involving the characters who were chucked out prematurely. Carrie Mowery was no match for Cindy Pickett, but I still would have liked seeing Jackie having to face the chickens coming home to roost.

I agree with almost all of this. I do think Ian Buchanan is a good actor. But I totally loathed Duke in every form and every arc. Totally hated him with Anna every time.

Another World Discussion Thread

This is a very silly coincidence, but TCM is showing King's Row right now, and I was thinking about the fact that two of its stars have a connection to Another World -- Ann Sheridan, who played Katharine Corning, and Bob Cummings, whose son (by his third wife) Tony played Rick Halloway -- when Parris (Bob Cummings) suddenly said to Drake (Ronald Reagan):
"Dr Tower said something once: each of us live in multiple worlds."
The echo of "we do not live in this world alone but in a thousand other worlds" made me laugh.

My late mom was watching the show during the early 1970s through the early 1990s so she remembered the Phillip story quite well and even said that even if he'd been raised by Justin and/or Jackie.. he still would have had darker traits based on how bad both Justin/Jackie were in their early years. Being raised by Alan just bought those negative traits out into the open.
Based on what my mom had told me about early Jackie... she was a highly spirited and manipulative daughter of a well known and wealthy doctor that spoiled her. She was known to take whatever she wanted no matter if it belonged to her or not and she did so with Justin when she stole him away from Sara.
When she saw Justin doing to her what she'd done to Sara, she decided to make him pay by keeping his child away from him and decided to basically sell her child to Alan, who wanted to not burden his wife Elizabeth with the news their own baby had been still born. I think Alan did it mostly to keep Elizabeth distracted while he played around.... that type of behavior seemed to repeat itself during his marriage to Hope and how A-M kept her occupied and out of his hair.
Jackie realized she'd made a mistake and befriended Elizabeth and kept in Phillip's life throughout his childhood. It was she knew she'd be staying in Springfield long term is when she insisted Alan/Elizabeth come to Springfield so she could remain in their lives on a more consistent basis.
I think Jackie's character changed/evolved partly based on Cindy's take on the character and also because she'd realized her mistakes plus also being married to Alan changed her.

Yep. Cameron is hilariously fun doing the cartoon villainy tbh, but it could be better. Hence the Jake angle where he could be conflicted, or playing some beats with being wistful about Sam, Danny, etc.

IMHO, Derek turning to the dark side has most likely been in the plans since day 1 of the show.
I know someone in this board mentioned there was an interview they saw where it was mentioned that the first six months were mapped out when production started and that the show pretty much followed those plan. So when I looked at episodes 120/121 (the six month mark), I saw that the plan was still for Andre/Ashley to be end game with the implication being that he was sticking with Dani because she needed him after Chelsea's kidnapping and she was sticking with Derek because he couldn't walk. The scene was presented/acted as if they were being kept apart due to obligations and misunderstandings.. not because they weren't interested in one another.
I think had Andre/Ashley been popular with viewers, the whole Derek faking his recovery angle would have played out a lot longer, but because he and Dani were so popular together, the story ended suddenly. Now the show is regrouping by establishing Ashley as a single woman slowly getting back out into the dating field while a jealous Derek is looking to sabotage it.
Let's see if the writers actually follow through on this new set up, or if they'll drop it like they've dropped so many promising threads when it comes to Ashley thus far.

1-15

Yep. Last week I hoped that it was not a flop. But this week...yeah, the writers have their rhythm again and I'm loving it. This episode was prime A story with other stories going on. And I liked that. I guess my only problem now that we are on Thursday is they still have not looped around to the cliffhanger with Tomas overhearing Kristen Dimera...I mean Hayley.

I've liked that they have been exploring all angles of the Anita's Cancer story. But it was nice to see Anita post-first treatment. And I loved how throughout the episode that you got to see Anita struggle. And there is still her being mean with Vernon. TT is doing great, but I do worry about the overkill of it. But I feel them beats are getting played. As long as other stories are going on, it won't be too depressing. Speaking of...

I'm kinda really excited for Cotillion. It's slowly moving from a background C plot to a solid B plot. We haven't really had a teen story since Ty and his bullying and Samantha's sexual awakening urges. So...overdue. And I do like how this is fleshing out the drama already going on between Ty and Jessica. So I wonder with all of this build-up, are we going to actually see it? Like a Teen story, it's overdue for another event.

Ashley bring GOOD C plot wasn't on my bingo card. I can't believe that she's being somewhat fun again. I loved her scenes with Shanice (so cute that she was out of the gossip loop) and Naomi. It was truly girl talk and the ice cream (while I was actually eating ice cream) took me out. Made Shanice frisky and got her to make a move on Ted. Got Naomi to be nice. And got Ashley ready for a Round 2 with Greyson...who I'm loving her with. And Mmmm Jordi. lol. But...uh oh.

SIDE-NOTE...something else I've noticed. The episodes have gone back to ending on nice little cliffhangers again. And sometimes not just one. Keep going.

So...we might be getting Dark Derek after all. Uh oh now.

I don't know what to think about Hayley. lol. I thought she was sincere when she text messaged Naomi. And Naomi thanking her in front of Bill was well-timed given Bill and Hayley had just fought. Now I wonder...did she plan that? But every scene and thing involving Hayley/Bill/Dani was giving me Kristen/John/Marlena circa 90s DAYS.

The best thing about Eva for me is Ambyr's hair. Kat called her out for being fake. And KAT WAS NOT WRONG. If Ted didn't ask her, Eva wouldn't have done it. Be sincere, bitca.

I can't believe how well June has managed to fit in.

And goodness knows SB and CM really do have superb hate chemistry. And both manage to play that hatred every time they share the screen today even when the scenes has nothing to do with them.

It did. He dropped her with the quickness cuz he already knew he would be second best as soon as Jason arrived. But I give that they (well, PM) grew Drew's change out gradually over a period of time...allowing him to go with his ambition. Even post-PM, they kept to that angle somewhat with Drew wearing a mask. Now that I think about it...when did he completely go 0 to 100? When he finally got into office?
