We really need to learn a little about Ashely's background and what makes her tick, if we are expected to care about her.  The same with her boring boyfriend.  And without a background and motivation, the poor actors have no subtext to play.  Can you imagine playing a role on a soap, and having no subtext to play??  The writers need to let the audience into those characters' heads, so we understand their motivations and begin to empathize with them on some level.

Okay, I propose a deal. You find out about Ashley & then let me know. I'll be busy singing a little tune, "No Time For Ashley."

Given that Dani noted she changed from "Mrs Hamilton to Ms Dupree", I have a feeling that's going to be ENFORCED more heavily.

Agreed!

Well, that's my point actually.  She comes across as boring and uninspired for several reasons.  But one of the major reasons is the audience doesn't know enough about her to care.  If we found out she'd been abused by her father, been divorced three times, lost two children to a mysterious disease, and had a doppelgänger -- we might give a care.  Obviously my examples are in jest, but I think I do have a point.  As it stands, she has no past.  And neither does her boring boyfriend, nor the doctor who gambles.

Well, at least Doug has a gambling addiction & for some unknown reason "Joey" is out to get him, apparently by sinking him deeply in debt.

Besides he & his wife have twins. Twins are always interesting on a soap. It's a rule!

I co-sign to this. Jacob is fine af in a sea of fine men.

I was a little worried they'd forgotten Shanice, who is an incredible find. She does so much with so little, and she makes me forget (a bit) that the hospital set is weird.

That actor is making me realize how much I like the good guy cop on all of my shows because I know I'm nursing a crush on him now. lol. And that says a lot because this show is full of men that are FOINE. Let me...*fans self*

Amen. I love Nosy Nurse! I'm counting the day she pops up outside the hospital set.

I object also to his name. It's not a name for a grown man.

Re: your objection to the character name "Joey", saying it's not a name for a grown man.

What? Plenty of grown men have nicknames that they use regularly.  Maybe his father was known as Joseph or Joe, so he uses Joey to differentiate? Or he wants to sound friendly even though he's not.
Furthermore, many mobsters have nicknames. That's the vibe I'm getting from this ....

Speaking of all of the Victoria Rowell love that we've loved here, yall remember this? One thing I liked about past soaps is how a scene would morph into slow motion when something terrible was about to occur.

Oh, no, today they did what I think is my pet peeve. Kat dreamed or fantasized about Tomâs but we saw it as if it was happening.

Yes, it's true. Possibly narrow-mindedly I dislike Joey's name for the reason I stated. I still don't like Smitty either. They're just quirks, I guess you'd say. But, they are two tiny nitpicky things I do not like compared to absolute hordes of things I do like. They are really eclipsed.

Not Bill trying to pull a fast one!!!

Let me see if I can fix this for you. Okay, not elegant but it sure looks like Bill succeeded rather than attempted.

Decent breakdown from Gregori M (I'm not familiar with their past work) and decent script from Danielle P.

This means tomorrow will be Ron C as breakdown writer and Lynn Martin as script-writer.  Their past collabs have been sort of lackluster, but third time is the charm.

What I liked about today:

- Nurse Shanice adding that extra touch that was missed last week.

- Some good family moments with Dani/Nicole/Andre.

- Chelsea finally taking a stand with her mom.  It seems as though Bill handled raising Naomi while Dani focused on Chelsea... and Chelsea is feeling suffocated by her mother.   Those brief snippets of Chelsea with the guy and his partner showed a different side to Chelsea and I have a feeling that this partly stems from being suffocated by Dani.

- Vanessa and Joey have mad chemistry.  I also like that Vanessa has been toned down and is less flighty then she was in her first appearance.

What I didn't like today

- Ashley/Andre merry go round is back.   I did like that Ashley was mostly used sparingly and got some brief scenes with Dani, Nicole, Ted, and Shanice.

@Mona Kane CroftI do agree that there is no character for Jen Jacobs to play.. but that means that the actor/actress needed to flesh out the character and then the writers can go from there.   Since Ashley knows Dani then it means that she also knows/knew Hayley so a brief scene between them would help bring some conflict to Ashley that doesn't involve Andre or firefighter guy.   Did Ashley choose Naomi because she was also mad at Hayley, or did she pick Naomi because she didn't want to feel the wrath of the Duprees that Hayley has been getting.

- Eva vs Kat was so fleeting, but I hope that Kat backing off is just until she gets some proof and not because she wants to get into Tomas' pants.

- I wonder if the actor that plays Tomas has gotten Botox because his face doesn't move... though it is a beautiful face.

Lastly, the actor that plays the firefighter has starred in some Hallmark Channel movies and it shows in his acting.  Acting on a soap opera is vastly different then acting in a Hallmark Channel movie.  Both are particular styles, but you can't use them on the other.

Bill could be the Victor Newman of this show.

This I disagree on.

His claim (to fame or whatever) I believe is THE BAY.

Yes, it was time. And, this is the right moment for it. If anyone needs to be nipped in the bud it's my girl, Dani. Chelsea just broke it off with her as her "momager" last week & now, 3-4 days later, Dani is literally shoehorning herself into another managerial role in Chelsea's new self-chosen career. Although it hurt for Dani to face yet another rejection. Dani's life right now would be a challenge for anyone.

I think the two actors have it in spades with a lot of people! (Vanessa, Joey)

You got that right!

I think it's the self-confidence that is so big & overwhelming!

I don't mind the hospital documentary thing, but it seems forced and contrived, even more than the sudden labor in the broken down elevator. There had to have been a more organic way to possibly bring Andre and Ashley together.

But I didn't expect Tomas to ask Kat to try and convince Naomi to drop her lawsuit. I'm totally here for it though. This could be a really good dynamic in their relationship and storyline. Eva finding out about it and manipulating the situation in her favor could be really good as well.

And, agreed with everybody that Joey and Vanessa do have chemistry. I'm becoming more interested in the whole Doug's gambling story.
