ALL: With BTG garnering so much attention, should the other networks jump on board the Daytime Train

I think a reboot of GL that is based on the original radio concept could be viable .

A minister and his daughter (Rev Rutledge and Mary) the idealistic young man (Ned Holden)

the embittered artist with mysterious past (Eliis) , the striving immigrant family (the Kranskys) etc.

Update those characters with different ethnicities and give the stories a modern twist and away you go.

A more realistic and issues based soap to contrast/ complement the more glitzy shows.

As much as I'd love to see our old soaps revived in one way or another, I honestly think that daytime needs to look at new material. BTG has gotten all the buzz it's gotten because it's new. A revival of a classic soap might get some buzz, but ultimately, I can't imagine it would have lasting interest outside of its original fans.

IMO, any soap sequels would work best as semi-regular movies/specials, and any attempt at starting over or riffing on a classic soap premise would work best as a primetime series. EON is literally perfect for today's world of 10-15 episode seasons that are released once every year or two. Just don't put Ryan Murphy's hands on it.

On the one hand, @All My Shadows, I agree with you.  The genre needs fresh characters and storylines - and ones that are rooted in reality - if it wants to reclaim its' relevance.  But, on the other hand, I think those who have argued that an EON reboot in particular could be successful today make a very good point.  (As a matter of fact, I'd even go along with an EON reboot that starred an African-American male as Mike Karr!)

You're probably right, although I think the buzz is in part just because it's the first soap to premiere in over 25 years, and it would still have that buzz even if it were tied to an old show.

I agree with those who think the most we will get of old soaps is that AMC movie if it ever actually happens, but a revival of Edge, or, as @Paul Raven said, a show going back to GL's original premise, I could also see working.

The only way for daytime to survive is to get new viewers, but a majority of the viewers are always going to be those who were around in the past. If they could find a way to combine both worlds for some future soaps, I wish they could try.

Of course, I know that's jumping the gun and just keeping this show on is what matters most for the time being.

I think it's worth to remember that shows these days need good elevator pitches and the only ones that I can truly see that with is Dark Shadows and yes, Edge of Night. All other shows are bit "life and times in a X small town where we follow X family's trials and tribulations". They're just not very unique, so you might be better off creating a new show without any baggage of the old show. Though I guess I could continue to advocate for Love of Life with the story of saintly Van's never-ending search for dignity while her dastardly sister Meg keeps getting in her way (cue organ music).

With that said, they were supposedly developing All My Children movies for Lifetime as of last September (?), so I'd assume AMC has a good shot at going to series again if that works out.

I believe in Never saying never. For me it's the wisest approach. I really don't get why we need to repeat constantly how this or that is impossible or won't happen. It just adds to the atmosphere of doom and gloom that has been following soap operas for decades now like a plague. I believe in miracles and I believe that... just like in fashion... people's tastes return to basics sooner or later. And I believe daytime dramas in a way are the OG basics of TV entertainment. Years ago people were saying that there would never be a new soap and here we are... BTG proved them WRONG.

I still think that AMC has the biggest potential. I already said why...  but I'll repeat - it's quintessential soap opera, embedded in pop culture, and there is a reason for it. I agree that Dark Shadows has potential, but it can also go very wrong, because people will compare the new show with the original to ad nauseam. Of course this is meant to happen to any show that is revived, remade and etc... but Dark Shadows has a huge cult following and I would not want to see these people getting their hopes up and... then receiving a pathetic version of the original. If they don't do it right... it can sink pretty fast. You just don't f-ck with people's cult status shows. That's why I think AMC has more room to experiment. It's still iconic as hell, but I don't think I would call it - cult classic. That's just my POV. AMC can be re-started any day and work perfectly if given a great head writer. Mistakes can be more easily overcome than... if people are touching cult-material.

Erica Kane has been the basis of so many soap opera... and even primetime characters, inspired so many similar heroines and storylines, that I think... people would appreciate revisiting the OG version. Following that train of thought - I don't want to sound cynical...  but sadly time is ticking and if they plan to do something they should be doing it in the next couple of years. I don't doubt that Susan may be able to rock Erica Kane in her late 80s or ever early 90s... May God give her eternal health and longevity... she's proven to the world that she can break all kinds of record... but STILL...  I would love to get AMC back when people still remember it and it's still in their memories.
