Agreed, although I will say those Joss/Brennan scenes today might have worked for me if Charles Mesure was still in the role. He had a little twinkle in his eye that suggested he had a genuine soft spot for Joss and Carly. Chris McKenna, on the other hand, seems fundamentally shifty-eyed and untrustworthy, and I'm just counting down the weeks until he and his French assistant lady close down the Port Charles WSB branch and close the book on this whole silly storyline.

If GH is going there with Joss as WSB, I doubt if Chris McKenna is leaving anytime soon. Regardless, I think he's been a good recast. He's not Charles Mesure, but I like him in the role.

My problem is that any WSB agent could look at Joss and think "THERE'S our next agent!" Nothing in Joss' background or past screams WSB.

Joss is too spoiled and too selfish to have a job that requires her to care about anyone other than herself.

This is a worse idea than her being a doctor

I guess lol but all these public servants and LEOs being so content with Sonny will never not be ridiculous.

I think BtG will be better quality than GH, and I think GH has a very set audience, not likely to trample over BtG - many of that show's potential viewers would never go near GH these days. I just feel like the genre is in such a weak state that any of them will be lucky to survive, let alone be in competition. That's more a soap world of 40 years ago. And given how many at BtG helped make GH what it is today, I think people who are expecting a big change may be in for a surprise.

Given how cold and selfish she tends to be, I'd think she'd be more suited for DVX.

I'm not sure here where the surprise would be. GH or BTG?

Do we agree that GH did the Jennifer Hudson talk show because of all this activity?

Right now I think GH does better on Hulu than the Bell soaps do on Paramount Plus, but I'm not sure that predicts a single thing about BTG.

Not sure. I suppose anything is theoretically possible, but why?

I was thinking about your wanting GH or Frank to see commentary about Amanda Setton/BLQ problems. Might happen but also might not. Supposedly Frank said that GH fans on social media are hammers looking for a nail. Which is a fair assessment of the most toxic on Twi/X.

Their regular routine coverage is more like a stroke tally than anything else. I don't know if they're machine done or intern or the social media guy but they're just after total fan engagement.

Frank's posts are not from Frank. That's either his asst. or the social media guy.

There is also subscriber base to consider. It took some digging to find US numbers, but according to what I saw on two media tracking sites Hulu and Paramount+ have significantly more monthly subs than Peacock. That could be a benefit to BtG. Hulu lets us know GH has a loyal following on their platform, and I also don’t remember seeing Y&R in the P+ rankings, so time will tell there.

GH is going to be competition, but folks here are discounting the loyalty of the CBS daytime viewers when it comes to Nielsen houselholds. They dominate from The Price is Right on through.

I don't think GH in of itself is going to be a lot of competition as they likely have different audiences - GH caters to an older, conservative base who are likely disgusted by the idea of BtG - people like that fan who went on a racist rant against GH and Y&R last year. I think that show's biggest issues may just be the issues that have hurt daytime soaps so much, much-discussed - a social media world, many who don't have time now for soaps, or see them as old hat, etc. I wish they had tried a half-hour soap. But CBS asked for what they asked for and I hope they will stand by the show.

I mean I am not sure those who want BtG to be a break from GH will get that full break given that so many who ran GH (into the ground) are working at BtG.

I don't think so. GH still has a lot of non-elderly viewers who watched for Sprina and other things no longer visible there. They stay out of brand loyalty or love for a handful of actors (many of us included). The question is how many will move or watch both.

As for the writing team, I trust MVJ and her crew. Guza has a certain set of skills that make him valuable IMO, but it is Val Jean's show first and foremost. Any people who would immediately worry me are at the breakdown level and have no real creative power. Nor are they dialoguing.

I have a lot of respect for MVJ. I just don't have any trust in the other people involved. I hope it works out.

You're right that the Sprina fans may watch. I was thinking more about the current GH viewers as I assume most of them quit last year, given Trina's treatment. The scene alone of her groveling to Joss and calling herself a bitch would have driven me away if I had mostly been invested in the character or her relationships.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
