In hindsight, it is hard to believe that Dina knew, but John didn't.  Although, I actually only thought about the holes in the plot as I read your post.

Assuming Ashley was born in the early 1960s, which was before DNA tests, or widespread paternity testing, Dina must have known because she slept with Brent around the time of conception.  Furthermore, given that she was so certain, that must indicate that she was not canoodling with John at the same time.  So, nine months, or even 40 years later, why did John never question how Dina got pregnant when they hadn't been sleeping together?  And if she was sleeping with both, how could she have been so sure it was Brent's baby?

I agree with @DaytimeFan. Maybe John was in denial because he loved Ashley so much. That's the only rational conclusion that I can make.

I think John knew deep down, but choose not to do anything about especially after Dina took off on the family.  He became the only stable influence in Ashley's life.

In fact, the long term effects on Ashley after she found out was realistic.  Her sense of self and foundation shaken and never repaired.

And she did the same thing to Abby that was done to her.

How many people on B&B knew Sheila committed the baby switch. Did Lauren ever tell Eric or Stephanie?

I know Sheila threatened to expose Lauren's affair with Brad to negatively impact her custody case. But after Scott died, there was no incentive for Sheila to keep the secret.

Yes, Scott asked Lauren to forgive Sheila on his deathbed, but was that really incentive enough to hide she was misdeed especially since she kept doing bad things.

Of course on DAYS Bill Bell years, the most famous secret was Mike's paternity. The audience knew, Bill knew, Laura knew, Tom knew, Kitty found out & tried to blackmail Bill. In show time it was only 8 years but because of SORAS it was much longer. The crux of the matter was that Mickey was sterile. So when it finally came out, he was devastated. So much so that he blamed his brother & shot him. Then he kinda lost his mind & forgot who & what he was. Poor Mickey. He wandered off. His belt buckle said MH. So he went by Marty Hanson. He met Maggie & went to work for her on her farm. Bill Bell was a genius, maybe an evil genius. Pat Falken Smith told him it would never work, there was no way Laura would fall for Bill, not be in love with her rapist. He said just you wait & see. Bill & Laura fell in love, married, even had a second child, Jennifer Rose.

Lauren revealed everything to Eric and Stephanie. I remember it clearly. I was waiting for it to happen. This was just 10 episodes before Sheila took the entire family hostage.

P.S I recalled the episode - here it is. Lauren tells them around the 10 minute mark.

What the woman knows about when she got pregnant, timing-wise, can be very different from what is apparent to the man. And gestation can have a bigger range than you might think because it is calculated from the last period and not when conception actually occurred. There's a range of about 4-5 weeks that is considered normal full term.

If Dina last had sex with John not long before one period, with Brent after it, and knew she was pregnant pretty quickly, she could have sex with John again in order to be able to persuade him he would be the father when she revealed to him that she was pregnant a couple of weeks later. That could eat up all 5 weeks but it wouldn't necessarily be obvious to John.

Brittany on AW for example slept with Catlin, confirmed she was pregnant, and then seduced Peter and persuaded him to make an honest woman of her. When she went into labour she loudly announced how extremely premature her baby was. Of course Peter wasn't fooled for long but Brittany also lost time having to get him into bed that probably Dina wouldn't have had to worry about with John.

I'm seeing elements of two future Bill Bell storylines. B&B Thorne shooting Ridge in the aftermath of finding out that Ridge and Caroline became involved and then not remembering, and Y&R Victor meeting Hope in Kansas.

If what was said about Corday beginning modern digitizing of the archive about a decade ago, then all of the Bill Bell years should be ready to be streamed. (Although they had a fire & lost the second season & I'm not sure if Bill Bell was writing that season. If so, one of his years could be the missing one!) Anyway, so many people join you! They would love to see the Bill Bell/DOOL years. I mean the show was due to be canceled & he saved the show! What higher compliment can be paid?

If I'm not mistaken, it was during Maria Arena Bell's run on the show.

To this day, Phyllis still thinks it was Sharon since all she saw was the back of Christine's head.

Also one of my favorite secrets never revealed.

    • I’m not speculating anything, but I admit, I’m getting a little worried about James Reynolds.
    • I feel like this is what they're doing by creating lots of storylines but their biggest weakness for years is the inability to properly pace these stories and give resolution. A good example now would be the Gio story which has been simmering for months with very little movement. I went from not caring to being invested to not caring again because of how long it's taking for the secret to be revealed. One story like that would be fine but it seems like everything moves at this snails pace on GH. They need to do a better job of rotating the stories so everything isn't in that same treading water phase.
    • However, those of us who watch DAYS have been spoiled. On Peacock there are no preemptions. Not for anything & not in or about any show.  I read somewhere that we Baby Boomers in a way invented instant gratification but then we realized that it was not fast enough.
    • The title track from the follow-up album Hot On the Trail is also co-written by Val Jean:

    • I read an interview with Lenore Kasdorf and she had said was asked back to GL in 1987 but she turned it down but she said now with Michael (Roger) and Maureen (Holly) back, she would be more interested in returning. This had to be around 1989 and I think in SOD (more of a where are they now? type of article)
    • Beyond what was listed, I think there are a few other moments early on - Nixon tested the waters of having a black female character in a larger supporting part on AW, helping to pave the way for Carla and Sadie on OLTL. Rachel/Ada is in some ways a template for Carla/Sadie, although Carla was much more tormented and her scheming was from preservation.  Jordan Charney eventually arrived at OLTL after his AW success, although that was not duplicated. Doris Belack's success was, several times over.
    • Jonathan Kellerman has written 40 novels centered on the character of Alex Delaware, with the first being When the Bough Breaks from 1985. One of the aspects of the series which I find so appealing is that characters grow, evolve and change as time goes on. They act and react in a believable, human fashion. While each book tells one complete story, certain relationship threads can continue as the series evolves. Occasional references to the past (from previous novels) also make the readers feel like we know the characters intimately; that we are "living" with them through the years. Actor John Rubenstein (of the 1970s' TV series Family) narrates the audiobooks, and he is perfectly cast. I've never read or listened to an Alex Delaware story which I did not enjoy.
    • This was me! I finally got caught up yesterday and even then, I still may wait until Friday to binge these two episodes. I find that I can watch GH in the background because the pacing is so slow but I must be able to devote my full attention to BTG because so much happens.
