The hiring of Bree Williamson as Claudette was so.... weird to me. And very much a "Hey, this is someone I worked with and am giving them a job, even though they were leaving the last show I worked at!"

And, I cannot help but wonder how Jessica Tuck would have worked opposite Cynthia Watros, because she did well against Michelle Stafford (which is not a difficult task).

It felt so random. She has this bizarre name, is the ex/whatever of not one but two incredibly boring males (the forerunners of Chase, who is only slightly less boring than both of them) and it's another OLTL star. Just the dumbest idea I'd heard in awhile, and classic overcomplication c/o Passanante and Altman. It later got even worse with Valentin's even more convoluted origins, which rival Miles Laurence from OLTL (who has a similar background).

JPS is only still with the show because FV inexplicably considers him a major get and tilts the show's schedule and storytelling around his primetime outs. (JPS is on a kind of contract-adjacent recurring like several key Sheffer-era ATWT stars were, including IIRC Cady McClain as Rosanna.) Like that endless period where Anna, Lucy, Valentin, maybe others were all hanging out at a house out of town pretending to be dead to trap someone while JPS was off doing some other show. I think the last several writing teams were also in love with the character, or at least Altman/Passanante and I think Korte were/are. It is beyond me.

I don't understand Pikeman at all either. Mulcahey made it make sense for me with Valentin and Brennan, but then he quit/was fired and suddenly Anna is saying Brennan covered his tracks with the WSB and pretended he had been undercover to stop Pikeman in order to escape prosecution. (Except I think the show now wants us to believe dayplayer Brennan actually was undercover and is a great guy after all.)

It was baffling because if she was Frank's buddy, why was there no plan for the character?  Or why was it such a bad character?  I swear every single day a new secret came out about Claudette and her past and I sometimes wonder if FV was intentionally sabotaging her lol.

Same.  I tend to forget Jessica Tuck played Chad's mom on Days too!

Bree Williamson is definitely an acquired taste.  Someone will have to explain her appeal.

I don't think Bree is untalented. She was never my Jessica Buchanan but she has some talent. But she also has a limited range, and OLTL learned that the hard way but kept leaning into giving her bad stories, or they'd skew her important character's personality around her range instead and those would be equally bad stories.

With a better writing team and the right kind of character (maybe another scheming doctor, a la Lisa Niles but y'know, not Lisa Niles), in another era, BW could've done okay on the show. But by the time she was foisted on the GH audience they were already very tired of OLTL performers in unnecessary roles, and yet there were still more to come. The whole thing where Frank kept giving the (previously) little boy who played Sam Manning airtime as Boy Scout Wyatt, even making him Jake's BFF as this sweet kid aged up to adolescence and clearly was not an actor and was just wanting to go do ice hockey or whatever IRL was mortifying lol.

"Bizarre" doesn't even cover it.  There hadn't been a "Claudette" on any soap since AMC, and that was way the hell back in 1980.  But it seems like GH has struggled with naming characters appropriately since the end of Guza.  I halfway expect a "Maybelline" to pop up any day now.

I think Claudette married Nathan to get her American visa because she was French Canadian and wanted to live in New York?  That's.........not even interesting.

I don't know how anyone think JPS is a catch lol.  The only time I thought he was mildly popular is when he was paired with Nina.

Yeah, I still don't know if the Pikeman story is over and I definitely couldn't summarize the details coherently at this point.

It was part of the whole weird French-Canadian fetish thing Ron or Frank or whoever started with Nathan West. Someone on staff either got off or caught onto the audience getting off (usually Ron in those days, who was Very Online and would write in responses quickly) on wooden Ryan Paevey's flawless French pronunciations, so he started doing it onscreen all the time. Suddenly his ex-wife(??) is "Claudette Beaulieu".

As I said on the other page, I still think it was an outgrowth of RC's likely plan for Stavros and Lulu having a rape mutant child c/o surrogate captive Robin or something. Instead, the next team gave Lulu a rape mutant spawn created via Valentin and Bree Williamson. Hooray!

    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
