Monday US - featured Y&R's GOATs:

Victor, Nikki, Nick, Sharon, Phyllis

Jack, Ashley, Traci, Jill, Christine

Some great visuals: Nikki piano, the ground shot of Lauren's legs, the long view of Christine/Daniel (camera between the other people eating), Jill/Victor scenes, Sharon climbing the stairs, etc. These are all noticeable improvements.

Oh, it wasn't just me then that noticed that. Yay!!!

And...don't forget the overshoulder shot of Victor over the piano as Nikki played. Cuz I was thinking if there was enough space over by the piano after that lovely shot of Victor coming down the stairs. And BOOM! there it was!

I watched today and thought it was a good follow up to Friday. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ashley is home! Jill is home and looking fierce and not backing down to Victor! Jack finding out Diane is working with VICTOR?! First his son, now his wife who has her own very long history with Victor.

Happy to see Traci and Alan.

The camera angles and movements are getting much more interesting. The show never truly fully recovered to its Pre-Pandemic style. But now it feels like someone is actually trying.

I despise that that  psycho Phyllis  is actually right about Sharon. I hope somehow we’re faked out and someone else did all of this to Sharon.

3 for 3 on good episodes in a row!!!

There was so much giving that Y&R feel. The opening alone with Victor coming down the stairs with Nikki playing the piano. And there was this awesome angle of the camera over Victor's shoulder as he stood by the piano watching Nikki play. As mentioned, there was another one of Daniel/Christine at the GCAC with the camera aimed past a couple eating. There was Jill appearing halfway through the episode before the 30-minute commercial break...which REALLY took me back to the good ole days when it happened all the time on Y&R...when a fan favorite would show up halfway through the episode...making episodes Must-See TV. Even how the scenes at Crimson Light with Sharon and Nick played out felt more psychological in nature due to the camera angles. I felt that!!!

Speaking of which...I GOT MY WISH, YA'ALL!!!! ASHLEY...IS...BACK!!! I love that she got the opening along with Victor/Nikki. I love that it seem they expanded out the Abbott front door entrance. Eileen Davidson definitely seem a bit nervous at the start of the episode, but relaxed as the episode went on. And she always slays in red. That said...I didn't like her jacket. lol.

Speaking of clothes...JILL!!!!!!!!! The hair (all I needed was a diva hair toss...just ONE!!!). Her make up. The wardrobe. The styling. I know everyone mentioned Y&R got a new designer...are we sure they aren't there yet? Because I felt that Ashley jacket was new. And Jill looked FIERCE AF. MTS in the blue was divine as well. But all the females looked great this episode and it was very noticeable like last Thursday's episode where SW and MTS were giving.

And it was clear JW and EB were glad to see each other. And I'm here for Hurricane Jill vs Victor. Those scenes were so great. And I know Victor didn't think he was going to make Jill back down or come for Billy without Jill coming for Adam. LOVED IT!!! JW looked sooo good!!!! Now...go whack Billy next, Jill!!!!

Wow. At the Phyllis vs Sharon stuff. It is finally moving again. And I agree with @soapfan770. It is starting to give crazy Giggly Heffa in the hotel room circa 2012. Like I mentioned above, the camera direction has improved the story now because now it's coming across with more energy and more of a psychological thriller vibe going on in terms of Sharon. Her vs Nick and Nick starting to pick up on Sharon being a little crazy was intense for once. And meanwhile, Sharon storming into the GCAC and sneaking up the stairs was so well done.

We know I'm here for seeing Traci and Alan. And I was curious about how Alan and Ashley would interact so good to see that outside of evil twin, Alan and Ashley still come across as friends. But ooooooo at Jack finding out Diane is working with Victor.

And before I forget...'Beautiful. The music was beautiful, too.' HAHHAAHAHAHA Oh, Victor. Hehe. But EB was smooth.

Very good throwbacks.

That occurred to me as well re: Victor's kids all in one place. That is soooo rare so it does stand out more. I just thought that was me. lol. It also didn't help that Victor started his speech before Adam even show up so I just figured he was not going to show.

Yeah, I can give JG that at least. When he tries for nostalgia, he actually does a good job. But he just needs to try for MORE.

Yeah, this week actually got a promo so I suspect it will be a good (and dramatic?) week. I know I can't wait to get home to watch. It's been a minute since I've had that feeling.

I am on board with everyone else's comments about how much production has improved -- the ranch set, the lighting, the pretty much everything.

A couple points:

-- Even though the new costume designer isn't yet credited, the fact is that Jill Walton was styled incredibly on her return. Makeup and hair and wardrobe were 100% better than when she last appeared. Ashley's return outfit was also fire.

-- I loved the scene with Nikki playing the piano. However, while I can forgive not showing Nikki's hands on the keys until the end, production needs to do better with the sound -- making sure it doesn't seem as if the piano tune is coming from offscreen. That was a miss for me.

-- Have very much enjoyed seeing more characters in any one episode, making the show seem richer and fuller.

-- And are we getting more sets per episode? I can swear the past couple eps have given us more sets.

-- I really want more of those old music cues. They enrich every scene in which they're used.

-- Anyone else notice Christine and Daniel eating at the GCAC. I was glad to see real food on the plates other than salad, for one thing.

I did have to laugh that from one scene to the next, the pastry rolls looked like they were torn into and devoured, but the eggs were never touched. By the last scene, Christine and Daniel apparently inhaled those scrambled eggs even while leaving half of their fruit.

I expected this to be a slower day low-key given that the special episode is tomorrow. So I was happy to have a feast for the eyes.

This time around I got the aforementioned Nikki touching the glass scene that was mentioned above. There were also the opening scenes cutting through three settings I believe, and the camera swooping in steadily which I love...and I guess that's going to be how it is in the opening of each episode then. Well...GOOD. When Phyllis threw down the phone on the table was another one. And then her closing scene at the end of the episode which gave old Phyl as well as old Y&R. And they done extended out the hotel rooms now, too. And there was a little extra in the little hallway I was talking about during 11-8 as well as Victoria went to get tea for Nikki. And lest I forget...I saw you do that little hair toss, Jill.

Just a feast for the eyes again with so much atmosphere again and vibrant colors and things that catch your eyes. I'm starting to feel spoiled, and we haven't gotten to the wedding yet.

I'm shocked to say it but I think my highlight was Phyllis vs Sharon. Sharon not only stepping into her crazy, which is bringing out her bitca...much, much, MUCH needed when dealing with Phyllis. I almost thought Sharon was about to slap her at one point. Meanwhile, Phyllis was matching that crazy. And I honestly didn't think Sharon would be caught in the room until the end of the episode. But 10 minutes in? I gasped. But I love a good catfight, and I felt they both gave as good as they got...until Sharon passed out. And then from there, SC was channeling Kristen Dimera for me circa 1996/7 DAYS when she would play being nice to the characters, but the audience knew she was faking it cuz the hatred/rivalry was clear. Sharon has edge again. And Poor Chance. He told off Phyllis and then turned around and told off Sharon. I guess I am here for the Tale of Two Crazies then now that the storyline is moving again.

Then there was Jill vs Victor. I enjoyed every minute of it. And Victor trying to use Jill's visit with Snapper and her medical condition against her. Loved Jill reminding Victor he ain't no spring chicken, either. And they still had mad respect for each other...as Victor showed by thanking Jill for returning to town to be at the wedding. It goes without saying JW looked fierce. I do feel Jill folded too easily. Then again, there is the next shoe to drop since Billy managed to get Lily to come back to Chancellor (as everyone BUT Billy calls it) with a written promise and NO Phyllis. And that was what Jill wanted so I don't know what her next move will be...stick with Billy/Lily or give in to Victor? So intrigued.

Also intriguing...Billy vs Devon. I was Team Devon. lol. I know Billy ain't over here stepping to Devon when all Devon is doing is backing his sister and knows Billy ain't nothing but an a$$hat. I enjoyed all too briefly that argument. Devon even had a little bit of swag in that clear marking territory scene.

So...good episode. Phyllis is biting off more than she can chew by setting that trap. So going to blow up in her face even though she's right.

Oh, I almost forgot...love the coda with the closeup on the birthday cake. But I enjoyed the Ashley/Abby scenes today for obvious reasons.

JW was serving up some grande dame diva fierceness. Jill needs to be back full time and be Genoa City's grande dame. It's something that feels natural at this point.

    • FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEKS OF 12/10/73-12/14/73 & 12/17/73-12/21/73:

Please register in order to view this content

FAST WEEKLY WEEK OF 12/24/73-12/28/73 NOT AVAILABLE (Note: Per newspaper listings, the only scheduled preemptions were 12/25/73 for Dinah's Place and Baffle (preempted by Christmas Service from Washington National Cathedral). All other daytime shows were scheduled to air every day this week). That's a wrap for 1973!  Coming next are the 1973 specials, the spot checks of the 1973 non-soap daytime shows and a look at the 1973 Saturday & Sunday morning/afternoon series.
    • KMH was annoying AF as Emily or as I call her "Emiloon" that screech crying yikes, so bad
    • spoiler alert AMC...   Ha..this is one of those storylines, much like the Salem Stalker...and whatever Alex was supposed to be holding over Alan's head that Henry knew about...what was the original intention of the through line..who is Mary Bauer and why does Meta know Zach (I know what Zach is supposed to be but was he human before...is Chele a reincarnation of Mary? )Eventually was he supposed to become human? Why is he so dull if he who is supposed to be...but it does make sense on why he is so sexless.  Of course, what the hell was the burial ground storyline of Qualo..it was like they were trying to reenact the 80s with that  temple storyline Marland gave them...would have been more interesting to have Stacy come back with "return from the dead" Silas Crocker in disguise as an older lover.  McTavish is at loose threads here and you can tell she just does not give a damn anymore.  A great idea is hidden in the whole Roger/Dinah/Hart mess....Roger having a midlife crisis and breakdown would have been good...being confronted with all of his misdeeds, the two rapes, and also his murders (the show always likes to forget that he pushed a woman down the stairs and had to have killed people in the CIA.) Maybe something he does accidentally causes Holly to miscarry, and then he does something again accidnetly to hurt Hart so he thinks he killed him.

    • OMG! Not Lily vs Phyllis with Amanda giving the sip tea look!  The Dru came out in Lily!!! lol.
    • I remember, for their wedding, TPTB pulled out the old Stewart patio which had not been seen for years (and was not seen again). But during the 1960s, Ellen and David's patio was seen somewhat often during the summer months.
    • OMG! Yes!! Best of the episode and double so after my rewatch. She got Anita ALL...THE...WAY...TOGETHER. I can't wait to get caught up and see Sharon.   Now you.  re: Samantha.   Same. I was so annoyed with Month 2 for stalling on Martin's Secret, but in hindsight...that was perfect because I got used to their characters and their lives so NOW I feel so much more invested when the Secret comes out. And how it's been done as a slow burn during May Sweeps with Bill toying with them keeps Bill in villain mode while giving organic conflict for Martin and Smitty due to what's been written for them building up to this month. Bonus...it's clear the actors are soooo much more comfortable with each other.    The one thing that I looove about Vernon is that while that is very much true what you said...when need be...he shows very brief moments of an edge. CHOOSE SILENCE...like BE STILL...lives rent free in my head. lol. I can't wait to use that on someone.  You wouldn't be alone in that. While not perfect...and haters are going to hate...if you get enjoyment even with flaws, why does anyone have an issue with Pollyanna? I see people are enjoying GH, and I have well documented reasons for liking and disliking it. And I don't at all hate on everyone who have been enjoying it and regularly watch it. It's like seeing a tweet you don't like on the Twitter. You see it, have no need to add to it, and keep scrolling.  Same. But tbf...is ANYONE screaming that now...or just naturally liking the show?  Same. But I am a sucker for bangs.
    • The last thing I want on a new soap -- or on any soap -- is an actor thinking she's a kid in a candy store. I know Cady has plenty of fans, but I'm just not fond at all of all these accents (and accent changes) and tics. The show should INSIST she settle on a consistent character for Pamela -- now. The idea that these established soap actors get to play around like it's a game is bizarre. I don't like what she's doing at all, and the fact that I can't tell you what she's doing makes it even worse.   The hour does fly by, and I do enjoy the show. I'm no longer on a high with the show and screaming "I love this show!" though. That's not a bad thing. We can't forget we're still in the first 6 months and every soap had to deal with first-year struggles and changes. I'm willing to give GATES time on all of it. In the meantime, though, I have to call out the stuff that isn't working. Yo're exactly right about the editing. Those "sudden drop offs to commercial"? I hate them. I think they're awful and poorly executed in all phases -- the timing, the music, the fade itself. I have no idea what they're doing. I've said this before: I think it's intentional. It's not just one director, and it's clearly a production choice. I think they want to be "the different soap." Sorry, this ain't the place to do that. They have not only ruined scene endings galore with these fades, but they have ruined cliffhangers. Ending a show with something dramatic followed by an "Oh, well" fade makes no sense to me.
    • I'll say this much...for the most part...soaps WERE giving this Sweeps...LOL. I'm looking at you, BTG, DAYS, and YES GH.

But knowing that, I really want to know...especially since I'm behind on at least two of those soaps lol due to work and faulty technology...how would you all grade May Sweeps this time?   A     B     C     D     F       To paraphrase Dani Dupree...the hottest level of Hades...?   How did you like Sweeps?
    • 5-26   My system went down, but thankfully is back up. It's a shame that if I missed something, I just don't care. So May Sleeps indeed. smh.    That said...I found this episode intriguing. Yeah, it had a LOT of the characters that I didn't care about. And I know @slick jones probably glared seeing his man around that girl,

but I will give credit where it's due.    It must be a sign there is about to FINALLY be story movement when we start to get artistic camera angles again...something that has been absent for a while. The overhead sweeping into the scene at the start of the episode? LOVE. Good to see Ed Scott is still around somewhere. And I loved what Phyllis had on and Amanda in the red. Claire continued to have her own style and Holden continued to look hot. And I continue to be in awe that the designer is trying her darnest to get Kyle from looking so stuffy but still keep him suited.    Everything Audra continued to intrigue. And I continue to feel that Kyle is totally going to fall into her trap because he is much too cocky. Holden is a great wild card, but I don't like him hinting that perhaps Audra actually have feelings for Kyle. THAT boat has sailed and would have been better used when Summer was around. Besides I love Audra with Nate.   Phyllis vs Sally will always be awesome. And they were both giving great lines.    I could care less for Billy.
