The Covid protocols also didn’t help production matters and I think they just stuck to some of those “quick fixes” long after things subsided.

Not just the lack of the overnight set crew, but there's where they got into the habit of making the scenes very static (because they were literally holding a rope so they'd stay six feet apart) and they kept a lot of that awkward staging well after protocols were lifted. It can be really apparent in group scenes. Then you add in the lack of extras, also a holdover from COVID.

It makes you wonder how they even found money to re-do that Newman Ranch set or how they got that approved.

Seems like they’re smarter ways to work around the budget limitations, but no one cared or put any thought into it. That’s probably why Ed Scott is back on board in the first place - they needed someone with keen production expertise to navigate the resources they have.

They seem to have enough money to make sets (or redress them) when they want to... the Italian palazzo for Victoria and Ashland's wedding, Ashley's apartment in France, Aunt Jordan's house. But once they're up they use them and then they come down. The problem is with switching sets around. They need to do more taping out of order like GH does so they can get more use out of each time the set is up. That's really what I want here, is for Y&R to look at least as good as GH. I'm not looking for any miracles.

Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) just confirmed they're happy he's back on set, stating he tweaks scenes when needed and runs to the floor when something is done right. The energy on set is positive with him on the set.

Yep, sounds like Ed’s style.

That’s good to hear! If he can’t do anything about the writing at least the show will hopefully look nice again!

Hopefully he'll have a word to her about toning down her schtick...

Stafford’s comments are 35 mins in:

I wonder what she means by Scott “tweaking” the scenes - that tells me that everyone realizes the material is not good and Scott is specifically there to try to enhance it somehow. Hoping this is the last effort to save Griffith’s ass and he’s gone at the end of his contract, if so.

I guess Ed isn’t wasting time making some changes, MTS said on the red carpet of the 13k episode celebration that they have a new costume designer, who she calls “amazing.”

David Zyla was the customer designer over the past few years.
