On the plus side, at least Steve thought to ask Clyde about how John wound up in the same place as F-Abby.

I hate it when a villain is confronted and characters forget to ask the obvious questions.

On the other hand, I have no idea why Melinda would care if Gabi loves Stefan, while being tied to a chair with a head wound!

Gabi, what are you praying for? You know you ain’t going to Heaven

Today was broken down very strangely. I thought it was a little odd that the bomb went off at the beginning of today’s episode. That would have been the perfect Friday cliffhanger. And it would have been better than the sort of cliffhanger that we ended up getting. If they had waited, it could have allowed other characters to get caught in the blast as well, like Jada or Chad and NotAbigail, for example.

I also find it odd that Stefan, Ava, everybody couldn’t take down this bumbling little sad sack with a tiny knife. But whatevs, just glad that this storyline is ending.

And if today indicated that we’re going to get an actual EJ/Gabi pairing, I don’t mind it. I just wish they hadn’t rushed it.

Mark didn’t seem to fit in with today’s episode though, but it was nice to see him. He meshes well with other characters. I just feel bad about who he’s (probably) gonna be paired with

Speaking of that pairing, we haven’t seen that character in a while and it’s been great lol the way he’s been shoved down our throats, you’d think Days would be lost without him. Hopefully, Janet or the new writers see that and take action.

I cannot imagine DAYS of the past using Connie as the big summer story.  I guess it advanced Stefan/Ava and EJ/Gabi, but only through trauma.  What's missing is two romantic characters solving a crime together.  30 years ago, Tripp and Wendy would've spent the summer solving Li's murder, dancing in an abandoned room, learning to trust each other.  Now, they're off in the Far East and a forgotten footnote to this plot.

And don't get me started on why Connie would go to Ava's rather than leave town.  I liked my own idea that Connie's “superpower” was that she was so plain in a town of stunning people that she was practically invisible.  But, her trip to Ava's meant that she had to walk through the Pub with a knife, unseen, and get up to Ava's room.  She also had to know where Ava lives, and she had to know that she was alone.  I understand that Connie is meant to be psychotic, but that doesn't mean that she's also psychic.

Finally, the multiple contrivances to separate Chad and F-Abby so she can whine about her plan are silly.  She tells him she remembers something, he says wait so that the kids are in their rooms.  She recites her vows, he's so happy that he leaves the room to take a call.  It defies logic that he keeps leaving at these key moments.

I am glad this Connie story is coming to end.  I know she's CRAZY, but the escalation of her crimes made little sense.  She killed Li, what, almost a year ago and got away with it.   She wasn't on anyone's radar.  Why not just skip town with cardboard Li and move on?  I don't really get why she went from accidently killing Li to a serial killer.   I didn't exactly need more Connie, but some work to show her deteriorating mental state might have helped this story be more believable.

But, Johnny is so boring! Someone that boring it's their own damn fault they don't have exciting challenging story!!! And, Chanel is stuck with him, so that taints her with the bor-ing brush, as well. If Johnny didn't have his looks, no one would even give him the time of day. There they are, two fairly pretty people, just stuck & at an age when they ought to be living it up. And, Johnny actually has a gooey moral center. He nails his father on less than ethical things fairly regularly but does ANYONE appreciate his ability to express high ideals?! Are you kidding me? Tripp & Wendy were more interesting, at least some of the time, anyway. And, Chanel was a much more interesting person with Allie than she is with Johnny.

Since Gabi got out of prison, she went to see her daughter once, right? No mention since that early day, correct?

So, y'all promise Connie's gone soon, huh? I absolutely positively cannot wait! I am frankly amazed at how bad her story got before finally coming to this somewhat distressing conclusion!!! Was she created by scabs or by Ron? I don't post as much now because I'm on a totally different watching schedule. By the time I watch today's episode, tonight at 11-ish y'all have long since done a whole post mortem on the day, so I am waaaay out of synch.

Just saying hey today.

Johnny and Chanel suffer from a lack of character definition.  They need a motivation, and they need a purpose.  Even if they were just this generation's Tony&Anna and only wanted to fulfill their selfish needs, while commenting on the plebeian lives of those around them, it would be something.  But, to me, they are boring because they have no agenda.

I grow tired of stories where the conflict is external to the relationship, rather than an internal dynamic that complicates the ability to form a lasting commitment.

I realize Alex, Xander, Tate, and Johnny can't all be rich guys with complicated senses of morality, but we require some means of telling them apart.   And when you add in EJ and Brady, the whole town is just men from wealthy families, who aren't driven by achievement, waiting for a girl to kiss them.

Johnny and Chanel are boring because there’s no investment or interest in them. They’re in the same boat that Tripp and Wendy were in, once they finally got together.

The four of them could have been in a messy quad but Ron and co. didn’t take the chance with them. They can blame budgets, guarantees, availability, whatever, but it’s so obvious that if they had wanted to make it happen, they could have.

As for current storylines, Chanel’s miscarriage would have been the perfect catalyst to cause problems for her and Johnny. One of them could have wanted to have another baby right away, while the other one didn’t. You could have also had EJ or Paulina pressuring either of them for a grandchild. Which leads to a lot of disagreements and arguments between the two of them, which then pushes Chanel to have an affair, as opposed to this Body&Soul crap and Johnny just being jealous about Alex.

The fact that both of them are completely fine after losing a child is ridiculous.

    • I love many things about BTG very much. For me, it's greatest strength is how the family relationships are so beautifully written. The deep love between family members while acknowledging each other's flaws--it's SO GOOD.  The best of the best is the two sister relationships: loving but very different sisters Dani and Nicole and adversarial sisters Kat and Eva. These two relationships can anchor the show for many years to come, in my opinion. (The one caveat is that the young and very talented Colby and Ambyr may want to leave the show sooner rather than later, but that's to be expected). My biggest problem with this show is this: Where are the romantic love stories? Where are the star-crossed lovers? Almost every character on this show is married, or in a committed relationship, or just fooling around. Right now the only potential for this are in the Ashley/Andre/Derek and Kat/Tomas/Eva situations. Like a lot of people, I feel the sooner they ditch Ashley and Derek, the better. I hate picking on actors, but the characters are so blah and bland it's like they're a parody of soap characters. I like Andre, and there's some indication they might have him become more serious about Dani, but I don't see that becoming a big love story. I could be wrong. Kat and Eva fighting over a man would be amazing. Over Tomas? No.  I've noticed on social media some people are starting to ship Kat and Jacob. I think that shows how much viewers long for a messy love story. There is much I enjoy about BTG and I have no intention of bailing on it. But over all my many years of watching soap operas, the thing that always got me the most excited about them was the question: "When are those two finally going to get together?"

Some initial thoughts.   1) a Who's who back in the day with an assortment of well known performers. 2) Surprised Debra Messing would agree to play a conservative character 3) Not surprised a network didn't pick this up because showing a conservative that is human/likable is a no no in Hollywood LOL
    • Yes from when they went on Let’s Make a Deal too. Pam stole Forrester designs for Jackie M. Of course a month later we saw Nick, Lesley, Owen, and Bridget all exit in the same episode.
    • Great pairing that seemed to come out of the blue! Around that time, it felt like Sheffer/Goutman didn’t really know what to do with Emily or Hal. And KM and BH had surprisingly great chemistry. It was good for Emily especially because she was coming off those unsympathetic years with the Tom affair and then running the Intruder and essentially just being a busybody.
    • I think the issue with Lulu is less the character (which was the issue in the Julie Berman days under Guza II) and more the lack of nuance. The current GH team rarely writes nuance for any character or at least can't sustain it for long, or they reserve it for a favored few. I also think the rooting interest at GH BTS often remains on preferred characters or actors - BLQ/Setton - vs. Laura's kids. So it's easy to make Lulu the heavy if you think Brook Lynn and Chase are the money on this show. I don't, but I think FV does. And that's not to say I think Amanda Setton is bad in the role, or that I would get rid of BLQ. I don't trend towards either (though I do think that if Setton's personal beliefs keep getting in the way of material I would reluctantly recast). I think Brook Lynn is essential to use as a lead presently. But I don't think it needs to be the black and white dichotomy of suffering young matriarch BLQ and aggressor Lulu. While it's good that unlike in the Guza years they can recognize that Lulu can be obnoxious and rash, can be her own worst enemy and that that is part of the character, it can be toned down or given more layers than it has of late. There's nothing wrong there the writing can't fix.
    • 1999: I just watched it. It felt so primetime. La Lucci is making history. Aretha's daydreaming segment. @Contessa Donatella Thank you, my love. So helpful and informative as always. adding them to my queue.
    • I know this isn’t a usual or anywhere near universal take, but I loved the relatively brief Hal/Emily relationship/marriage more than I ever thought I would have with KMH/BH.
    • In my field (not that) I've written my share of dreck when it's what people wanted vs. something good. In the end what matters is the check. These pilots may not be great, but whether or not those writers intended otherwise they got paid.
