There's a very good chance Giddens ends up writing for The Gates.  He knows MVJ and there are new HWs at DAYS who might want to bring in their own writers.

Of course I realize that it doesn't matter where writers live anymore. In modern times, they don't meet in person, and instead transmit their stuff online.

That being said, Jamey lives in Atlanta.

Tyla lives in the ATL too. I've already wondered about these character descriptions sounding like those he'd create. Make of it what you will.

I'm curious if these character names are final. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them change by the time the episodes are filmed.

Lol. I take it that you don't really care for these character names?

As it's been reported, multiple times, filming will scheduled to begin November 4, 2024, which would put them [roughly] eight weeks tape-to-air for a January 2025 premiere, which is standard for CBS soaps.

Sorry, I don't think I'd seen that info, and/or perhaps hadn't been paying too much attention to those details until I read of the setting and some of the character descriptions.

I still think the timeline is unfortunate for what I hope will be a smart political drama, in that these characters won't know who the president is when we meet them.  At the risk of asking another dumb question, and I swear I Googled it but couldn't find an answer, do we even know the exact premiere date yet?  Presumably it will be a Monday, and looking at the calendar for next year, both Inauguration Day and January 6th fall on Mondays...

Anyway, hopefully the show will kick off with something apolitically dramatic enough to justify that none of these characters are talking about that, and in a few weeks, at least, the script writers can start to sprinkle in references to current-ish events.  It would have been awesome to have "Betty's" first scene be the fitting for her dress to the Inaugural Ball, and maybe there's a way to script such a scene without knowing if/why she would be attending???

No premiere date. Just January 2025 is all we know.

See? That would have been oh so cute.

I wonder what this is about. Maybe they’ve already cast someone important?

Or they saw some set designs?! Cmon Michele, you're our one hope in American daytime right now!

Jokingly, (or perhaps not jokingly, we shall see) this is going to be the five days a week daytime version of The Oval/The Haves and The Have Nots, based solely on those character descriptions.

its gonna be way better than that Tyler Perry show which he wrote all himself and it showed

I really don’t get the need to constantly bring up Tyler Perry comparisons. Those character breakdowns for The Gates sounded pretty decent to me and I actually think Tyler comes up with okay dramatic concepts, its his scripts and overall execution that usually stinks. The creatives behind this show have much stronger track records.

I completely agree.

I never suggested that the character breakdowns weren't decent, I'm just saying what they sound like TO ME. Opinions always vary, of course.

I don't think it's outrageous to compare this to Tyler Perry. He is the only one who has been launching anything close to a daytime soap in the past 20 years. The Have and The Have Not's was even shot just like a daytime soap in it's early seasons. I believe The Oval is mostly studio bound as well.

With that said, I don't think the character descriptions sound similar to what we had on either of those shows. It's similar in that it involves politics and I'm sure there will be some have nots to mix with the wealthy characters, but that is also true of every US soap and most international ones as well.
