I seem to recall the NY market at least moving GL up pretty early near the end. I still had full cable back then, still watched many soaps live and it was at some weird slot.

it was 1995, when WCBS, which was owned by the network, move gl to 10am. around the same time the boston affiliate had it @ 9. 

while hard to measure the impact, i’ve always felt it was the beginning of the end. same thing happened with another world. in boston, it was on some obscure local station in the middle of the night. 

I do recall, when I lived in NY, Guiding Light aired at 10am. The last few years of GL aired at that time on WCBS. PIR was at 11am, News at Noon, Y&R at 12:30pm, B&B at 1:30pm and ATWT at 2pm.

could be wrong about this, and correct me if i am.

but, as i recall, sometimes in the 90s, networks ceded time after 3pm to their local affiliates, which meant that they could do what they pleased with soaps that aired @ 3 — gl and aw. but the affiliates couldn’t mess with the shows that aired before 3 — the rest of the soap lineups

With Y&R, I'd love to one day see their early years, but I find it pretty interesting that neither Katherine nor Lorie were there at the beginning and both ended up being such important characters during that era of the show. I'd love to be able to watch it to see how the show was prior to their arrivals.

GL stayed at 3pm here where I live

 

The only soap I've seen that aired early was Generations at 11 am when I lived in California lol

I believe so. It's been so long that I don't actual remember the date.

I remember when LOVING aired on my local ABC affiliate at 10:30 am - before the station junked the show altogether - and thinking, "Geez, people haven't even recovered from Regis and Kathie Lee yet!"

Word. Here... at 9 AM in the 70's there was Phil Donahue, Merv Griffin, and The Price is right.

Only Beyond the Gates looks worth it. Plus, [some] cast are in Washington, D.C. right now for the show's press!

They really used Sally/Billy, & Carter and Hope for a promo two of the most unpopular couples on soaps right now, I can't
