I seem to recall the NY market at least moving GL up pretty early near the end. I still had full cable back then, still watched many soaps live and it was at some weird slot.

it was 1995, when WCBS, which was owned by the network, move gl to 10am. around the same time the boston affiliate had it @ 9.

while hard to measure the impact, i’ve always felt it was the beginning of the end. same thing happened with another world. in boston, it was on some obscure local station in the middle of the night.

I do recall, when I lived in NY, Guiding Light aired at 10am. The last few years of GL aired at that time on WCBS. PIR was at 11am, News at Noon, Y&R at 12:30pm, B&B at 1:30pm and ATWT at 2pm.

could be wrong about this, and correct me if i am.

but, as i recall, sometimes in the 90s, networks ceded time after 3pm to their local affiliates, which meant that they could do what they pleased with soaps that aired @ 3 — gl and aw. but the affiliates couldn’t mess with the shows that aired before 3 — the rest of the soap lineups

I didn't either until very recently.  Given what I've read about Y&R's first years, however, I think it was a genius move on Bill Bell's part: build up the romantic tension between mystery man Brad (Eliot, not Carlton) and introverted Leslie, drop hints about Lorie as the "wild child" who was enjoying the fast life in Europe; then, when Lorie does come home, have her set her sights on her sister's love interest.

ICAM! 💯Lorie was/is a fascinating character. Yes, genius writing and planning above all.

Here's to the next Katherine Chancellor or Sally Spectra!

I am so ready for this! And I honestly would love for Victoria Rowell to be offered it!

Those are excellent examples! I've seen the first few years of B&B and it wasn't bad, but boy did Sally give them a huge jolt of energy. With Y&R, I'd love to one day see their early years, but I find it pretty interesting that neither Katherine nor Lorie were there at the beginning and both ended up being such important characters during that era of the show. I'd love to be able to watch it to see how the show was prior to their arrivals.

GL stayed at 3pm here where I live

The only soap I've seen that aired early was Generations at 11 am when I lived in California lol

Generations aired at 11:00 a.m. in Texas too.

When you saw "used to," do you mean pre-September 2012? I ask because ABC moved GH from its regular slot to the OLTL slot. Only the ABC Owned Stations moved it back to its regular slot a few years later. If your GH is at 1:00, and it was the OLTL slot, that's why.

I believe so. It's been so long that I don't actual remember the date.

What mentally unbalanced station manager would slot a soap opera in at 9 am!?

I remember when LOVING aired on my local ABC affiliate at 10:30 am - before the station junked the show altogether - and thinking, "Geez, people haven't even recovered from Regis and Kathie Lee yet!"

Word. Here... at 9 AM in the 70's there was Phil Donahue, Merv Griffin, and The Price is right.

Get serious, CBS.  The only soap of yours that might be getting soapier is BTG.  The other two are just coasting.

LOL this promo is so bad, mostly chemistry free unpopular pairings from YR/BOLD

Only good part is BTG

Only Beyond the Gates looks worth it. Plus, [some] cast are in Washington, D.C. right now for the show's press!

They really used Sally/Billy, & Carter and Hope for a promo two of the most unpopular couples on soaps right now, I can't

Edit: not sure if Kyle/Claire are unpopular lol

that embedding glitch with the SON forum technical issue, the entire new IG CBS multisoap promo is bleeding down two posts and I can't see it now.
(Nobody's fault, just a random technical thing)

Found it and reposting with extra spaces after so that it doesn't do that again.
