The teaser trailer is pretty good, but I wouldn't get too excited about it.

We've seen this before -- spending a lot more to intro a show, followed by a "realistic" budget. I highly doubt we're going to get primetime production values on a regular basis.

I don't expect much from a teaser b/c do we really think CBS is going to put much money into it? Nope. Hell, they barely promote their other daytime shows. Also, CBS primetime promos look like trash, so I don't expect much.

I was looking at the production scale, and I am impressed.

Yeah, we soap fans are used to it. Still, it looks good. The sets look large and lush.

Not gonna lie, at first glance, it gives me flashbacks of watching the first episode of The Have and Have Nots (a show which turned out to be the biggest waste of time EVER). Thankfully, that creator has nothing to do with this show, so I have high hopes.

What CBS said in the PR:

CBS DELIVERS A TASTE OF DECADENCE AND DRAMA WITH FIRST LOOK OF NEW DAYTIME SERIES “BEYOND THE GATES”

Debut Project from the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture,
in Partnership with P&G Studios, Premieres
Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, and Will Air Weekdays on CBS

The holiday season is upon us and in the spirit of scandals, backstabbing, grudges and family drama, CBS brings you the first look at the new scintillating daytime series BEYOND THE GATES.

The teaser introduces the Duprees – a prominent Black family who hold court over their affluent community in Maryland from Fairmont Crest, the country club at the center of their luxurious enclave filled with wealthy residents harboring deep secrets.

BEYOND THE GATES will premiere Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, and air weekdays (2:00-3:00 PM, ET; 1:00-2:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+*.

The series began production in Atlanta, Ga., in November and stars Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Daphnee Duplaix, Karla Mosley, Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin, Marquita Goings, Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad and Arielle Prepetit.

BEYOND THE GATES is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., and in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. Here you’ll find a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.

BEYOND THE GATES is developed and produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble, pioneers of the soap opera genre. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. This marks the first-ever one-hour Black daytime soap and the first daytime drama to premiere in more than 25 years.

Michele Val Jean is the creator, executive producer and showrunner alongside executive producers Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Robert Guza Jr., Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld.

*Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers will have access to stream live via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service, as well as on demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will not have the option to stream live, but will have access to on-demand the day after the episode airs.

"CBS Daytime is about to get soapier."

I guess we're allowed to say CBS Daytime again?

That's exciting! Now, let's GET IT ON with some daytime block promotion:

One set looks "large and lush." The office set, not so much.

Look, I'm not playing Debbie Downer here, an I have a problem with people who are negative about that promo. They're absurd.

Still, I think it's shaky to overpraise anything at this point. It's exciting to get a new soap, but our expectations should still be reasonable.

What's the lore here?

The voice saying "Welcome to Fairmont Crest" sound so familiar, who is that?

The promo was fun, it's hard to say if this looks much better than GH or B&B (the only soaps left that seem to care even a little bit about how they look) but it looks good.

I'm pretty sure that is Tamara Tunie.

I think you're right...I just haven't heard her voice in so long.
