I wonder what the issue is with the names. Why bother going from Daniel to David and so forth? It doesn't make any difference...

Most casting calls / breakdowns don't include the actual name of the character, to avoid spoilers, etc. so it doesn't surprise me all of the names have changed. Especially since the family was originally the Jacksons and is now the Duprees, etc. and now we see other surnames: the Richardsons, the Hamiltons and the Thomases.

I'm asking this genuinely: what kind of spoiler is contained in a name? 😭

In a new soap, I wouldn't know... but in terms of recasting, a lot? All I know is a lot of casting directors have revealed often in sides they won't give out the character's true name, whether if recast or new role.

In terms of recasting, I'd understand. When it comes to a new soap, on the other hand... let's just say I see tons of opportunities for future trivias!

Yeah some shows do release fake names in casting that give clues to the actual character name... here are two examples:

In 2014, the casting announcement for Y&R was for the character "Aaron Newton" but they didn't veil it well, because speculation was that it was obviously Adam Newman -- and indeed Justin Hartley was cast as Adam.

In 2023, it was announced that AnnaLynne McCord was cast as "Marin" for DAYS and there was speculation that it was a code name for Abigail Deveraux -- because Ashley Benson once played Abigail on DAYS and then Benson went on to play "Hannah Marin" in the Pretty Little Liars shows.  Turns out that McCord's character is "FakeAbigail" who was recently revealed to be Cat Greene.

But yeah, when casting for a brand new soap, I don't think it would be spoilerish to give out the character names.   Maybe it's just something casting directors are used to doing.

There is a fan podcast for the show and they put together a really nice thread with clips of the cast in other roles. Very interesting for those of us who don’t know some of them.

Some clips they chose for some actors are... questionable, and aren't some of their best work.

I thought Obba Babatundé was brilliant in his clip!

Oh, wait...

The ones that I'll be paying attention to immediately is that mother/daughter duo with the last name Thomas. They, and especially the mother, sound like trouble over the long-term. The mother being referred to as "not wrapped tight" is a very defining description, and certainly not in a good way.

"Leslie" Thomas is daytime poor version Veronica Harrington. Calling it now. She's  a waitress/bartender and no doubt tired of the continued poverty she's likely living. She'll try to infiltrate the Dupree's fortune and use her daughter to do it.

According to Colby Muhammad’s website, where she mentions her new role, Beyond the Gates is airing in January.
