Earlier this month, the famed Horton house was set ablaze by a mystery man, leaving the family reeling after decades of history was destroyed instantly. To help viewers better grasp the legacy of the property and the Horton family to the overall canvas, “Days of our Lives” has cast actors Zach Chyz and Sydney Kathrann Smith to play a young Tom and Alice Horton (played by the late Macdonald Carey and Frances Reid).

The special stand-alone episode airs on Wednesday, February 21 and sees members of the Horton clan walk down memory lane with newly created scenes showcasing Tom and Alice’s epic romance, the early beginnings of the Horton family home, and much more.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) explains what was going through her mind while taping the emotional scenes, saying, “When we got to the point of Julie talking about her grandmother, there was so much to say. It was so emotional for me, because of Francis [sic], and because I was raised by my grandmother and mother. So just [anticipating] the words, I started to choke up, and I’d worked very hard on the speeches. It meant so much to me. I went blank, which is unusual. I got up and had to walk around a little bit, try to calm down and say, ‘Now you can do this. You’ve done this before. This is the show. You do this.’”

As for the actors portraying Tom and Alice, you might recognize Chyz from his work on “Bull,” “FBI,” “Welcome to Chippendales,” or more recently “The Rookie,” while Smith is a relative newcomer to Hollywood.
