Oh my God.

Unless Y&R is secretly preparing to cut back to a half-hour, writing five, one-hour (give or take) breakdowns singlehandedly per week is nothing less than insane.

What's next, Josh?  Are you gonna fire all the dialogue writers, too?  As a matter of fact, why stop at the writing? Why not also fire the directors and direct every episode yourself?  Even better, you can dump the writers AND the directors and even all the male actors, so you can play all THEIR parts yourself?  "The roles of everyone without a vagina will now be played by Josh Griffith."

Jesus.  Firing one-half of your writing staff.  I haven't heard anything so unhinged since I listened to Vicky Lucas on WHERE THE HEART IS say she was glad Mary Hathaway and her "nasty little baby" were dead on YouTube.

Even worse, Josh decides to be REALLY bold and turn Y&R into the very first, semi-improvised soap opera on television.  He provides the actions for the actors through the breakdowns, but the actors themselves have to come up with the actual dialogue for their characters.

Yeah, except Eric Braeden already says "You got that?" and "I'll be damned!" enough times for it to be the world's longest drinking game.  I'd hate to think how much more often we'd hear those phrases (and god knows what else) if he were left to his own devices.

Eh today’s Neil tribute just fell flat. I was wondering why it took 2/3 of the episode before Malcolm made his entry. I mean it was good to see original YoHarmony and Malcolm here but the appearances felt ever so brief and abrupt I really couldn’t savor the moment.

PS welcome back Khan!

It's been a hard enough past year losing Jerry verDorn, Kathryn Hays, Lisa Brown, Liz Hubbard, etc. That march of time isn't going to get any easier for soap fans, so I cherish the folks we still have. I still worry about Susan Lucci, who had serious heart issues not long ago. Or Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser though they seem reasonably fit (Erika, as I expected, has admitted to hating retirement and is having a surprisingly robust career in primetime network guest spots, Hallmark, etc. while Robin recently guest-starred on Kristen Alderson's Twitch livestream, where Kristen taught her to play Mario Kart - Kristen drove Robin cross-country to get her COVID vaccine.)

Malcolm's show, which Mama Khan loves, has been cancelled, and he's got a new mouth to feed.  If I were Josh or Steve Kent, I'd be thinking about offering him a sweet deal to return to Y&R and fill the void that KSJ's passing and Victoria Rowell's unceremonious exit has left.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.
    • The Egypt location shoot was cancelled because of the Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
    • A kind angel has added both episodes to the vault (UK Diva TV broadcast version).
    • Yes, I think that is the most likely situation.  TPTB were unhappy with the offer(s) they got from the tourism board in Finland, and decided the trip was going to be too expensive for P&G/NBC to finance alone.   I would also speculate a similar situation likely occurred a few years later with the planned location shoot in Egypt, which was also cancelled after the storyline had already started, and changed to Arizona.
