Valentin was originally conceived by Guza's team in the late 2000s, set up in scripts by Helena and they cast Matt Borlenghi from AMC to play the role. He had been to wardrobe and makeup. Then they got wind of James Franco wanting to do the show and cut it all in favor of the Franco arc. That was the last we heard of Valentin until 2016, when JPS was cast and has been embarrassing himself ever since.

The Cassadine fortunes have always fluctuated wildly. Nikolas being forced to marry Lydia was over 20 years ago. As for Tony, we'll see.

If that's true, then how sad for us all.

I'm a fan of James Patrick Stuart's.  I love seeing him on soaps again.  But I'd be kidding myself if I thought GH was serving him well with his ridiculous character.

Valentin has got to get his groove back.  Maybe he could walk in on a compromising position between Robert and Anna and swear revenge.  Anything!  Just stop this Cassadine version of AC Top 40 radio before more innocent lives are destroyed.

Sigh.  I'd have to agree.  I feel like the writers (and Frank) are having fun with this concept of a user-friendly Cassadine, but they're doing it at the audience's expense.

Hey!  Maybe, when he goes, they could spring for a montage set to Billy Joel's "I've Loved These Days"?

Matt Borlenghi has always come across to me as a "mook."  If the Cassadines were not the Cassadines but the Cassellis, and they were from Jersey rather than from...wherever they're from, then I think he could have been convincing.  Otherwise, no, I don't believe he could've done any better.

I have a very limited knowledge of his work, but from what I have seen he doesn't fit the biggest, baddest Cassadine bill either.  I wonder if James Franco wasn't the only reason the whole thing was scrapped and Guza or whoever just realized it was a miscast role.  At least JPS had a background where you could conceive he could play this part.  He doesn't at all, but you could see the idea.

Meanwhile...

Gregory Harrison is no Stuart Damon, but he's perfectly serviceable as a new, older male lead on this show.  Yet, for whatever reason, they're gonna saddle his character with ALS, while Weeping Willow is just one bright light and a touch of Jesus' garment hem away from being cured.  What gives, GH!?

You know, @carolineg, you make a good point.  It's possible that the show realized the mistake they were about to make, but used James Franco's arrival as a sort of cover.

Not to take anything away from MEK, but maybe JPS should be playing Martin instead?  Just a thought!

When you looked at how Laura was created, it was a given that she would be a very important viable character for many years to come.. partly due to her being the long lost daughter of Lesley.. a mainstay of GH in the 70s.

I think Genie being away so long on maternity leave in the late 90s was the beginning of the lack of respect she was given by those behind the scenes..imho.  It's nice that the show is finally correcting the error of making Laura as secondary to Luke... when it reality, Luke was always secondary to Laura.

I can't see how anyone could bring back Brenda and NOT have her reunite with Sonny.  Even if they chose to delay the reunion for the sake of drama and suspense, with Nina and [enter temporary love interest for Brenda here] as interlopers, you just know that, somewhere down the road, a Sonny/Brenda reunion has to happen.  If it doesn't, then Frank Valentini would officially become the dumbest person alive -- that is, if he isn't already.

Fresh is not Finn or Austin to me at least.  A slow burn to Sonny works for me. It has to be the endgame. I don't even need her in a romantic pairing, but I might try her with Drew in the meantime.  He vaguely fits into her type as the bland Jax kinda guy.  Like Liz/RH, it's not Vanessa/Brenda's job to prop Frank's faves.

    • Justine had a lot of hooey in it, but she was an actual woman, not a guy in drag. She was a doppelganger of Rachel, French, having had a past history with Carl, etc. Two of the more outrageous parts-Justine bricking alive Vicky into a wall & Justine grinding the gears driving a big rig.
    • Hehe, twi/x actually x, formerly Twitter. Typically I find 2 sources for "crazy fan rumors" - the wrong parts of FB and x. Oy.
    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html
    • My bad….ill fix that  Fixed
    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
