You know, Beldner wouldn't be a totally bad idea to test out as HW if Griffith finally gets fired and Sony doesn't want to splurge on better talent. He's worked in every soap writing position except as a HW so far. It would be an inspired choice to let him have a chance - I mean, the show is already bad, how much worse could it get?

It would have been better if he could be paired with someone like Natalie Minardi Slater, but alas, Griffith made sure that won't happen.

I remember some magazine giving Jeff Beldner credit - along with Hal Corley, Frederick Johnson and Michelle Patrick - for a couple of the better '90's stories on AMC.

So, here's what Griffith's Y&R writer bloodbath seems to look like:

Fired Breakdown Writers: Conforti, Hawthorne, Slater

Fired Editor: Bibel

Fired Script Writer: Ensley (she's posted an "Open to Hire" image on her linkedIN page

Hired Script writer: Rebecca Taylor

Reassigned: Boyd now script editor

Reassigned: Gazzaniga from breakdown to script writer

Makes sense that Beall would keep longtime writing friend, Beldner.  But I'm surprised they cut Ficore Conforti a few months before the strike.

Looks like Shannon Peace may be out as breakdown writer at GH unless she wrote an episode this week. I think her last outline was almost a month ago. And Emily Culliton appears to be on contract as her replacement?  Kind of wild to see Emily and Kate Hall writing an episode together given Emily's the Culliton's daughter and Kate is Courtney Simon's daughter.

And Jazmen Brown's name should be disappearing from Days credits soon. He was on staff for six months through Nov 22 according to his linkedin profile.  I think scripts (i.e. drivel) are written about 7 months ahead.

I was worried Sara Endsley was gone and kept hoping her name would show up again in the credits.

She was Y&R's best scriptwriter. In fact, I would argue she was its only good scriptwriter (I respect her long run, but I find Janice Ferri Esser's scripts mediocre at best).

Meanwhile, Sally McDonald has not directed an episode in weeks. This has happened before so I'm hoping she'll be back, but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if JG had fired her.

HENRY NEWMAN JOINS "DAYS" AS SCRIPT WRITER...THIRD MEMBER OF FAMILY TO WRITE FOR "DAYS"...

Henry Newman was credited for his first script today on "Days of Our Lives." He is the son of long-time "Days" script editor Fran Myers. His brother, John Newman, wrote for "Days" in the 2000s and 2010s. He replaces Cheryl Davis, whose last episode aired on May 26.

LONG-TIME "DAYS" SCRIPT WRITERS CAROLYN & RICHARD CULLITON RETIRE...

In response to a "Days" fan today, Carolyn Culliton confirmed that both she and her husband, Richard Culliton, retired from "Days" in April. That should put their last scripts airing around October or November 2023. Richard Culliton briefly wrote for "Days" in 1987 and 2001, before joining the show full-time in 2008. Carolyn Culliton joined "Days" in 2010. In that span, the duo have been responsible for writing the dialogue for over 1,200 "Days" episodes.

Wow. It’s definitely the end of an era.  They are two legends of this genre.  Congrats on their well deserved retirement.  And thank you for all they’ve done for soaps for the last 40 years - that’s a testament to their skill and how much they were respected by their peers.

    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.

    • Lol.  I love that this board still allows misinformation from a bad source.
    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
