Who would you say have been each the 4 soaps it girl aka the star for the majority of the current soaps runs, and the it girl as of today. Basically the actress who has carried the show, and received strong audience feedback with not only their characters but pairings for a prominent majority or the current duration of the show. T

i would say:

Bold- Susan, Joanna(80s), KKL Present: Jacqui

YR- past: Jeanne Cooper, Brenda Dickson, Melody Thomas Scott. Present: Courtney Hope

Gh- Genie Francis, Vannesa Marcil. Present: idk maybe Laura Wright.

days- past: Dedire hall, Alison Sweeney, present: idk

I feel confident in saying that GH's first It Girl is Emily McLaughlin. She would be followed by Denise Alexander, Genie Francis, Emma Samms, Finola Hughes (with Kristina Wagner as the girl-in-waiting), Vanessa Marcil, Sarah Joy Brown and Laura Wright.

As for Days, and of course, subject to opinion, it's Maree Cheatham, Susan Seaforth Hayes (with Denise Alexander as the girl-in-waiting), Deidre Hall, Kristian Alfonso, Mary Beth Evans (with Patsy Pease as the girl-in-waiting), Melissa Reeves, Deidre again (sometimes alongside Eileen Davidson), Allison Sweeney, Arianne Zucker for a while there and I dunno, Victoria Konefal? Linsey Godfrey? Deidre yet again for nostalgia's sake?

I guess Days It Girl is Ari Zucker, She has been nominated for lead actress A few times lately and Nicole's Slutting Around seems pretty relevant on the show, But Marci, O'Brien, And Lindsay Godfrey also have been kinda important

Obviously, MyGirl Vanessa owns this thread, but she was a moment/icon/legend......that GH cares nothing about these days lol.  Carly definitely has been the it girl for longer, but GH is weird.  Sam, Courtney, Kate/Connie, Emily, etc.  all were it girls for awhile but then went away.

I would argue as long as Dee's been on Days (post-1980) she was always the "it girl" even now.  Except for 1992, I can't remember a moment she was truly backburned.  I also considered Kim more important that Kayla.  She had all the drama.   I would also say Christie Clark's Carrie, Lisa Rinna's Billie, CC's Carly, and KS's Belle were very much it girls in their time, but didn't last.

Well, Sam got a lot of airtime, but she never really developed a personality outside being Jason's appendage.  But her and Dante barely appear anymore.   I still can't believe how little the show uses Dante and a decade ago you couldn't get a day off from him.

There's a lot of overlapping. You almost have to go year-by-year. 1993, for example, had Marlena, but also Carly, Billie and Kristen.

Definitely.  Days had several leading ladies in the 90's that could be considered.  I haven't even mentioned MR's Jen, who was certainly an it girl as well in that time period.

That's a great one!  Absolutely.

    • No.  I recall there was also a mention about how distracting it was EOB's Gwen wasn't wearing nail polish as well.  That it was someone's pet peeve. And, yes, the fact characters can have a manicure in prison is the wildest continuity issue here.
    • Can anyone remember Mary Ellen Stuart's run as Jenny? I'm trying to fill in the cracks for missing stuff that we overlooked.  Bulletpoints:  * Dated Ross * Rusty's police partner * Directly responsible for Dinah coming forward about George Stewart (Cam's father)
    • But that's not weird... nail polish is allowed in prisons via commissary. Same with general makeup, haircuts, and hair colouring products.
    • This is DAYS, the show that said you could brainwash anyone with simple kitchen appliances.  An actor's nail polish or lack thereof should be the least of our concerns, lol.
    • It was not that she wasn't wearing nail polish, it is that she managed to get a manicure in prison
    • "We're Knot Done Yet": the name of this lovely podcast AND what JVA tells her plastic surgeon at every appointment. In other news, Michele Lee is reminding me more and more of my old music teacher from elementary school, and I couldn't STAND that bitch.
    • I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know whether Douglas Marland was HW'ing by that point?  If he was, then I see what he meant when he said (in so many words) that he had inherited a mess when he started at GH.  Aside from Alan and Monica, none of that material seems very promising.  The story with Mark Dante and the Corbins is the wrong kind of predictable (y'know, the kind where you know what's going to happen, but you just don't give a crap?), the stuff with Scotty and Laura is cute but toothless, I don't know WHAT the hell Gina and Steve Carlson's character are arguing about and Rick Webber has to be the dumbest man alive not to see David Hamilton twirling his invisible moustache over how to make a killing off Lamont Corbin's declining health.  (By the way, "LAMONT CORBIN"?  What is this, "The Shadow"?  And "Corbin Limited" sounds like some jive I'd hear over on Y&R.) In a way, it's kind of like watching today's GH, right down to the dialogue that's serviceable and pushes plot along but says nothing about the characters' inner lives.
    • It absolutely was; the narrative was there, and they followed it promptly. Maybe that's back when women had babies at young ages?!?!?

    • Thanks for asking that!  Back when we had another major event upcoming (a party or the concert), I had intended to ask what everyone here was planning to wear.
