What major soap change/event would shock you if it happened this year?

Hmmm. The Bold and Beautiful one still reads like the event is most likely to occur at some given point, so viewers should just hold on to their patient panties. If DAYS decides to bring back Dena Higley, I'll be shocked and say peace out. Why I watch DAYS now is worth getting a psychiatric evaluation, but secretly, I get so geeked out watching a train wreck. But Dena? No. Hell no. I'm not going through that mess a third time. They always say that three times a charm, but don't give into it.

I don't watch GH so I wouldn't care about any of that. Y&R? Don't watch. Streaming seems to be how we're evolving instead of watching television shows 'LIVE'. Society likes things at their own leisure and cable companies know that. HBOMax, Hulu, Paramount + have also changed their game recently going against up Goliath Netflix.

Hmmm. Hulu/Disney+/ESPN/ABC is an all-in-one streaming haven on Hulu. I can see an AMC/OLTL reboot.

I would DIE if the last one were true. OMG. My mom and I were talking on the phone a couple of days ago, and she was telling me how much she loves watching old television shows that she grew up watching like Perry Mason. She laughed when I reminded her how much she loved Michael Zaslow (ex-Roger Thorpe; GL). Seriously. She crushed on him so hard it was pathetic but fun to witness in person.

To wrap it up, I think:

  • A new headwriter at DAYS will more than likely happen. I don't know if that Twitter outburst of Ron's did any damage, so I can't say. Would it shock me? No. If they brought back Dena Higley? Yes.
  • An AMC/OLTL reboot could possibly happen.
  • ATWT/GL on third party streaming service would more than likely not happen even though this would shock the hell out of me plus infinity.
  • The B&B, GH, or Y&R ones don't really read as having a profound effect, but that's just me.

Oh, really? I was just going by the options given and went with the flow. I don't know why I'm leaning more towards the DAYS speculation, but even I read that Twitter outburst and just found the whole thing stupid and completely unnecessary. Yeah, I get that ONE BOSS signs his checks. Duh. That's a no-brainer. But, viewers always have their say in the end. They always do. My advice to Ron is to write it, roll it, and stick it in his ear. I don't mean that in a bad way either. But, if Dena Higley came back? Oh my God. Since Ken Corday seems to act like Victor Kiriakis these days by throwing Titan to anyone who has a pulse, maybe Ken's throwing the headwriter bone to David Kreizman instead.

No, the GL/ATWT streaming one would rock my world for sure. No, my family knows I love my Guiding Light. It broke my heart when I heard about it on March 31, 2009. But, when I saw the character of Daisy talking to someone next to a port-o-potty, I knew it was time to pull the plug.

I would be shocked if Y&R doesn't get a new EP and HW (one can only hope with some minor changes / the Athletic Club is mentioned again / Diane's return / Imani gets some story / among others )

Days needs a new EP more than it needs a  new HW.

The big three networks decide that all of their aged serials have run their course. All four soaps are cancelled and replaced with new serials. Some use veteran actors but most use new talent, in front of the camera and behind the camera.

Y&R has been a snoozefest since JG took over.  If he wasn't replaced last year I don't see him being dropped anytime soon.  Sony/CBS satisfied with mediocrity as long as the ratings are ahead of the others.

    • IIRC, FC reruns aired for awhile on Lifetime, way before the network became the Women in Peril Channel, lol.
    • PAM!! YES!!! You have jogged my memory. She worked at Cedars. She's mentioned in a write-up of Tim's history in the show. It says she was a nurse, but I seem to remember she was a secretary at Cedars, working for either Ed or Sarah. (It's almost 50 years ago, so I definitely could be wrong). I'm certain she was an unwed mother. I recall reading an interview with the actress, Maureen Silliman (I looked it up, that's her correct name, LOL). She started on the show just before the Dobsons started writing it. She was shocked to get a script that said her character had been pregnant since she hit town. I remember a scene where she told Tim she was going to leave SF for a better job for her daughter's sake (really, I think she was upset he was serious about Rita). I don't remember them getting married and leaving town, but according to "Who's Who in Springfield" that's how the characters were written out. Mattson did All My Children for several years, so she might have been persuadable. Here's an interesting factoid I recently learned on these message boards: Elvera Roussel was in the running to play Delia on RH when the show first hit the air. How wild is it that Mattson played Delia for a while? (Though from what I saw of her performance, she was miscast). It's hard to know if Roussel would have been a good Delia. I would think she would have been better suited to playing Faith Coleridge, but who knows? She didn't get to show a whole lot of range as Hope.
    • If I were to do an EON reboot, I think I would start at the beginning, with Mike Karr leaving the police force in order to begin a new career as an attorney, and dealing with his wife, Sara's, crooked family.
    • I don't know if it was the writing or performance but I felt like we finally got to see the real Ted. Especially the way he talked to Martin when confronted, felt like a completely different person. He felt darker and like a total liar who was mad he got caught. I expected him to be remorseful and want to apologize to each and every family member who he came into contact with but he seemed like he didn't care. It completely changed how I view him and it makes me wonder if this is the direction they're going to take Ted in with the recast.
    • Tessa clarified a few years ago that she is gay and not bi.   I find it offensive that the show is teasing her with Daniel. Mariah told Sharon she went emotionally/mentally to a dark place, and while she was out of town on business she got drunk and did something bad.  But Mariah didn't say she cheated.  The show wants us to assume that, but she didn't say that.  She could have taken drugs or who knows what.  All we know is that she feels shame and doesn't want Tessa to know.  Mariah says the inner darkness is due to the longterm influence of Ian in the past, and she hasn't healed from that. With a *good* writer, we could have organic conflict in the Teriah marriage, without cheating.  But JG isn't a good writer.
    • Was that before his accident? I think it was. Most of us have never seen him before it happened.
    • I wonder if Falcon Crest wasn't seen as macho enough for them.  I first saw Dynasty on FX around 1994 or 1995. I think it ran for a few years, although I may be off as I moved and lost the channel for a while.
