It was one of the last showcases for her deep sense of longing, insecurity and pain being a tool to lash out at others.  Erica always had a point of view, but the story didn’t necessarily revolve around her like later ones did, or be told in such a way that the audience could only root for her against her circumstances.

I still think the baby switch was a terrible idea- a step too far for Erica, and some of that biased writing was done to bring her back away from outright villainy.

@Soaplovers Nah i don't believe in that logic. Brooke lose so much she stop being true competition. There needs to be a Equal balance between the two. this clip doesn't work with a loser.

Erica taking Maria's baby Maddie was the wrong move..and I don't know what the logic was in doing that.

I thought the scenes of Erica returning the baby to Maria were good, her being arrested, Mateo telling Erica she was no longer welcome in his restaurant, people throwing rocks through her window, being sent to jail, Maria's mom coming to Erica's parole hearing, a scene where Liza pointed out to Erica that people weren't going to support her early release to see Bianca when she kept a baby away from their mom.

I think the 1999 face scar story is when the show stopped writing Erica as a 3D character and turned her into a cartoon.  And she seemed to regress in maturity as well.

Look at Erica running Tempo in the 80s and later Enchantment in the 90s.  She acted mature, decisive and like an adult.

Flashforward to the 2000s..and she was acting like a teenager.

@Soaplovers the logic was they stopped writing from character. Cause if they did Brooke would replace Maria in this storyline. And I guarantee you nobody would have hated this storyline. You set stage that Erica really wants to give dimitri a little boy and Brooke is the one they gives it to him and Erica basically snaps …..,..

I always appreciated that it was a consistent trait that Erica and Brooke just didn’t like one another, it was realistic in the sense that in life you’ll have people you just don’t like and don’t want to be around. Even when they weren’t actively involved in each other’s storylines or sharing many scenes together, you would occasionally get the reminder neither cared for one another. I liked that, lol.

My mom would occasionally turn in the late 90s and 2000s...and she would wonder where Brooke or Erica stood with one another.  And on occasion, if Brooke was mentioned to Erica...Erica would have a great put down...and when Erica was mentioned to Brooke...Brooke would sigh and make a passive aggressive dig at Erica.

Happened all the way till the end of the show..and ironically, the two started out being co schemers till Tom entered the picture

date: Friday, May 2 | Teresa Zimmerman, Judy Tate | Steven Williford The drama-rama is drama'ing! This is juicier than the freshest of fresh peaches picked right from its home. Deadbeat, finally able to get his frustrations out physically on someone; instead of it being Bradley, it's Dana. I love the unraveling of Dana's names (Leslie, Sherry, Anna, et al.). It's juicy. And look at Dr Carlton, chiming in. I love the way Anita and Dani fled to Nicole's side, and then Vernon trying to excuse everyone but "immediate family" (and I am sure Mona as well) from the room. Dana is coming undone. She really is. Her numerous ways of pronouncing "Teddy" to everyone. Oh, Nicole's collapse into a furious Anita hearing "lover" coming from Dana's mouth. BILL KNOWS SOMETHING! His all-too-casual non-denial shows he knew about something concerning the affair, and of course the child bride wants to know what it is. Love that Shanice visited Vanessa; I wonder what kind of friendship they may actually have. Well, now we know Bill's involvement, AND the bombshell has been dropped: Eva is [supposedly] Ted's daughter he thought Dana aborted. "Smarty Marty". Whew. Good name for Deadbeat. I appreciate Dani's anger and hurt being focused into anger and love for Nicole. Dana swishing her way out of the main part of the country club to her closet was everything. A soap villain sashaying her way from the havoc she's wrecked. I appreciate that both Anita and Vernon are assuring Mona is not to blame in this. She's an innocent in this. But her looks to Eva? Those could cut like a butter knife. Douglas knows Vanessa has cheated and is continuing to cheat. ARE WE ABOUT TO GET KATHERINE VERSUS TED?! Oh, this is going to be even juicier than I could have ever asked for. CAN PEOPLE STOP SITTING ON TABLES! IT'S SO ANNOYING! Dana's little daydream of talking to Nicole was everything; that's the "crazy" (a.k.a., mental illness). Billy boy, it's time for your turn in the hot seat. Stop rubbing toes and get your ass to the main house. Not Dana showing up at the Dupree home. Oh, what does she have planned next?! Whew... chile. General notes: Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana) gave an empowered performance in today's episode. She commanded the set that day. This is an Emmy-worthy supporting performance. Ambyr Michelle (Eva) is one that has really shown in the past few episodes; she's another young star in the making. She embodies Eva in every single sense. She brings the scripts to life through her craft. Maurice Johnson (Ted) brought nothing. I'm not surprised he was recast at this point. Keith D. Robinson would have rocked these scenes and actually presented something to the table.
    • I agree!  I'm excited to see if Nicole forgives Ted, if Ted accepts Eva, if Kat accepts Eva, what happens with Leslie... if Martin's story will play into any of this...
    • I like that I don't know what direction they are going in next for this storyline. It's a great place to be for a fan like myself!
    • I am so appreciative of the camaraderie of watching BTG in real time with other posters here
    • not sure what the costume designer was trying to say about anita with that monstrosity of a necklace.

I like that Andre is being nice to her
    • Wait, was Nicole really there in that scene with Leslie or was she just talking to herself? Nicole vanished.
