Somerset... Between Two Worlds

Considering how it ended up, perhaps they should've called it "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" instead.

Sunset Beach was originally Never Say Goodbye

I remember that. Such an interesting choice for a soap title, especially in the late 90s.

Thanks for that. I knew there was an original title but couldn't remember/locate it. Will add it in!

No problem. I actually hate that title!

The Bold and The Beautiful ...Rags

Wasn't B&B's original setting supposed to be a newspaper in Chicago, hence the title Rags?

Frankly, the Bells should have set B&B in NYC, since that's more of a fashion capital than L.A.  (Exhibit A: the city's yearly "Fashion Week.")

They also should've kept "Rags" as the title.  "The Bold and the Beautiful" has always sounded a little too "If you like 'The Young and the Restless,' then you'll love..." to me.

Rags as in the rags (clothing) industry. This was never meant to be the actual title, it was just the name the Bells used while developing the show. Brad said in an interview that they knew pretty early on that they'd be going the, "The (blank) and the (blank)" route.

Is true that at one point there was a third Bell soap in the works called "The Proud and the Passionate?"

Margaret DePriest created an unaired soap for NBC set at a newspaper in Chicago, I believe. The title was "Deadline." Variety announced it in the mid-80s.

I was thinking Rags as in the tabloid press.

That title sounds way too cheesy

Didn't Bill Bell Jr. and Maria Arena Bell create a show called "Coming of Age" but for whatever reason CBS passed on it.

Yep. But Coming of Age was a possible NBC soap.

Y&R very nearly went to air with the title “The Young and Restless Years”. The original Screen Gems contracts have that name for show. Thank goodness someone lobbed off “Years”.
