When I was growing up I used to watch the Mary Tyler Moore Show religiously in the Nick at Nite reruns. I just adored Rhoda. One of the freshest, warmest, most endearing TV characters ever. That show helped me get through a lot and I'll always be grateful to the cast for it, even if they never knew.

The Mary/Phyllis/Rhoda relationship was just so wonderful and so complex and most of all so funny. Rarely anything like it on TV.

Sorry to hear this news.  The way Harper was living and seemed to be thriving in the face of her original diagnosis made everybody feel as if she could really go into remission. She leaves behind a memorable body of work in television and in theater.

If you happen to be one of the (no doubt) many on SON who rue the day I ever set foot here, just know that I wouldn't have made it out of junior high or high school alive had it not been for Rhoda.  She literally gave me the strength to stay in the fight, as it were.  And I'll always be grateful to everyone involved -- Harper, Jim Brooks, Allan Burns, Treva Silverman, everyone -- for the impact she made upon my life.

RIP Valerie.  You WILL be missed, and loved forever.  :)

It's too bad they can't run a "Mary Tyler Moore"/"Rhoda" marathon instead.  "Valerie" always leaves a sour taste in my mouth on account of the BTS drama between her, her husband and Miller/Boyett/Lorimar.

???

Admittedly, I got my first dose of Valerie Harper through reruns of Valerie/The Hogan Family and have been a fan ever since.  Even in short-term roles, like Michael Mancini's mom on Melrose Place (Season 6), she always made an impact. RIP :(

It's just my way of saying, "I wouldn't be here today, annoying the crap out of you, if it weren't for Valerie Harper and Rhoda."  Sorry if I wasn't clear before.
