I am not here for that.  I will never be here for that.

Funny that Drew enters into the talk show business exactly 70 years after her aunt Diana Barrymore almost became the first to host one, The Diana Barrymore Show. It would have been the very first talk show, but she never showed up for the broadcast and the show was cancelled immediately.

If only Drew would have followed in her aunt's footsteps and stayed away.

I like Drew, but 'hosting an hour-long talk show in which she talks, for an hour' is not my idea of a winning format for her.

Considering the tumultous, tragic life Diana Barrymore had and her sad ending (death by possible overdose at 38) I think Drew would do better not to follow her lead.

Why not?  Certainly, listening to Drew Barrymore talk for an hour five days a week couldn't make us any stupider than we are already!

Is it just me or is it odd how much press this show gets given its ratings?

The NY Post seems particularly enamored.  Today there were stories about Drew's therapist quitting when she started drinking after her divorce, and a story on Cameron Diaz's response to Drew's drinking.  At least once a week I see something about her life as a single mother.

Is it on at a time of day when NY Post editors take their coffee break?  Are they done writing about The View?  What explains the interest in a show that I do not find very entertaining?

My guesses: A very good, connected PR team + Barrymore being Hollywood royalty/a movie star when that actually still meant something. Those female stars of that generation (Aniston, Paltrow, et al) still get so much coverage in spite of not being *that* zeitgeist-y.
