Related to this thread, an article on mass shootings in the U.S. and why there is such a high rate and frequency compared to other nations-- the answer is very simple, the availability of guns.

"Americans make up about 4.4 percent of the global population but own 42 percent of the world’s guns. From 1966 to 2012, 31 percent of the gunmen in mass shootings worldwide were American, according to a 2015 study by Adam Lankford, a professor at the University of Alabama."

Another shooting, this time in Northern California, in the unincorporated community of Rancho Tehama.

The gunman was said to be trying to engage people in confrontations and shooting at will as he made his way to the elementary school, wounding two children and killing four adults (one of whom was a neighbor that he had a ongoing running dispute with).

Again, instead of even discussing common sense gun control laws, we are left with the media trying to focus on the mindset of the gunman (will this prevent the next mass shooting?) and how "lucky" the terrorized kids and surviving adults were that this wasn't worse.

Really?

Having to try to deal with the daily reality of not feeling safe anywhere is 'lucky'?
