I wonder if that has to do with Best Picture being preferential ballot and people voting for it because they don't like being told what to like.

It's so weird, this movie was critically slammed and didn't make much money so it's weird that it got all the awards.

The preferential ballot changes things so much, as if your top three favorite movies are out, your vote goes to your fourth favorite for example.

I'm happy for Olivia,  she's deserved. I'm a bit sad for Glenn though given her losing steak and the fact that she IS one of the best actors period of her generation. Hopefully she gets something good in the coming years and has another shot - would hate for her to be given a token honourary Oscar a few years from now when she's at the end of her life/career...

Just glad Lady Gaga's campaign for a Best Actress Oscar faltered like hell...

I know she’s been developing the Broadway show Sunset Boulevard as a film musical. Whether or not that turns out good remains to be seen. I’ve seen people compare this to Marion Cotillard beating Julie Christie, but Julie had her Oscar.

Wow. Octavia is an Oscar WINNER.

Green Book is the typical Best Picture of recent years - it makes Oscar voters feel like they're tackling a cause and also is a finger in the eye to more outspoken liberal voices.

I thought Christian Bale might win so that was a little surprising, but I'm happy enough for Rami Malek. I saw that ACT-UP was upset he didn't mention the fight against AIDS, which I agree with, although some of the criticisms (like him saying Freddie was gay and not bi, or not saying enough about Freddie, etc.) just become formless.

Apparently Rami fell off the stage after he won.

I had read that Olivia Colman was getting more and more steam, so I wasn't hugely shocked by her win. I felt so bad for Glenn Close, as this was probably her last chance, but Olivia had a very gracious and funny acceptance speech.

Loved seeing John Mulaney, and Chris Evans looked cuddlier than ever.

This is such a nice photo:

Rami Malek, Olivia Colman, Regina King and Mahershala Ali

As someone who grew up watching 227 I will always think of that when I see Regina but I know she has done so much more. I'm just overjoyed for her.

So apparently this is the first (and probably the last for a while) Oscars where a majority of the acting winners weren't white.

I think two black actors have won a few years: Halle/Denzel, Jamie Foxx/Morgan Freeman, Mahershala/Viola. Edit: I suppose they’re counting Rami as non-white.

I like Rami Malek well enough but Bohemian Rhapsody was offensive rubbish so it winning anything was shameful.

Green Book is also atrocious. Driving Miss Daisy isn't exactly some masterpiece and it's definitely aged but at least it has a very good leading performance from Jessica Tandy and a script based off a Pulitzer Prize winning play. Green Book has....nothing. I like Mahershala Ali but that wasn't his finest hour and Richard E. Grant would have been a great winner. The Favourite, BlacKkKlansman, and especially Roma were robbed. At least it wasn't Bohemian Rhapsody

Olivia Colman winning was the best win in a long time. I think Marina De Tavira gave the best performance in supporting actress but I'm happy for Regina King. Glad Spike Lee finally won.

    • Yes! I actually started typing something up the other day but ended up not posting. It pretty much said something to the effect of the show feeling like there were a lot of balls in the air, the stories almost felt aimless. I am sure most of these will come to a head soon enough. I also wondered if it had something to do with the changes behind the scenes, but these lulls between major moments truly kill the momentum.
    • Will concede it's moving along slowly, but I am still hinged on every word every second. I refuse to miss anything.  OTOH, I watch GH were things are moving along  little quicker, but I have to FF certain scenes because it's extremely repetitive, where I don't get that from BTG.
    • I am toggling between Apr ‘82 Kay and Nikki, and Aug ‘92 Kay and Nikki… and it is a jarring juxtaposition! Nikki has calcified into a Stepford Wife

    • I've watched the show faithfully since the premiere, but I've found that I've let myself fall behind the past few weeks. It sort of feels like nothing is happening again. Does anyone else feel the same way? I would think for November sweeps they'd be pulling out all the stops.
    • I didn't even watch but saw the recap. I can't believe Billy Flynn has been saddled with all of this. He so deserved better.
    • Vernon was spotted by the worst person possible. Leslie is definitely going to use that to her advantage somehow.
    • Yesss! I cackled when Dr. Walked told Leslie to Google him (check my credentials). What is Elon's issue with Izaiah again? Considering we are supposed to believe that Izaiah was some troubled youth, why wouldn't Elon be gald his son has seemed to mature and has job at a great school. I get that family wounds and patterns can run deep, and somehow Joey was a paternal figure to Izaiah but Izaiah's troubles seem behind him.

    • Yeah. I wasn't feeling it either. If it was meant to be a chem test, it didn't work. I don't think so. Because I think Neil and Liz moved into that house after Stefano "died", and Neil lived there until he went to go see his patients and never came back

    • Canada aired a repeat today Tues. Nov. 18. So after being a day ahead for the past week, they will now be back in sync with U.S.
