American Idol: Discussion Thread

I remember reading she had a new project in the works a year ago. I don't think I would have watched but it's a shame to see a legend get punted in favor of a show that has been a piece of [!@#$%^&*] for a decade.

Well, Seacrest has to do that morning talk show with Kelly Ripa in New York City five days a week now.  American Idol is based in Los Angeles.  If TPTB really want Seacrest to return as host, why can't they move the show to New York?  I can't say that I'm not worried about Seacrest ending up in an early grave.

THANK YOU!

He had the Moms. My mom just loved him.

Some folks don't *need* to win Idol. Like Daughtry. Sometimes losing is better. And McPhee hasn't exactly had a snooze of a life ...

That too ....

But girls don't seem to vote for girls. Lots of talented women have lost Idol over the years as mediocre "hot" guys get advanced further.

Adam Lambert was by far more talented than Kris Allen, yet Allen won and Lambert has had the career of a lifetime ... meanwhile, this fall Allen will be singing at a Disney theme park ...

I've always had issues with Idol and it's voting as well as it's teen audience voters as well as the soccer moms ....

I blame Evangelical so-called "Christians" for Adam Lambert not winning.  After he came out officially, they had a campaign to not let a gay win, to vote Kris Allen. And yeah, I do hate the teen girl thing about the voting on IDOL.  IDOL this season lost some good people early in the Top 12, who were better than some that made the Top 5, especially that Kelly Clarkson wannabe and the horrible blonde chick.

Next season, I kind of hope there's a little switch up in the judging panel.  I do like the chemistry of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, but feel maybe a tougher judge a la the old style Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan or Sharon Osbourne, might be a great fit to balance out The Voice like coaching instead of critical judging like the old IDOL.

    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.

      look who’s at a party I’m at
    • Yes. We should absolutely move on from John/Drake's 40 year legacy on the show to see what Leo is going to do tomorrow.  Lol.  This can't be a serious post.

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!
