To be fair, Ashley's character did seem to change a bit with Epperson, but she was able to keep the soul of the character intact. I many ways, I think Epperson made Ashley more of a traditional soap heroine, which Davidson's Ashley is as well, but the character always had more of an "icy princess" vibe to her with Eileen (which I don't think Brenda really had).

I will never wrap my head around Shari's casting, other than Ron Moss probably asking Bell for a favour.

Whom would you have cast as Ashley?

What I've always wondered was who else auditioned in 1988 when Brenda Epperson was cast. I felt she was chosen because she had a strong resemblance to Eileen Davidson. Brenda was also quite young at time (23).

I think Eileen's told a story about meeting Brenda (who was an aspiring actress and a waitress or something at a restaurant) and told her that she was going to be vacating the role and offered to help her land an audition for the part (she thought Brenda had a resemblance to her as well).

I did hear something about MTS, who is very close friends with Catherine Hickland, trying to get her cast as Ashley when Eileen first left but obviously Brenda ended up being the recast.

As for recasting Ashley after Brenda left, it probably would've been best to let the character rest until Eileen or Brenda were able to come back.

Yes.

(this was also around the time they retconned sex between Nina and Cole wasn't it? That annoyed me as it seemed to be some attempt to justify Ryan's eternal whorishness)

Grant Cramer returning as a love interest of Ashley's (didn't he have some secret?).

I always wondered if they had more plans for Dina as well.

    • Poor Philip. I appreciate how seriously his and Xander’s scenes were taken though. It felt like real drama and not like a big joke. You could actually feel Xander’s pain and anger. It adds another dynamic to the Kiriakis family storylines and I’m looking forward to the effects that this is going to have across the canvas. I can see them weaving Kate and Roman into this storyline as well. And it would be really nice if this somehow helped cause conflict for Stephanie/Alex too, especially because of what Alex did today. With any luck, Stephanie will be furious about it.  And I’m glad that Sarah has Maggie to confide in about her secret. I also liked seeing Steve and Shawn (and their matching jackets

) continue to be on the case. Kevin, revealing everything to them is another interesting turn in this storyline. Plus, it seems the writing has improved for Shawn as well.
    • TBF, I don't think we've seen her interact enough with the "have-nots" to know if she is or isn't. It's possible, but I don't think you can say that from her interactions with Eva and Silkpress.
    • You're right - though I did confuse his name with an actual actor who was on Dynasty.

    • "Might" is not "is". And I was talking about the specific case about her attitude to Eva.
    • But she can still be a priveliged elitist. She might have the same attitude to anyone from 'the wrong side of the tracks' whether they had an agenda or not. Nicole seems to be an outlier in her family. Her parents, kids and sister seem to think themselves above reproach.
    • Damian's clothes have definitely been a specific look -kinda reads 70's pimp to me . I guess it's a trend?? but it seems more suited to Holden. JR is 51  and I guess Damian is supposed to be a little younger but it looks a little odd on him in my book. But at least they're trying. The men's clothing has been bland/generic for years-either suits or basic casual stuff interchangeable  b/w them.
