I'm glad they are doing the opposite of Brooke, which as you note it was suppose to be humorous, which turned into pathetic. I hope they keep extending this story - the dynamics between the actors is always watchable. Plus it's the best bet to keep those characters on the frontburner. She got shot in the chest, got a heart transplant and like 20 heart attacks since then. If Brooke could get preggers at least 57 (I trying to guestimate Brooke's age - based on the fact she'd graduated college when show started)..... Honestly, if it was any other soap, which all have strong foundations with doctors, they could go down that road, but B&B just doesn't do medicine well at all.
