Jan Hooks .Designing Women...SNL has passed away

Jan and Phil Hartman as Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. I remember someone saying once in the SNL history book Live from New York (I want to say Victoria Jackson before she became completely cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs; I could be wrong, though), that Jan, being from the South, knew who Tammy Faye Bakker was before a lot of other people did, and had a DEAD ON impression of her. And then, of course, the scandal with Jessica Hahn happened, and she got to play her on SNL. This is just perfect.

She certainly was the bright spot of DW's odd series finale. Funny, but when I first heard that she and Julia Duffy were joining the cast, I thought they were recasts for Jean and Delta and Jan would be playing Suzanne.

I am heartbroken. That cast of SNL saved the show and while it was Dana Carvey and later Mike Myers who got all the press and fame, Jan Hooks was never anything less than brilliant. Her Diane Sawyer, her Tammy Faye, Kathie Lee..each one of them so perfect in ripping the target to shreds without really trying or being mean. Her Kathy Lee was just something to be seen because it so summed up the entire Kathy Lee persona in the worst possible way. And the Sweeney Sisters. It's really sad these skits are not on YT (maybe because of music rights, no idea) but she and Nora Dunn were perfect as this horrible shlocky cabaret act.:

The funniest woman on SNL, maybe even better than Gilfa Radner. :(

NBC doesn't let any SNL stuff stay on Youtube.

I loved the Sweeney Sisters. They were just hilarious and cheesy and they were never overused. I remember when Lorne Michaels produced the 1989 Emmys and the Sweeney Sisters went into the audience to chat and perform, and most of the people seemed freaked out or confused.

One that isn't seen as often is when Mary Tyler Moore appeared as their sister, who had left the group years earlier and been estranged from them ever since.

    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?
    • This is the coldest early June in my life. It's like it's January.

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.

Newsom is a craven opportunist, but his comments today were exactly how better people need to handle Trump.
